Me, Dawson, Landon, and Kevin were the only ones there for Brawl. We did doubles for a while, and some singles as well, so it turned out to be a pretty fun smashfest. I got a couple matches with Bladewise too, but apparently I was the only one. :x

hey trev does your name actually come from the word "cantrip"?

what time are people gonna be there tomorrow?
Yup. Cantrip spelled with a K in the way of my people.

:dk:

The play on the words "Can" and "trip" are merely coincidental, as are the convenient lining up of the change of letter to "K" (which I use as my tag), and the symbol for my favourite element, Potassium (commonly recognized due to its presence in bananas). Hey, another coincidence.

Can we keep brawl separate from melee? Just a request. Every time they get combined, bad stuff happens to us every time, for stupid reasons. I may even not show up if it is a combined event. As I said to several people before, I have little respect for the melee community, and after hearing what happened to specifically Dawson, what little respect I have is slowly dying away.

Yeah, just a request...

Dawson is actually happy with how things went down

-Brawl player beats PR'd melee player using a sketchy technique that he actually checked with before-hand to make sure it was legal
-Outrage ensues

Just so everyone knows he got his entry fee back which was a very professional decision by the TOs, the best they could do to make up for the unprofessional way in which the whole thing was handled.

My thoughts on Wobbling by the way (which I assume most brawl players share)

It's a jank technique, but it's not broken. It's harder to wobble than to to most chaingrabs in melee, because both climbers have to be right there. I mean once you get the grab yeah it's easy, but the conditions under which that has to happen are tight. If it was actually broken people would be able to win nationals with it, but I really don't see that happening (especially since ICs suffer a pretty bad fox matchup I'm told). The reason it's banned is because it's not entertaining at all, and we all know melee is a spectator sport.

There was confusion and possibly salty salt about Wobbling and in the end, a game ended up having to be replayed. He forfeit from the tournament.

Rob are you alive after the earthquake? (The biggest earthquake Canada has experienced in half a century...)

Zelda is way more satisfying than Peach in Melee. Maybe it's because Peach is actually good.

Landon pretty much got the gist of it.

So in all past tournaments, wobbling was banned but it wasn't stated in the rules this time. Dawson went up to Daze who said wobbling was okay. Now during a certain game against a PR'd player and Dawson won using wobbling to take a few stocks.

Then some of the Melee players discussed this among themselves and petitioned the other host to allow the match to be replayed because wobbling had never been legal in the past. So during another bracket match against a Samus (I lost to him. Why are her missiles so powerful! :(), and I think Dawson was winning, it got interrupted and Dawson was told he had to replay the game. Dawson didn't want to replay it and just forfeit. He got his fee back and renounced Melee forever.

Rob, Melee and Brawl were together in the past because of some unfavourable scheduling. Next tournament will be just us, with respectable attendance.

Alright so I just want to make a few things clear.

What happened happened. I'm happy about how it ended, even if I disagree with the decision.

The only reason I learned to wobble was because people were trash talking about how easy it is to cg in brawl compared to how hard it was to wobble. I don't think anyone is going to make that comparison again, and if they do well.... Point is I went in wanting to make someone salty and I did. I beat someone on the PR, got my entry fee back, and I ended my melee tournament life on a win.

Obviously it sucked what happened, but I don't hold it against them or their community. By banning wobbling the only thing they are really doing is alienating me. I do like their community and for the most part are very nice. It really isn't worth getting upset at all of them when it really is only a few people who made the decision. I doubt everyone agrees with it anyways. It's really not worth the awkwardness, especially since I don't have enough interest in melee to care. Before I forfeit I asked Jake, Kevin, and Landon if they were still in and they weren't. It wasn't worth staying in bracket, the friendlies upstairs were certainly the highlight of the night.

TL;DR: Melee players can't handle Brawl Smart

I will try to keep them separate if I can, but there's only so much flexibility we can get in choosing dates without having to pick a non-Saturday. Hosting Brawl during a Melee tournament seemed to have a much more dramatic effect on attendance than I had anticipated, though I'm not sure how much of that is because of how last-minute this date was set, or how much of it was strictly coincidence. Obviously having separate events would be much better for us, but after yesterday, I think split events can work out alright. I didn't even really hear any Brawl trashtalk all day, and we had enough set-ups to run a tournament, even with the scope of this particular Melee event. It's also probably safe to say the wobbling drama was a one-time incident, seeing how Dawson doesn't plan to enter anymore Melee events.

As for today, I'll probably arrive at around 1:30ish. Dawson and Mike have confirmed with me that they'll be there at around the same time. See you guys there!

Sion, I will more likely start coming for P:M from now on. =] I actually kind of know how to play the game now.

big d got bad info from daz.
daz ****ed up. violence recorrected the error.
violence is the actual one who was running the tourny.
daz is a streamer.
**** happens guys. it was handled pretty well big d got to either replay the match or forfeit and get his $ back.

i handled it pretty well. it was fair.

I agree that the wobbling situation was handled horribly and I had thought that dazrin learned from his mistake last tourney with the rerun mike had to do with evan to make rules solid but he just slapped the mbr5 ruleset without taking a look at it

I will be hosting from now on and wont let something like this happen again. Just so I'm not misunderstood, I don't dislike you dawson; I just can't respect that ****. No beef pls.

For clarification on my post, if it was referenced...

I've been part of the melee community since 2008, and I've seen several things that seriously bother me (mostly on the Victoria end, but several instances in the Vancouver end), so I have my reasons for not being a fan of the melee community. Not everyone, some people are great to hang out with, but overall, I've been here long enough to have a legitimate opinion about the community.

Anyways, it seems like everyone's done talking about it.

No Kev, I didn't feel it. Reports say it was felt as far South as the Vancouver area, so apparently it was not felt in the Victoria area.

Nobody is taking crap about the Melee players. I think I'll come to the next Melee tournament... with Lolda. I should have played friendlies in Melee yesterday :(

It's been an unspoken rule since wobbling came out that it is not permitted in tournament. it's ultimately the person who posted the rule set in the thread who should take responsibility for this. the only problem was that Dawson didn't know about this unspoken rule; and how could he have? He hasn't been involved in the melee community for any length of time. The way it was handled was proper. the fact that Dawson read the ruleset, didn't see anything about wobbling not being allowed was dazrins fault. The fact that a tournament set was played out where nobody notified him about it being banned as soon as they noticed it, was pathetic.

I feel for Dawson on this one. In the future, we need T.O's like myself who have actual experience and knowledge about the rules of melee tournaments, no offence to dazrin.

What reasoning is behind this?

Or do you perhaps have none, and are just spewing hot air, never to reply to me?

EDIT: Read the whole scenario, he didn't even enter to make people salty.

He entered to win it would seem, and you guys did him a big wrong and now are disrespecting him for it.

Melee Smart.

he didn't enter to win he entered to piss people off with wobbling, as was clearly stated in his post lol. Not trying to drag this out but it was stated that the reason he entered to piss people off was because people were talking about how much harder it was to wobble in melee than CG in brawl and he just wanted to prove them wrong.

Wobbling is dumb but I don't think it should be banned. Good thing I don't have the experience nor the authority to make that call!
