Is there a base set of codes to start me off in making my own CSS?
I know I need all the independent pokemon, CSS fix for Sheik/Zelda and Samus/ZSS.
I don't know where to input the char ID's and all this other stuff.

Glad to see this got bumped again. I have a small problem.


I've been using Adapt's fixed Custom CSS code (http://www.smashboards.com/showpost.php?p=8004564&postcount=107), and it works great.

The only thing is there's a problem when I decided to take out the Pokemon Trainer Icon and make the Squirtle, Ivy, and Charizard icons NOT independent (1C,1D,1E).

Imagine the CSS screen with 40 icons (full 4x10): Whenever I finish/end a game with Squirtle, Ivy, or Charizard, the cursor will always be on the 4th row, 5th column icon.

Can anyone fix this bug?
Disable the Indy Pokes engine? Also, it's not the CSS, it's just the Fix that fixed the problem...it'll work with any CSS. Why the WBR never used v2.1 of the code is beyond me...

Alright guys, so I'm pretty new to editing Brawl and I still play pretty vanilla; I only use infinite replays with tags and textures. I would like to have a custom CSS, but with the only difference being ZSS having her own icon, is this at all possible, or is their at least a code with as little change as possible?

i made this one not for an 100% visually appealing css, but more for functional use.

What's going on is that I often play smash with KYCD, so I decided that We bring characters we use often together so that we wouldn't have to browse the ENTIRE screen length to pick a new character.

The colour filters explain most of what I'm about to say, but i'll go a bit more in-depth on some parts.
First off, the characters are split into 2, left and right half, left side being characters i tend to use more than him, and vice versa on the other side.

RED: Char's We personally use the most.
YELLOW: Char's we both use often. Note: We sometimes use ike or ganon, which is why they're on the same row.
GREEN: Char's we both use not so often, but still use once in a while.
CYAN: Char's we rarely use, but we'd almost never side any Cyan-tinted characters from the other side of the screen.
VIOLET: Like the Cyan, except Char's we almost never use.
BLACK: This one does not follow the split (your side my side) thing. Black-tinted characters are characters neither of us ever use.

did you have CSS Zelda/Sheik and Samus/ZSS code with you?
you need that if you plan to do anything with zss or sheik.

On another Note: I'm planning to create a photoshop PSD that has the selection screen with all portraits for people to play around with, experiment and stuff. It'll come with a grid for easy alignment, but I honestly don't know about the icon spacing with 35 characters or less, which is what i'm about to try.

updated my CSS, the one showed 3 posts above has that "random unselectable bottom row"

So I'm switching to this instead, and it works fine with me.


Okay this is complex unless I do some explaining *cracks knuckles to start typing*

-Let's start off with the horizontal Black "T" you see there. This is dividing the characters KYCD and I use. The top half being mine, lower half being his and anything on the right to be what we don't use at all.
-The magenta lines show the likeliness we'll use those characters, 1 being most likely, to 4 where we don't touch them at all.
-The 2 parallel yellow line segments: these characters are characters only used by one of us. Where it is crossing from mario to MK, are characters KYCD won't ever use and same goes for me with the other line.
It reinforces the division of the big "T".
-Rectangular frames; Characters in the green frame are characters I use most often, red frame are his usuals.. Notice how the frames overlap and break the T border? It's just an exception because we have characters we both like to use often that we don't main. On the topic of mains, our mains are on the 2 corners.
-Orange and cyan tints; characters we don't use as often but still will choose time to time. characters in 2nd and 3rd row have exceptions. Sometimes he'll like to use Link for example and I will pick random at times.

Yup yup, I put quite an amount of thought into this. Yes that includes the fact that random is off-center. It's a 50char list, hence why I can have 10 columns, the trick is the last row, the 5th, is a line of none's. haha.

If anyone wants a copy of this sandbox-like style of laying out characters, Let me know. It's a photoshop PSD (CS3, but i'm sure any photoshop can open it). Every character has their own layers, all you need to do is use the move tool to move them around anyway you like. Yes it doesn't look great and there's a rectangular gray fill on the backdrop covering the original content, but whatever I'm not selling it or anything, it's just for drafting and idea plotting so neatness won't matter a lot.

mistakenly? I did add them. Oh wait I guess I don't need to do I? my bad lol. I forgot the characters are "centered aligned and not left aligned, but yeah sometimes the cursor runs over the last row as if the 5 characters never existed. but the next time i pick char's it's fine. whatever.

Base? I took a screen shot of a E3 CCRC Ninjalink vs. Chillin' on youtube. I had to go look for other video recorded images or ZSS, sheik, and the pokemon. would've been quicker if i just pulled up my wii and screenied a B+ list and work off of that. Whatever.

