Which members of the smash community are the most respectable people, and why? I just thought there should be a thread giving credit where credit is due for the people who are the most helpful, cheerful, respectful, or best role models that other smashers can strive to be like.

My list would have to include:
1. Armada: Armada was always respectful towards everyone, and very professional about how he treated this game. He always turned in early for tournaments, played everyone who wanted to play him in friendlies (and didn't sandbag), he hid his jigglypuff counter strategy from everyone for 6 months, and he hosts tournaments for his community and attempts to weed out attitudes that tend to poison a community rather than foster it. His parting with smash is one of the biggest blows melee has ever seen. If we wanted to showcase a professional player in smash history, Armada would be the number 1 pick without question.

2. Dr. Peepee: Dr. Peepee is a strong contender for top smasher now that Armada has retired, and his qualities are the most similar to Armada's in the elite 4. He takes smash the most seriously, gives great advice on the boards and in person, and is another person who really shows how far hard work and talent combined can take you in terms of skill. Truly an inspiring player, which is why I'll be rooting for Peepee for the EVO title.

3. Axe/Shroomed: I love these guys because they're so happy! You'll find them always smiling and trying their best, respecting every member of the community, refraining from the smack talk (except to close friends, of course), and of course, representing characters that no one else knew could be viable before they invented them.
There are many many more players worth mentioning, but this is just to start us off.

Anyone else have thoughts on players they respect? They don't have to be top players like the ones I've listed. They could be great TOs that foster community growth(Juggleguy and Sheridan), great people that fund others to go to Nationals (Redact), or great inspirers that make you want to learn a character (PewpewU). Post up!

I agree with Armada at #1, but I don't understand why him hiding the fact he practiced YL to counter Hbox makes him more respectable.

HBox and not just because he plays Puff :awesome:. Dude's taken so much **** from people and doesn't complain. He gets so into the game and his matches #Sadbox but you won't hear him being pissed over his losses. He seems to dress up more then other people and his FB post/attitude towards the power outage at Zenith was amazing. Seriously, props for the Zenith thing.

Why? He's my age and put everyone to shame in Project M at Zenith 2013.
Nuff said.
Change the future of Smash Wizzrobe!

Also, I do agree with Armada being a very respectable player, as well as Kirbykaze, with his humorous and helpful comments. Respect that Canadian.

I've heard that some people consider Mew2king arrogant, but it didn't seem like that in an interview of him, and when he was on camera with Mango, he seemed like just a normal guy. I think he just takes Smash very seriously, and I respect him for contributing vast amounts of knowledge to the game. So respect to The Robot as well!

That man has so much love for melee it's ridiculous (Praying and then falling to his knees during M2k v PP at Apex 2013), and for sticking to his guns through all the dumb hate with Puff.

Also Armada, Axe, and PP

I dont think this thread is really necessary. I find smashers to be some of the more respectable people I know.

Shoutouts to Juggleguy, btw

As someone who only knows the community through the livestreams I've seen after Apex 2013, I'm honestly really impressed with Hungrybox. He's dogged a lot for his playstyle, but he always takes it in stride, and is very humble about his success.

Although not quite to the point of the thread, I feel like Arizona as a region fosters one of the strongest scenes despite the relatively small amount of players because of this idea of respect. I think the reason they are so strong is because not only do they have high level players, but those players actively help the newbies in a way that makes them love the game and strive to teach them and to help them improve. Simply being around Axe makes you want to play Melee because he is always so happy to play new people no matter their skill level. It's contagious. Anyone who went to KOC2 knows how AZ represents their region and they always cheer the loudest and watch their fellow player's matches. I feel like AZ as a community shows this idea and it's no surprise how many good smashers are from there.

I think it demonstrates that he respected HBox's competitive edge in the Peach vs Puff matchup to the point where he was willing to conceptualize, train, and execute the perfect counter character to ensure himself success. To my knowledge, nobody's ever really done that in this game... at least not to the degree where they had an entire continent in on top secret anti-player technology and not only did nobody blab but most of them actually supported it.

Personally I find that badass. There is no way in hell the Pound 5 unveiling of Armada's infamous Link Enfant would have been nearly as epic, mindblowing, hype, or whatever else you want to call it if the majority of the people had an idea of what was going to happen.

Actually it was basically only Swedes that knew about it. Many did not really believed in my strategy at first but after a few games I could see on their faces that they were convinced that this was something that had to happend. People started to talk about how it would look and how people/Hbox would react. Everyone find it so funny so because of that + showing me respect no one said anything to make sure it would be a surprise.

But except from the Swedes a few peple from Holland and Strawhat knew it too. Me/Strawhat did talk about playing the MU to give me some more pratice but in the end I decided to not play those matches in case anyone would have seen them (and someone probably would have seen it). I also thought the practice Hack/Android + others gave me would be enough so I did not wanted to risk it.

But yeah the difference in hype between Pound V and Apex 2012 is kinda huge ;)

Why's that? You could be Canadian too.

Edit: If I had to name one smasher in my constant entourage that i respect the most, it would have to be PKM. Dependable, reliable, master troll and he plays all characters. Chester is also along those lines.

Reliability is in short supply these days, ****** too selfish.

But if I choose the whole world.. it's pretty hard.. i have a lot of smashers I respect with all my heart.

Definitely PP as #1

Very open, conducts himself well, is helpful on the boards, never see him talk serious **** about anyone, and I've never EVER seen him make serious johns. That puts him above almost everyone by itself honestly. Just compare him to his contemporaries: M.go is the johning king, Hbox will john about stuff occasionally from what I've seen, listen to Armada talk about peach vs fox/puff for 2 minutes LOL, and I've never seen M2K not john

armada was amazingly nice too tho now that I think about it, but he does engage in some mini flame wars w/mango (though I personally think it's great on both ends LOL) the fact that he is incredibly professional is cool too.

hbox seems like a class act, I haven't seen many guys lose after getting swagged on than turned around & been that players most vocal supporter in their next match (mango LF @ G2), but he did make some funny ass jokes @ some random brawl kids expense when I met him.

other than that 90% of smashers I've met are generally respectful, have great senses of humour & are generally awesome to be around

Well a lot of those times it is discussion about MUs where I disagree with some players. Before I even came over to America it was almost a "fact" that Peach was not even good enough to win world class tournaments to begin with. Just because I happend to make some good results it doesn't mean I will agree with those opinions that people comes up with now. Because I have said many times before people go to much on results overall.

I still think Peach has a losing MU vs Fox and Puff (and a very bad one vs Puff) but yeah I never tried to be rude or using johns.
And yeah playing chars that is "worse" probably make it sound like "johning" more but all chars are not like spacies dude :p

came here to say Hbox and then realized that my reasoning applies to PP as well. in general, here's why these are my two favorite smashers:

no johns
great interviews
unique playstyles
show emotion at tourneys
RESPECTFUL TO OTHER PLAYERS (no surprise that this is part of what makes them respected by other players!)

keep it up you two, ily

I laugh when people say Hbox is classy, when he gave MW legend Mundungu a concussion bc he's a moron and the story I heard about him being stranded and tried to hustle money from smasher that shall not be named over pizza....

The pizza story was kinda from one person to another, but I heard about the Mundungu concussion from him.

A lot of people are only able to see the surface unless they had multiple personal experiences with the same guy. Seems like this is rare in this thread, I mean actually knowing the true colors of someone. Certain smashers are actors as well while being in a group of people or while being interviewed, be careful how you judge.. there's actually a small number of true respectful smashers.
