I think Project M is better for people who don't play Melee to be honest, though then again, you probably have to be a Melee Fox/Falco user to actually play the respective characters in Project M.

If you actually play Melee competitively, this game is likely to mess you up pretty significantly, even if several skills do transfer over.

On the other hand, for people who haven't yet gotten into Melee seriously, they should be able to appreciate a more balanced cast under a similar engine. But yeah, this doesn't truly live up to what Melee actually is.

I personally think I'm good at transferring from different versions of Smash, but the way Project M tries to be so close to Melee but is so very subtly different is REALLY annoying from an execution standpoint. From talking to my friends who also play Melee, I get that they feel similarly about the issue.

What would be reeealy awesome is if Melee had an unofficial competitive balance patch akin to what Balanced Brawl did for Brawl...oh well.

I'm generally a jerk to everyone on the internet though by virtue of being blunt and to the point, so usually my insults are never intended to be personal.

My Pool:

Pool 17

Will
Boss
Inferno
Spite
Kiraflax (he cannot attend...did anyone buy his pass?)

Luckily kiraflax won't be there so that's one less guy to worry about. Does anybody know who spite is and who he uses?

Omg, I get Smurf and Logic in my pool. Inferno you lucky person. I'd rather battle a weegee and a dk anyday then freakin Oli and Metagay. And I got some guy named Sphere.

Keep it cool against Olimar. It's one of Mario's better matchups and actually winnable. You just want to be patient against Olimar and try to acquire a lead against him that you can hold.

But it's Will and Boss, lol.
But I know the DK MU so well and yea, Boss is a beast. Though since I only have four people in my pools the top 3 move on so I guess this is a good thing cuz then I just need to win one set.

@A2Z: Oli is one of my worst MUs >.< I've battled Logic before and his weakness is his slow reaction times but his predicting skills are ridiculous. If I can bait and be unpredicatable though and get those gimps then I may have a chance.

Will and Boss are both really amazing. According to what I've heard, Spite plays Mario/MK. There are 3 Mario's and a DK in my pool. I hope the Mario ditto's I've had with Pierce pays off. And Boss better go Mario on me.

@2fast - As long as you beat Sphere, you should move on. Olimar and MK are gay I know.

I'm pretty legit at the Oli MU now, I make very few mistakes (Which vs Oli costs me quite a bit(And I'm generally trying to play as safe as possible(But Oli seems to be able to approach easily when I'm camping(And one more of these because parentheses are cool)))), but the main Oli in my area knows me too well to lose to me :p

He also plays Wario. I hate Wario =(

Wario is a fun and winnable matchup for Mario. You just have to legitimately outplay him when it comes to kills or take him to Brinstar (which he will never refuse unless he knows the matchup) to get the advantage on him. Wario is sorta the opposite of the majority of Mario's matchups in that dealing damage to him generally isn't hard, while landing kills on him can be tricky.

Spite is NC Metagay IIRC. Unless it's a totally different Spite, lol.

@Inferno: Be prepared for anything (not just what you think; you don't know what Boss's going to do
****, Boss doesn't even know what Boss's gonna do...
). Can't wait to see you there bro!

Can't wait to play my pool (ESAM, Radios & Slikvik) which IMO is challenging! It's going to be so fun regardless of the outcome & I'm pumped!

Does anyone have any extra advice (suggestions)? Greatly appreciate all the help I can get.

So Project: M is pretty cool.

Is it me or is Mario Tornado actually worth using for offensive purposes?

Mario Tornado (MT) is useful for offensive purposes in brawl. You have to know when to mid air jump (at low percents (doesn't mean 0%) for the cast)>anything (most likely Up Air (u-air) which takes time to grasp).

Safe MT uses:
1. Safe MT (Short Hop (SH) or Full Hop (FH) can be used; don't limit yourself)>d-air (either retreat away (if opponent(s) shield & you spaced the move) or retreat past (if you miss spaced the move)>anything)
2. Reckless MT (SH or FH>d-air>automatically attempt to combo (mid air jump>anything) which is completely reckless)

Omari, I'm pretty sure he's talking bout Project M, not Brawl.

Anywho Mystic, I haven't played much Project M, minus like the 3 hours I played the other day with Juusichi and a few others, but basing off Melee, and my opinion, any time you could use Mario Tornado, Mario's drill kick would benefit you a whole lot more. Also pro tip, Mario's dair is his highest priority move in Melee.

Anywho, just got MvC3.. don't really like it thus far =/

No kidding. He reads people way too well. In my experience, you have a chance the 1st game, then he has you figured out and knows what you're going to do before you know what you're going to do.

I cannot comprehend this statement. The game is so much fun. Actually, that's an understatement. I'm probably not going to be spending too much time on smash for the next few weeks, despite having a tournament next weekend XD

I have MvC3 myself. I kinda like it, but it's definitely not a single-player game. It's so damn dry on that department, which surprises me. Online matches are a blast though.

As for P:M Mario, I just get the feeling that it seems like Mario Tornado is able to be used as something along the lines of Mach Tornado in Brawl. It seems to have more... priority than usual.

I played MvC3 with a friend. First of all, it's much easier than MvC2 (which means to beat my friend I have to actually learn the game). During Spring break, I'm gonna buy the game if my brothers haven't already and train. I plan for my team as of now to be Felecia/Zero/Phoenix. Might switch out Phoenix for Deadpool until I get good because Phoenix is so fragile.

No it's not. The only REAL use for Mario Tornado offensively is for platform pressure.

HOWEVER the move is at least safe on hit from what I can tell.

Feel like repping Arthur, Iron Man, Ryu in MvC3 anyhow. Now I'm just waiting to mooch off my friend for playing the game...

Melee's a party game. Nobody complains that it's too easy. Except maybe Mango. =)

MvC3 should be categorized as a party game. It's too easy.
Compared to MvC2 its child's play. First thing I noticed about this game is how much easier it is. It's a lot like TvC imo. No punch or kicks; just light, medium and heavy hit. One button to pop you up. Funny thing is my friend said "Oh TvC is the simplest fighter." Funny how MvC3 is pretty similar.

Melee is possibly the most technical game (at least using Fox or Falco is)

Hey guys, it looks like I have a Yoshi in my pool for Pound. It's a very frustrating MU for Lucas (freaking air release CG...). How does Mario fare in it?

Yoshi is probably my best MU since my friend mains yoshi and I brawl him all the time. Marios fireballs are a pain for yoshi since his shield is so slow but his b-air goes threw so expect a b-air or he may hop high into the air to avoid them. Our b-air goes threw his b-air or we can just shield all of b-air and grab. Jab cancels also **** since his shield is so slow so jab-jab -> d-smash/f-tilt is even easier to land. Overall if you know what your doing and know the MU then yoshi is pretty easy. If you don't then he can actually pretty tough for the red plumber. Watch out for pivot grabs especially. He'll probably try to get you in your landing lag with a pivot grab or if you try to approach him.

Melee, even playing as Fox or Falco, pales to Street Fighter 4 my friend. Thought Fox or Falco were technical in Melee? Every character in the entire series of SF4...except maybe Zangief and T.Hawk...is significantly more technical than Fox or Falco from Melee.

Mario has the advantage. Never approach him without a fireball behind you, given that fireballs > Yoshi's pivot grab anti-approach game. Always AutoJab his spotdodge (Jab cancel after autojabbing if you can hit confirm it). Your aerials generally beat his in direct exchanges. Save U-smash to 130 against him. Save D-smash to 150. Don't get baited by his F-smash, and know the spacing of your own F-smash.
