FYI, the next Pokemon event at Stronghold is likely January 4th weekend so don't do anything then either. There are very few premier level events in BC and with this season's World Championships happening in Vancouver and the continued growth of Pokemon everywhere, we've seen a noticeable spike in attendance at the events so far.I had scheduled the venue with Josune (the guy who does their scheduling) a couple weeks ago for today because the event calendar had this date blank. I book it with him, but a few days later, he comes back and tells me there was a Pokemon event going on the same day. ****ty, but we talk about it, and he tells me they can still accommodate us, so I make a trip to the venue (this is a bit under an hour each way for me BTW) to meet up with him and figure something out. We come to the conclusion that we can probably use the space normally designated for TVs that we typically use, and in the worst case scenario, we can use their upstairs balcony space (where we had the smashfest the day before P7). This sounds great, finally something working out.
Fast forward to this morning. I get to the venue a bit before 11, and it's pretty crowded. It looks like we might still have room though; one of the employees passes by, so I ask him if I can start setting up...and he had no idea there was a Brawl event scheduled for today. This strikes me as odd for obvious reasons, but he said he'd ask his boss about it, so I wait for a few minutes. Meanwhile, the few tables that are in that area are being moved around to use for Pokemon. So then the boss comes over, says we can't use that area, and directs us to a small corner with a shelving unit and 4 TVs huddled together so you can't actually fit people around each one - no tables or anything - and says that's what we get. I ask about using their upstairs area...and he says no. There was nobody up there. =/
After a few minutes, we get about 6-7 people playing there. It's already crowded; I was having flashbacks to the early points of P6, for anybody who remembers what that venue was like. Fortunately, we were able to get a table out of them, and it helped a bit, but it was still awful. We were packed in like sardines, and a few new players left before long, probably because of how stupid the set-up was. Running doubles was fun. =/ Eventually, the Pokemon event thins out, so we finally got to spread things out once we got the singles bracket running. After I got knocked out of singles, Josune came by, and I had a good conversation with him about what had happened. Apparently he had set up the original space for us the night before, and he confirmed that the owner of the venue really doesn't give a **** about us because we make less money for the store than stuff like Magic does, and that was why we keep getting shafted. It's one thing to choose the events that make more money for the store; when you're running a business, that's just the sensible thing to do. But there was really no reason to restrict us from using a completely unused, open space. On top of that, I've been getting bad vibes from the owner, and I really do get the sense that he wishes we would just disappear. =/
Josune said he was going to bring up what happened today at their next staff meeting. He is legitimately looking out for us, and that's the only reason I'm still considering Stronghold as a venue for future events.

I probably won't be around on January 4th, so I won't be booking anything for that date. Thanks for the heads-up though!FYI, the next Pokemon event at Stronghold is likely January 4th weekend so don't do anything then either. It's weird they didn't let you guys use the other room. When I talked to their League leader the day before (doesn't work at the store anymore but used to) he was also concerned Smash was at the same time but figured the upstairs area was available for use. I'd seen the Smash tournament on the same date when I looked online and was kinda confused but didn't really know what the size of the Brawl scene was.

I can only upload the actual replay files, since my actual wii to pc adapter thingy is at my mom's house, and it's records in 240p!The first 3 is my bracket set with Kantrip, and I'm pretty sure the last 3 (ninja'd, they are) is T-block vs. Kantrip's bracket set. If you could upload all of them, that would be fantastic. =]
