Josh im so in your head that i sublease some of the room in there cuz i dont know what to do with all the space...

Me and mango were talking the other day and we agreed that planking laser campy falcos is legit

Its like if a lion with a broken leg waited in the bushes for 8 minutes while the gazelle slowly grew tired of waiting for the rest of the herd and went to the bush alone to get its berries... only to realize it has just been mindgamed....

Loool at the lion metaphor

Well that ***** Twitch and Smith, among others. Not sure if either of them would want to do the car ride in the first place but still.

I'm sure most of us would jump on that opportunity though lol.

I might be able to sort something out with the owners cuz it's a vid tournament. Twitch and smith/others would just have to deal with having a huge X on there hand I guess.

I'll see. This place is called the browncoat pub/theatre/arcade. They WANT to host gaming events. Real ones. It's in a great spot and after the tournament there's all these great bars clubs and food places around it. It'd be the best tournament ever.

If they wanna host legit events they'd help get the word out then? Numbers=more hype and more regulars. I can totally get behind that idea assuming they're willing to help spread the word(and hopefully you would be as well).

I'm down for the tourney either way if enough regulars decide to go and the date is convenient.

Real talk about location stuff:

Having a tournament in Wilmington doesn't really make any sense. It makes no sense to have most the state (not that anybody west of Raleigh would likely come) drive multiple hours to a tournament when there are only a handful of people that live there.

Think about it like this: any of the other cities that host tourneys

a) could, if they pooled together, have a tournament with just people in that area that would be enough for a small bracket. A good location is like a safety net that ensures attendance.

b) are somewhere between multiple other cities. Raleigh area is a central point for state wide tourneys, Charlotte works well for Regionals because it's closer for GA/ATL South. Wilmington is literally the farthest eastern/southern part of the state, that is close to no other competitive Melee scenes and has no actual scene on its own.

I'm not saying that you wouldn't be a good host or don't have a good venue. Wilmington is just not a practical location to have a tournament in a time where everybody is too broke to even drive to stuff an hour away; especially due to the fact that there is NO guarantee of a decent turn out.

We need hosts and Slasher wants to host.....

If he can get more people than usual since he said the venue wants legit tourneys then it may be worth our while to go hype it up so that it would get bigger turnouts than what our "regionals" have been getting lately.

Rutherfordton was a terrible location but the active community for Melee was a lot larger when Munkaids were successful. Also, the skill gap between the active players and the new players was not quite as huge so tournaments were more scrub friendly (for lack of a better term).

Btw, the last G6 I went to had more people at it than the last Munkaid I went to years ago.

It doesn't matter how eager or good a host Bryan might be; unless he is going to overpromote his event (I honestly don't think this will help since it'd be his first tourney and he's not SUPER well known) or have a sizeable add in to the pot (to draw in state and OOS attendance), his sheer distance from everyone else would have a dramatic impact on attendance.

We can waste our time hyping an event in super east NC that will get as much attendance as a Tuesday night Smashfest at my house or we can promote a venue in a location with potential. Your call.

It was a long drive but people didn't care because they were competitive and had something to prove. You wanna compete? You got something to prove? You should go to a tournament someone is hosting. It's really that simple. We can't be picky because there aren't many Melee tournaments in NC, and unless you're trying to do something about it I don't really see a problem with him trying to do so. If you don't want to go because it's far then okay, but that's a shame. If we carpool it'll be fun and gas won't be a big deal either.

If you supported it then it would really help get a good enough turnout to be satisfactory at the least(again assuming Bryan and the venue people actually hype it).

We need hype not picking and choosing.

Kevin, you constantly overlook the cost aspect because tournaments do not cost you money because you win. Money does not appear in your wallet from pure competitive want. Only 3 people get paid and only 1 (maybe 2) make enough to cover the gas it costs to get there.

I've been running tournaments a long time. I was just sharing my knowledge on picking venues/locations. I think trying to host in Wilmington is a waste of time when you consider the cost and the actual current interest of tourney attendance. I wish everyone would not snap at me every time I express an opinion.

EDIT: Hype not picking and choosing? What the hell are you even talking about? You have to PICK a good venue so that it can be hype, it doesn't work nearly as well the other way around. I don't know why you talk as if you don't know how this works.

People made it work before in worse locations. Just gotta be dedicated man. Shame you don't agree.

Then we should be coming with the intent of winning. Tournaments are a gamble. You're putting in money in the hopes that you will be able to make it back or at best that the amount you spent was worth the amount you learned and improved at the tournament in the hopes that next time you can win. We should all be trying to improve to the point that we actually have a shot to make it in the money and let our drive of not wanting to lose money fuel our competitive nature.

Also, I don't think kevin was snapping at you. He was just giving an alternative to what you said (giving his opinion also). A good venue is very important. But right now we don't have anything happening. I think a bad venue is better than no venue whether anyone shows up or not. And aside from regionals, I doubt kevin makes his money back with how far he has travels.

I'll play you next time i'm home bryan. idk when that may be though.

as for a tournament, i really think you'd have to build a local scene for it to be something to travel to. for the kind of event you're looking for (smash + bar hopping) we would need some sort of housing. as fun as it all sounds, hotels in/near wilmington are...not particularly cheap, so really, it'd have to be something pretty special to bring in the true interest. It would need to be a true overall event, rather than just a saturday morning with the bros.
