Thats what really puts me off competitive pokemon. Theres alot of strategy's and all, but sometimes even with a fantastic strategy it could all fail due to luck kicking you in the ***.

chess does have an element in luck.

i dont miss soloing the elite 4 with charizard.

The only element of luck in Chess is whether you are white or black. I'm pretty sure white has a 55% win rate in high-level tournament play, so clearly there is an advantage when playing white.

Arrow is right, the unpredictability of players makes any competitive game (versus a non-AI opponent) slightly random, because you can never predict with 100% certainty what they will do.
