lmao! Sadly enough, I shop at West 49 and wind up spending $40 on a t-shirt anyway :p.

Anyway, thanks for making this thread. It's been great.
No problem, I'm glad I did it. West 49? Never heard of it ...*google* Ooo, neat. I see a lot of DC and Hurley. I used to wear that stuff when I skated back in the day. Way back in the day.

Here goes...

I'm 19 and have only just come out to myself a few months gone; that's after my... erhem... has been telling me I'm gay for some six years. I went on for a good portion of my life knowing I was this way, but always told myself otherwise (I've even had girlfriends - none successful, of course). In my head, it was always just so "wrong" - I've strived my entire life to be as "normal" as possible (I'm absolutely terrible for that), and here was this part of me that the majority of my small town considered ridiculously "abnormal". I've since moved away from that small town and those small-minded people, and I finally just said to myself "I'm gay". It was honestly one of the best things I've ever done.

That being said, I'm still very much not ready to go any further with it. Getting closer, but it'll probably take another half-decade before I tell anyone in real life. Time only knows when I'll actually pursue a relationship

In fact, and I don't know what possessed me to do it here, this is my first time coming out to anyone, anywhere. And jeez, I can't believe how scary that "Post Quick Reply" button is looking right now. Maybe I'll just blather on a little longer to postpone the decision.

In terms of myself and stereotypes... Not much there. I'm certainly not the "queen" type (those guys actually irritate me to no end). That being said, I do figure skate and specialise in a line of work dominated by women (Script Supervising for film and TV... lol, just realised anyone in the Toronto film business could probably figure me out easy now :p). Not a fan of Disney or musicals (bar Pirates and Rocky Horror respectively), don't like pink (though purple's nice), don't shop at Abercombie & Fitch, and rarely use "like" out of context.

In terms of Smash, I main Zelda (rarely using Shiek anymore), but also like Link, Mewtwo, and Jigglypuff. I'm not a tournament player and think wave-dashing and dash-dancing are some of the ugliest things I've ever seen done in the game, lol ;) . I check the Dojo religiously, and did so back before Melee was released as well.

So yeah... here goes...

EDIT: Just realised I started and finished the post with "here goes".... How terrible.
Thanks for coming out. It's great of you to finally start feeling comfortable with yourself. When I finally admitted it to myself when I came out to college and started to accept it I began to feel better too. I hope things don't progress to fast for you, and if they do just take a deep breath. ^_^ Don't worry about actively seeking a relationship right now. If you are meant to have one before you feel you are ready to seek one, it will find you and you will know. I wish you the best of luck with that.

Also, you just drew my attention to the fact that I say "like," out of context a LOT. XD

Look what we have here, our first slanderous message. I slapped him with a flame warning, but in the future, the next warning will be doubled, meaning anymore flaming will result in banning. I take this extremely serious as a lot of members are obviously scared here with no place in real life to talk about how they feel.

Also, anything inappropriate, since obviously it'll come up, keep it in spoilers with a warning.
Thanks a ton Crimson King. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say we appreciate what you are doing for this thread and us.

Um.

More like, what's wrong with you? You're obviously prejudiced against gays or something of the sort.

What the ****? That has to be one of the most blatantly ignorant statements that I've seen in a while. I'm assuming you're a guy, and to be honest, most guys do like lesbians (right?). The same probably can't be said for females and gay men, but that's probably due to how men/women in general think and perceive differently.

Just think about your line of thought when girls say "_______ is so cute/hot/etc." What's your response? Nothing really, since you're not sexually attracted to men. It may be bag logic on my part, but I'm just putting a hypothesis out there.
what... i wasnt saying lesbians were hott...i was saying girls were...i was asking how a gay guy could think a guy looks better then a girl... yes we tend to like lesbians but i dont go around looking for'em.

not my place to judge what kind of person you are by your sexuality(some girl may have been abused by her father making her hate all men)

Ain't much of a story for me to tell here =P

I'm 21 and have been gay since I hit puberty. Of course, I always hated myself for it, and like the blink guy, I would try to tell myself that I just wasn't "normal" thanks to the 'religious teachings' my parents gave me. About four years ago, I tried to play myself as bisexual and got myself into a relationship with a woman that lasted close to two years.... however, it wasn't really successful. While I felt happy to know that someone cared for me and that I could care for them back, I never truly felt 'loved' or that I could 'love' them back. Eventually, I just came to accept it.

I've been pretty open about it. I don't have a billboard or anything that says "I'm gay", but if someone were to ask me about it, or if the topic leads me on to say it or joke about it, I don't lie to myself or anyone else. The only people that don't really know are my parents and.. other adults of the family. My sister knows, my friends know, some random strangers know, and now you all know.

I've only had one boyfriend, which wasn't very successful due to the guy being pretty... well.. weak towards his mother. (His mother tried to figure out just WHY he was bi, and it got him trying to convince himself he wasn't.. thus ending our relationship). I've had SEVERAL crushes on guys.. my first crush was on an old school friend of mine that I used to hang out a lot with. There was actually a moment in our friendship where it maybe... could've developed into a relationship.... but I just wasn't very willing to accept my sexuality back then. I've also got a kind of... mini-crush right now. I don't have any real feelings for the guy.. but I found out some information about him some time ago, and it's just constantly made me curious how things would work out.

