Assuming that Brawl will be brought back next year, how will seeding work for the brackets? Will this season's points be used in addition to next season's accumulated points? Will it just be this season's accumulation counting toward the first event of next season? I'm trying to find out if there's an incentive to accumulating points even if someone doesn't have pro status toward the end of this season.

all the points added up will determine next years seeds for the first event only depending if the game comes back ^_^ and once the first event ends all 2010 points will expire and will mean nothing and 2011 points will take over.

thats how they do halo and I believe smash would be the same, theres a slot for expired points when you view your seed for the current event so yah, pretty sure thats how it is.

Deimos will be able to verify.

I thought they didn't expire and it just went 2011 point > 2010 points > online points or something like that.

So there are two problems here...

  1. There have been 0 announcements regarding which games will be, and will not be on the 2011 Pro Circuit besides Halo Reach. So this is purely speculative.
  2. The best we can go off of, is what is done with games such as Halo 3, which has been on the circuit for several years

Halo 3 Pro Circuit Rolling Rank Points, Halo 3 4v4 Combine Rank Points, Halo 3 Online Qualifier Rank Points, and Halo 3 Expired Pro Circuit Rank Points.

As you can see, Pro Circuit Rank Points do expire; however they are still used in seeding, behind the current years Rank Points. So basically, every point earned in 2010 (Online Qualifiers, Combines, and Pro Circuit Rank Points) count more than any point earned in previous years.

Again, this is purely speculative. Additionally, the seeding for SSBB, if brought back for 2011, could be different than Halo 3s.

So, if SSBB is used again, lets say there is a tie in the 3rd event between let's say Lee Martin and Tyrant

Lee Martin, let's say, had 4500 points after all 5 2010 events, and Tyrant had 4250. Lee Martin will be seeded ahead of Tyrant that event because he has more points in 2010?

That's a good enough answer and explains it pretty well, Deimos. Thanks.

Also, in your expert opinion, what would be the absolute best way to encourage MLG to bring Brawl back next year? The community really loves the whole MLG experience and it would be a shame to lose it again.

Using the above seeding procedure, perhaps. However, it may depend which events they earned their points at, etc. That is a very specific question, and without exact rules that cover that, I can't really answer it yes or no. If SSBB is back for 2011, ask that question again.

Selling out DC and Dallas will definitely be pluses. :)

The hotel should be announced soonish. Keep checking here: http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/dallas/event-information

As for the controllers, the rules state the following:
when will the pro rankings be updated?
The Player Standings should be updated soon. When updated, they can be found here: http://www.mlgpro.com/2010/SuperSmashBrosBrawl/LiveCompetition/PlayerStandings

You cannot use the classic controller. Must use GC controller.
Technically wrong. You can mod a CC/CCPro into a wired controller. It's a lot of work to do properly, though. There's nothing in the rules saying you can't, and when I asked I didn't get told no, so I'd assume it's fine.

Has the "more buttons than the first party Gamecube controller" part always been there? I don't remember reading that before.

When people play friendlies they tend to put it on in order to quit out of the match in case a tourney match is called.

It's not something people tend to check before starting a tourney match anyways, so things like this can happen.

@BLM its supposed to be turned to off. if its on and they play t hough in tournament, that would mean they both agree to it (otherwise i could just pause if im getting 3 stocked vs big lou and have a do over)

Really Fatal?

That is lame, I thought it was cumulative forever :(
That would be really dumb if points lasted forever.. It'd be impossible for a new player to avoid M2K first round. (Which is already pretty hard)

It would also make it near impossible for an up-and-coming player to make pro status.

The rules I posted were for Raleigh. So once the rules are released for DC, they may be different as rules tend to change from event to event in some shape or form.

Columbus Rules: http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/Columbus/super-smash-bros-brawl-1v1/rules-settings
Orlando Rules: http://pro-circuit.mlgpro.com/pro-circuit/2010/orlando/super-smash-bros-brawl-1v1/rules-settings

Correct. Pause should be turned off. But sometimes players will mess with the settings. Thus if pause is turned on, and a player pauses a game, the rule will come into effect.

Just to be clear, so long as the ZL button is non-functional, my mod to make a GCC board and place it in the CCPro (I wish it was as simple as it sounds to do) is perfectly fine, correct?

Completely serious. Lol. ASCII keyboard controllers have an amazing feel to them. While the appearance is misleading and questionable, it's a favorable controller. The keys themselves don't do anything to affect gameplay, they're intended for games on the Gamecube that you can play online or something. They don't provide any additional options to me-- Except for being pretty good at holding sodas for me to sip on while I'm playing.

The only reason I ask is because yeah, it's different, and I haven't really read anything about controller restrictions, other than controllers with modifications or benefits that the regular Gamecube Controllers don't have are banned.

Did you miss the part with "more buttons than a First Party GameCube controller"?

I'm pretty sure a keyboard has more. Then again, I've never been any good with counting.

The detail you mentioned wasn't listed on the SSBB Rules and Settings page. The ASCII Keyboard Controller posted above is also infact, a first party product. You can find this indication by examining the registered trademark area on the upper left hand corner of the box, in the sixth image.

Though, if you did infact read that rule on an official page, please direct me to that web area, so that I do not make the conclusion that playing at MLG with this controller is not prohibited.

I see it on the previous page, but it's a quote without an original source shortcut on it, and the rule list on the rules thread doesn't state that detail anywhere in the original post.

Then again, keys aren't buttons and could be purely cosmetic if they don't do anything.

I've asked about the different controllers, and should have a response soon.

However, can you take the discussion out of this thread? I'd like to keep this just a Question/Answer thread so it is easy to read. Thanks :)

I just bought my players pass for DC, and went to the Team Builder and it says:

"Registration is closed! Email the commissioner if you need to make any changes.

If you are registered for an upcoming event, go to the Team Viewer."
