I'm getting your point. Normally good things get copied a lot. I know in music (mainly jazz) people steal a lot of licks and lines and make tiny changes to make it their own. I guess that concept is used in game making. It's not that easy to make something completely new with everything that's been done. If anything in games they should bring back, it's making them more of a challenge. I have played Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy. In Super Mario Galaxy they basically lead you to where the star is. In Super Mario 64, you had to actually look around. I give Super Mario Galaxy 2 props for doing that with the green stars. Some of them you really had to look for to get or do some well timed jumps.Well, don't get me wrong, I don't mean that successful series should necessarily make drastic, unnecessary changes just for the sake of change. What I mean is that a lot of games all follow the same general formulas and gameplay elements (If any of you watch Zero Punctuation, you'll have heard the phrases "Chest High Walls" and "Like God of War but" about 200000 times, and he has a point.).
Now obviously a FPS game is an FPS, and a fighting game is a fighting game, etc., but there can still be innovations, or even failing that, something that sets it apart as more than just another FPS.
Take the Halo series for example. While it had been done before to some extent, when the first Halo came out, it revolutionized several aspects of FPS games, such as vehicle usage (especially in multiplayer), limited number of weapons you can carry at once, regenerating health (Shown as shields in that game) and melee attacks. For a while after it came out, every game was pretty much copying it's example. Off the top of my head, there was a James Bond game using these mechanics in a blatant rip-off way, Timesplitters Future Perfect sacrificed some of the elements that had made TS2 so much fun in order to become a little more like the Halo franchise, I believe there was a MoH gamme doing something similar, but I can't recall precisely which.
Another good example, again in the FPS genre, is Gears of War. Now I haven't played this series much, so I may be wrong about this, but I believe that game pretty much revolutionized the 'chest high wall' cover combat that is so prevalent in 3rd person shooters today.
Team Fortress 2 also influenced the Battlefield Heroes game (which I'm not sure if it ever came out, or if it ever will?) to the point of near plagiarism.
It's kind of sad that every time someone has a good idea (and enough financial backing to make it a big thing. Poor Geist was such a good idea, and it will never see the light of online play. Oh why weren't you released on Xbox instead...) it gets copied into every game in existence.
Sorry, I'm kind of falling into a rant here, so I'll stop before I write out 7 pages, miss my bus, and get stranded downtown XD
LMAO!yo....sup a2?![]()
I can second this...I miss difficult games.I'm getting your point. Normally good things get copied a lot. Awesome, I hope you enjoy it!That would explain why I like DBZ Budokai lol. I do really enjoy Megaman games so I might give it a try. Gotta find a cube copy of it or get a PS2 copy and play it during the summer.
I haven't beat the whole game yet. I'm stuck on one stage were i have to fightCave Story was fun. You should play Spelunky or I Wanna Be The Guy, too.
LOL!yo....sup a2?![]()
When did Sentinel get a health nerf? Also just from the few random Hulk's online, none of them seemed amazing. Yeah he has a very good damage output per hit but his combo potential doesn't seem that great. The Gamma Rush thing is good. Also Zero can counter random projectile supers with Genmu Zero (so says the MvC3 game guide I read at gamestop lol)And I like Hulk more than Sentinel especially with the health nerf, he has more survivability than Sentinel now, and can punish random projectile supers your opponent throws out with Gamma Crush, and he has one of the highest damage outputs in the game! (5-600k off of an armored normal light, with no meter) He can also make an excellent battery and you can just super-armor through people who try to press buttons. It's pretty fun.
Put Doom in there with hidden missiles, then just do jumping Light QCF with deadpool. It is the most annoying thing to get around, and probably even worse online.Ryu, Deadpool & [Insert character here] I'm 2good @ the game already. *Smiles*
Oh, btw. Watch mortal kombat legacy.
Lol, it was an Xmas present.cant buy a wii but, this guy gets a ipad?! .-.
Sentinel got a health nerf like a month ago. Went from 1.4 mil to 900k health. His combo potential is fantastic if you're not doing a generic magic series into super. I don't know if you read my "600k without a super", but that's like a fairly long, meter building, combo that you could tack a super on and it's an easy 800k, moreso with a DHC. Let's not forget about the pseudo-invincible assist of his. He's a very solid addition to any team that has trouble with rushdown for sure. He's not on my main team anymore, but I still really like playing him. And Matador, he has Super Armor on every move, just a ****-ton on standing H.When did Sentinel get a health nerf? If it was about a month ago then I probably never played with him having 1.4 mil. 1.4 mil with sentinel sounds super broken though. Maybe Hulk is good. I just haven't seen a good one.Sentinel got a health nerf like a month ago. Went from 1.4 mil to 900k health. His combo potential is fantastic if you're not doing a generic magic series into super. Also I need to learn Doom for my Zero/Deadpool/Doom team.
Add me on XBL and I'll play you anytime you're on if you invite me.If anybody wants to play, I have MvC3 on the 360. My team's Haggar/Doom/Dante.
I have no idea how to use Dante, I just use him for CapCom assist xD
And no, this is not me asking how to use Dante, don't really have a care for it >.>
This guy gained some respect from me.oh btw to the DBZ budokai talk earlier (late as **** but) Teen gohan da bess.
Really? Thanks, that's good to know. I've only ever been ****ed over by the standing H super armor, so I just figured that was the case. And Matador, he has Super Armor on every move, just a ****-ton on standing H.
It is and he does. Sentinel too with jumping C and D. I'm pretty sure anyway.Really? Thanks, that's good to know. I've only ever been ****ed over by the standing H super armor, so I just figured that was the case.
He doesn't have any on aerials though right? That's not possible is it?