I'm not stereotypically gay, at all. I look like just your average geeky gamer kid. Most of my friends had no clue about my sexuality until I told them, and even then some thought I was just joking about it. About the only thing stereotypical about me is that I'm slightly effeminate in the sense that I'm pretty weak, quiet, and shy. I'd definitely be the "woman" in the relationship =P I'm no queen, though.. thankfully.

Finding a boyfriend is pretty tough... especially here in GA, where there are either straight anti-gay guys, gay guys that just haven't come out yet, or gay guys that I don't care to get involved with... it isn't fun.

In relations to Smash, I'm a competitive Fox player. Played Fox mainly 'cause I liked the character.. lucky for me he's broke as trash =P I've been playing the game since it was out, but I've only been competitive for less than a year. I really wish I could find a boyfriend that would play both Smash and Guitar Hero with me... 'cause I love both of those games to death, and I just think it'd be nice to play some of those games, and then cuddle afterwards :3

Much <3 to all you guys. You're all courageous for coming out here, or at all for that matter.

EDIT: KrystalRules - You're asking why us gay guys can find men more attractive than women, huh? Well... maybe it's because of the fact that we're GAY! Our hormones just tend to react differently towards the same gender than yours do. You think men are icky and women are hot because you are a straight male. We think men are hot and women aren't (don't quote me on that, I'm not saying all women are ugly or anything.. a lot of you are beautiful) because we are gay males. It's the same thing for a lesbian.

I guess you'd call it Canada's Hot Topic.

Thanks man. I've gotta say, I don't think I would have posted if it weren't for your first one. Really made me think. Thanks again.

lmao

I use "like" out of context a lot too... and pink is my favorite color. ^^; But I'm no "queen". D=
lol, sorry if I implied anything.

YOU'RE NOT GAY.

The way you perceive women and men may very well be dramatically different from the way they perceive them. And to answer your question, it's because they're gay. Could you be any more narrow-minded?

I'm no queen but I can definitely see myself as being the uke or the "woman" in a relationship. X3 I could never be so flamboyantly gay, I mean no offence to those who are... but... I just couldn't. @_@

I actually have a corny dream about being in a relationship. ^^;

Edit: KrystalRules you don't "know" anything other than us being gay... so please just stop. ^^;

Buddy, I have a feeling you're not meaning to come across as offensive and ignorant as you are, so I'm not going to be pissed. You really don't know how being gay really is, and never will. I have a feeling every gay person here will agree that sexual orientation is not a choice. No matter what you heard or believe, I'm telling you right now that I didn't choose to be this way. Not saying that I'd like to change; I love who I am. Anyways, you've got to change your thinking, please. For the good of society. We'll never improve as a people if there is still such backwards thinking like this existing with people.

WTF are you talking about? @_@ The US is "falling to pieces" because some people just aren't good people... sure some of them are gay but MOST aren't since there are less gays than straight people... so I don't understand what you're saying at all... and no matter how much you use "no offense" what you're saying can be considered not only offensive but ignorant and hateful as well... I suggest you stop. T.T

yeah! we could possibly have a Lady president!(no offence to girls) and we may leave Iraq to change back to communism(why do people complain about that we still have troops in Germany from WWII)

It's the SUBJECT of gays that's causing controversy in the US, not the people... also I DID read your whole post, if you clarified what you meant then maybe I wouldn't have posted that... but then again I may have still if your clarification involves blaming gay people.

Um, wrong. You never decided "I like girls." It happened through genetics. Your genes determined whether you did or not. Why would ANYONE choose to be apart of a painful and exiled existence. Read some of these people's stories, a lot of them feel it a burden due to social restraints.

yeah! we could possibly have a Lady president!(no offence to girls) and we may leave Iraq to change back to communism(why do people complain about that we still have troops in Germany from WWII)
What? Iraq was a fascist dictatorship, not communist.

Seriously, anymore bigoted hate speech and you are warned double.

Please, KrystalRules, just cut it out. I take it back. You are ignorant and offensive, and you obviously don't care. I appreciate everyone else who are decent people shutting this guy down, but KrystalRules, I didn't make this thread to discuss or debate the bull--- you're bringing in here. So cut the crap, before I have to get a moderator in here.

I've been lurking this thread, and I say you should simply ignore him. While I do not have specifics to contribute to the thread (I am a straight male), I must say all of you are pretty brave souls for coming out openly to a public forum. The main reason I wanted to make a post is; you have Crimson King already here as your moderator watching this thread. He'll take care of all of it. :)

Actually, I'm glad you posted. I'll try to take your advice. Straight or gay, I wanted this thread to be a place to discuss these sort of things in a positive manner, unlike how KrystalRules is acting. I appreciate the support and the kind words. And thanks to Crimson King for being the strong-arm in here. I had a feeling we'd need mod powers to shut down people like this.

