hey guys, just came back of a 16-man berlin/brandenburg tourney
it's official i am the second best brawler in berlin muhahahaha
mario ***** them all (not really these matches where pretty close xD)
lost in grand finals 1/3 against .exe's snake though...:/

melee scene was bigger, there were like 32 people i think and i got 17 xDD
i suck at melee, but on that day i was surprisingly good until i met luma's sheik....never got ***** so badly xD
but he is in the top 3 of the european melee powerrankings, maybe some of you guys have already heard of him^^
however i think i could teach them all a lesson, how good mario can be^^ hah, i am so proud of me xDD

Just got ***** at VGBC. I'm the worst Mario ever, it's official.
Sorry, I STILL have that title

My pool was Logic, Fonz, Judo, BMX, Mr. Eric.
Ouch. Logic, Fonz and BMX... that's nasty.

Losing shouldn't be seen in such a negative light, especially if you learn from it. The feeling is pretty sucky, I'll whole-heartedly agree with that...but if you're learning from your mistakes and trying something different every tourney, we'll eventually reach where Mario's capable of.

A positive attitude goes a long way.
This.

I tend to learn more from losing than I do winning, so even if I lose, I'm not disappointed, so long as I know what I did wrong and can work to fix it. If I get replays, that makes it even easier to do.

Hmmm... I remember hearing Luma's name somewhere, but I don't follow Melee, so I might be mistaken.

Mario the Italian plumber is fixing up Europe for us. Nice.
i am pretty sure that the grandfinals were recorded^^
i'll talk to akuma whether i can get the replays to upload them :D

thanks guys^^

i was so happy, i started jumping around after i know that i reached the grandfinals^^
but snake...man i hate fighting good snakes, its just like you are always running in hitboxes of fairs.nades,mines,c4's,grabes and in the end the uptilt^^

luma is well known here in europe, dunno whether he has ever participate in an american tourney^^

guuys! i wanna go to apex 2, i wanna meet marios!!
i feel so lonely here in europe since the only one who seems to be a good mario is a guy in spain!!

Hahaha, nice dude ;).

So, if anyone has followed the Tier List thread for the last bit they were discussing Mario but pretty much Hero, and Matador's post caught my attention...

We need to start trying out new things, that's why our metagame may be at a standstill... and Hero's been pushing the format for match-up's which very few too none or trying out.

I think we need to discuss all of his 'tricks' he has and potential uses they have, try figuring out new stuff.

Even something you find 'useless' could be looked into deeper.

doople walking into kill moves...SH fireball> dopplewalk(mindgames!!) > fsmash?

i also think alot of marios just are not implementing marios ground game enough it's very vital vs some matches like diddy/falco/and snake....

does anyone know if they posted a results page for the indy tourny? cant find one
There isn't one yet, I think the VGbootcamp guys are still driving back to MD so that may be why.

Most of the results are being posted in the original thread for the tourney. You can try there.

i know this is already known but i want to remind all marios on this strange AT:
after mario has done his ftilt he can slide backwards while doing any other action like dsmash, spotdodge etc.
i think this AT can be a VERY useful tool for spacing
it happens to me very often but i don't know how to use it consistensly(bet i wrote this word wrong xD)
does any1 know how this works, cuz it seems to me as if this is very helpful to improve marios ground game and to decrease the chance to get shieldgrabbed

Yeah on certain frames when you interrupt Mario's F-tilt animation as he's pulling his foot backwards, he does slide backwards.

I don't think it's very useful honestly especially since I find it very difficult to do consistently, but F-tilt -> Jab slide -> reverse F-smash looks sexy.

Why dont we look into cape teleport? LOL

I know the timing is strict, but it can be the move that brings mario from low tier to top tier... No joke...

Something like... cape teleport?

Seriously... why haven't we worked on this more?
For starters, do we KNOW it can be done on all characters? So far I've only seen it on a couple myself (Wish I had someone to practice that tech with.).