Did you use codes or CSS Organizer? If you used the organizer then where did you get the CSS Pac file with the wildPKMN/shiek/ZSS? I wanna customize my own CSS using all 39 characters using the CSS Organizer

well obviously i used codes, css organizer uses codes as well you know :laugh:
the pac's i got from a thread in this subforum. Search for a thread that's suppose to be a "quick guide on making your own textures". the bolded italicized text should be the key phrase you should be looking out for when you skim through your search results. it contains all pac's for every character.


new look, again. I'm still using photoshop to compose my images and i love it. ;)
The idea flew around a bit. Initially I was planning:
-to make all characters my friend and I never use by sent to the top, left and right fringes.
-to have characters we share in the middle column (excluding the top row)
-to have characters each character we don't share between the center and edges
-again it's using the variables of how likely we will use that character that determines most of the characters position. I was going to go as far as putting random off-center because I don't use random a lot.

The new change: simply the shape of the css

BTW: that ghostly olimar under random is from the base image i use to compose all my other CSS's that have been posted several times in previous posts.
i finally have dl'd and filled up every chracter for textures, all i need to do now is mess with the CSPs

Could someone help me out here? I made a CSS using the CSS Organizer and apparently put it in the right place, but it won't let me place it in the location. I tried compressing it, but this also didn't work; I could put it in the folder, then, but no changes would actually be made to the CSS.

Okay so I downloaded a "Tier_List_sc_selcharacter.pac".
I followed some intructions like private/wii/apps/rsbeo etc...blah blah you get it right? So I did that and I put this pac file in the folder "men u2" and when I play brawl through Gecko, nothing changes. Does this mean I would have to find a code or something? I"m so lost at this point!

Unfortunately, yes. Any none icons, even none icons that don't even change the position of the slots, will screw up your game. I heard it was a problem with Brawl not being able to handle the memory...or something
so what i've been doing for months will screw up my disc?

I suppose i wont be using this one i just made up.

if so i'm just gonna stuff those spots with randoms and falcons

photoshop file, instructions should be on the document already, one of the bottom layers.
This is like visual brainstorming, where you can play around with the css to your hearts content to get a near-accurate visual of what your new CSS would look like. In no way does it MAKE the css for you, only for planning. It's quite useful actually.

Included are guides that space css icons. Should have those visible, be able to snap to them and lock em down so you dont accidentally move them.

@edit: correct. if you throw a bunch of falcons and randoms in thr blank spaces, youll be ok, but im not 100% sure how you have to formulate the custom random if you have more than 1 of the same character

also, im downloading that base image you put up, thnx

Not "screw up the disc", but sometimes when you're playing with the CSS enabled, after you finish a match some parts may become unselectable. It's as if some of the character icons act as None spots and you can't pick them, although the rest of the characters still work. Depending on the shape of your CSS, you may lose different areas of the screen. The only way to fix it is to restart Brawl (return to Wii menu and relaunch it)

By the way, I really like that design you made, and the way it centers around 2 random buttons. I might tweak the character arrangement and try it out for myself, so I can test how glitchy it becomes. It's a shame that the coolest designs don't always work 100% right.

OH phew in that case i love my designs then, im aware that some of the characters on the bottom row become unselectable, but really you dont have to relaunch brawl. all i do is play another game and it should be selectable again.

I put characters my friend and i dont use on the outer edges, esp the bottom. this time i've really separated characters better than before, now it's clear there's the "you have your side, and I have mine". It's practically a venn diagram, the middle 2 columsn being characters we both use, with exceptions to marth and ike as i use them as well. i only put the one there because my friend uses a very small variety of characters.

whenever i modify my sel_character pac file to do something like this ^ my game always freezes. anyone know why?

hell, if even freezes if i use an unmodified sel_character pac replacement with the file patch code >.>

I'm not a fan of the CSP portraits not loading, but otherwise it worked as well as I'd hoped. Maybe later I'll consider adding Sheik/ZSS/Pokes, but then I'd have to tamper with everything all over again. :p

and i managed to get it even crisper :D

but im not done, gimp crashed twice
but it turned out to be for teh better

EDIT: also, the main reason why im doing this is to fix 'zaro suit samus'

My custom CSS:

Player slots in the 4 corners. The characters in tier list order. Theres a gap between bottom and top, thats where the "ready to fight" bar pops up. Yes I spent like 20 minutes tweaking it to be perfect. I spent over an hour on this total lol. Also random is labeled. You can look at it like this. Pick a character from the top section, you have a chance. Pick a character from the bottom section, you're very brave or very stupid. Or Xyro.

Also you might ask, why are the player numbers in that order, 1,2,4,3? Because when you do teams in a tournament the teams will be on the same side. 1st and 4th on the same side, 2nd and 3rd. I just thought it felt right to me. It makes things more... IDK... organized.