As a devout Christian, regardless of a person being a certain orientation or not. (Despite the fact I may not agree with certain views and ideals that gays uphold) In the end, they're still people and we can't judge, or "tar and feather" 'em because of how they feel for another person. I know back then I used to bash gays like hell, but once you grow up you realize that it's pointless to pursue trying to "rectify" a situation that doesn't really need rectification. I feel like a hypocritical Christian, but at the same time I'm happy that I'm not a homophobe. I already know and met a couple smashers in my lifetime who fit the description of the title of this thread, and to my surprise, they were actually cool and didn't try hitting on me or anyone I know for that matter. Ever since then, I had respect for them, regardless of my love women, I'll never impose anything on gays or start debates.

R-E-S-P-E-C-T all the way. *peace sign*

P.S. In H.S. (before 9/11) I was bi-curious, not anymore though. And I'm great pals with 4 cometitive gay smashers, which I'm not afraid to admit could kick some mean a$$.

Yeah in my area there's this one gay smasher that gives me the best competition/training and we hang out and even do teams together in tournies and sometimes do really well. I must say, if it weren't for smashboards, I'd probably still be an ignorant turd.

Good sh** SWF. ^_^

Thanks for being part of the solution, not the problem. ^_^ Also, I'm glad to see that religious people supporting homosexuality even though it's so popular in a religious community to condemn it. I'm curious with what you said, D1, about how you were bi-curious but now you're not. I've never a straight guy who's considered themselves to being bi-curious at one time. Was it a religious thing or maybe you just "figured out" what you really want to be? I dunno, 'curious, though.

I've just started college now and my best friend decided to come out at the beginning of this We go to two different colleges about 45 minutes apart and when he came out it just threw me for a loop.

I don't know if he was embarassed to tell me or what but it just made me realize people need to be comfortable with who they are. Even though it caught me really off guard, it's not like there was any difference between him when I thought he was straight and now that I know he's gay. It's not like he's any less funny or fun to hang around.

The only reason people are uncomfortable around gay people is because they have trouble with their own insecurities.

Wow, what a rant.

I think people take a while to come out to other people isn't really about being comfortable with who they are, but more over worrying about how others will view them or treat them. It's not foreign for even the closest of relationships to tear apart because one confessed to the other about his/her sexuality. Personally, one of my very good friends (or at least I thought she was) started to ignore me in the halls and stopped speaking to me after I came out to her in high school. I'm lucky that this is the only example I have a good relationship that went south because of this. Coming out is a long, methodical process and guys take a lot of things to heart when deciding how and when to come out.

With that said, let me thank you for being one of the good guys and realizing nothing's changed between y'all. I'm sure he appreciates it, too.

I'm so glad there's a thread here about this.

You guys are dashing and absolutely brave for admitting to this thread. Its inspirational for me. Me...I'm not a new member, but I've been really lazy to search the forums until today since its finally the holidays and I finally have some time to kill. If I had known about this forum, I would have said something right away.

Anyway, its nice to know guys and girls who are gay and bi (or trans if there are a few) like playing Smash Bros. too. Everyone I know who are gay/bi are into fashion and sports but no one admits to liking video games. I'm glad that Smash Forums has a community with members who are true to themselves. Every one here after all is human. We all deserve who to love, and what we love.

I myself am a male who has a best friend who is a lesbian. I've known her since junior high and I always had that feeling she wasn't attracted to guys (because she was always so secretive about dating). It took her this year to finally come out and I'm so glad that she did. I'm so supportive of her and she is of me. It works out. She's a girl who acts absolutely normal for a girl, from shopping to talking to friends, to even playing a round of Mario Kart with me lol. I'm her prosaic, collected, and sophisticated (grammer snob too) nerdy friend who rather buy a video game than go out with a superficial girl and she doesn't see anything wrong with that. I love her and she is the coolest person I know. Thanks for listening you guys (and girls). If you live in the Southern California region, talk to me on my myspace. I'm always there. Its cool to finally meet people who are so liberated to be themselves.

Eh. Screw tournaments. Excuse my French. No one should be ashamed of who they are. Of course, we have our skeletons in our closets, but sometimes, its better that way. If no one makes a big deal about it, don't worry about it. Your still the same person after all.

Well I was actually thinking of making a thread about this but I've been lazy to go search for one that has been already made..so

Yah I'm gay >_> I figured it out like two years ago(now I'm 16 about to turn 17 next month) and my life has been okay, well border line of being depressed. I'll pretty much tell anybody I'm gay mostly because most won't believe me. Looking at me you won't think I'm gay because of the way I act. I don't act all feminine(if thats the word XD) just normal. I haven't had a boyfriend or a girlfriend at all during my life and I probably will not get one anytime soon. Why? This town I live in is filled up with red necks and thugs..so yeah. I'm into guys that like stuff I like..(anime,games, computers, flowers XD) but it's hard.
Anyhoo I don't want to pull you guys through a guilt trip or anything

Thanks for the thread :D!

Uhm...most of my friends know I'm gay and only one of them is gay too, lesbian.