Also, JUDGE, I was thinking of Irios.
Actually wait... now that I actually looked up his name... is he french? I just know he was at BI9, but I thought I'd seen his name in American results.

Right now anyone with ASL (Auto-Snap-Ledgegrab) can be affected by Cape Teleport. It's been proven to work on...

DK
Ice Climbers
Mario
Marth
Wolf

As I personally done this to them, but once in a blue moon. It could work on all recoveries, but someone will have to test it. I'd bet it works on Fox and Falco though.

I don't understand, does the Cape Teleport actually give you a frame advantage?

Yeah, they're stuck on the ledge long enough to legitimately run off the stage bair them, but it doesn't stagespike at earlier %.

I think it'd be better to run offstage after you pull it off...then upB back onstage since upB stagespikes at all percentages.

...I've got the timing for Marth down kinda well...but the spacing is crazy strict.

Yes.

Also, I heard some talk about Judo earlier (on this thread). He's a pretty good player, last time I played him I was in one of my "Omgmymariosuckslololusemk" phases so unfortunately I never got to play his shiek with my Mario, but he barely beat my MK and he says he was lucky. (I think he was just better than my MK I never practiced but used that day for the lulz)

Since we're on the subject of improving Mario's metagame (even the tiniest of tricks), I find that Uair is a useful edgegaurd and a good mix up. Reverse Uair is very good on opponets who recover high and regular uair on opponets who recover low. Gives us more options for edgeguarding. Anyone else use uair for edgeguards?

Rant on Cape Teleport now.

You guys know if the opponent goes directly for the sweetspot of the ledge and doesn't put their hurtbox above the ledge then it's impossible to cape teleport them, right?

I did some frame testing on it a while back, it's not really worth looking into, I don't even think the "Stun" part of it even exists, because when I've pulled this off in a match my friend was able to get off just as easily as any other ledge, if they would attempt to Jump off of the "ledge" that they're holding onto, they would hover in the same spot for a second, so I guess it could seem like they're stunned, but they can easily hold back to get off... that's just my theory, though.

In my opinion, it's not really worth looking into, there's also the fact that the opponent can avoid it by recovering where their hurtboxes do not extend above the stage, and the time window is just too small, you only have a few frames where you'll be able to pull it off, and then you'd have to perfectly calculate exactly how fast they would get to the ledge in your head.

It just doesn't seem possible to pull off consistantly.

EDIT: Then again, it's also **** sexy.

Another tiny thing that should be brought up. Any one noticed that when your opponet gets hit by the lava on brinstar, you can cape **** them? Did it a few times. Im going to CP brinstar more lol.

OMG, that's awesome! Why have we not thought of this sooner?

I KNOW LOL.

I was playing my sister's Luigi on brinstar and the idea popped up in my head. Next thing you know, I cape **** her 3 times.

Btw it works best around 70% and up.

We have thought of it sooner, actually I think this came up afew days after we discovered cape ****** even existed (before you two were around) so I wouldn't expect you guys to know about it.

You can cape **** off of anything that sends somebody vertically, so the lava on Norfair actually works better because you can combo into it easier (via throws). However, I generally avoid those two stages because in my opinion the small chance that you're going to be able to pull off the cape **** isn't worth the fact that I'd be playing on my least favorite stages of all time.

EDIT: At least I think it's easier on Norfair, I don't know because I never play on that stage, lol.

But it can easily be avoided by DI the opposite way of Mario. I've Caped a DK before past 100%, he went fairly higher, but didn't kill him.

Matador says you can cape **** on any direction of knock back >_>

Edit: Well Matt, I wouldnt think anyone would DI it because its like a "WTF" moment. Still good to know I guess

Oh, I meant to say that the Cape **** only amplifies vertical momentum, I guess you could still use the cape **** on something that sends somebody horizontally but the effect is... not nearly as good.
