GAWes tried the same approach and it didnt really help for like 3 years. all you will do is make less friends and more enemies.
Actually, it worked quite well. For some reason about 3-4 years ago there were no good players from ATL area besides Blake and 3 other guys that didn't play smash for much longer. All the players were in the suburbs and all too young to travel. So back then i was about number 4 in GA or so, i used to just pick random areas and post threads on smashboards (this was back when regional zones didn't even exist) and just call them out. Everyone thinks i'm so nice, because i am in person, but i did what i had to do, and if you don't respect that, i don't really care because most of you (and don't think i believe video games are like some religion or a movement or something, its just a game that i absolutely love playing) have done little or nothing to improve the community besides getting noobs to recognize slightly high level play and giving a few people your money at tournaments. Take that as you will. I talked loooooads of **** to regions. I would post threads that were basically titled "Savannah Sucks" and just see if ANYONE would turn up. Most of you weren't even around for this, and honestly, if it wasn't for the tournaments i organized, most of you wouldn't be any good at this game. Yes, thats arrogant i guess, but its also true. I put a lootttttt of work into this community since i was 14 years old guys. I hosted the second smash tournament in GA. I was the first to break 50 people. First to break 100. And i honestly didn't get very good compared to OOSers for a long long time. Really, i wasn't that good until Chad came along. Bobby, Mike, and I ran this state for too long, so we all got soft, i pretty much never expected to beat mike, cause, i mean, he's mike G. yo. but thats the wrong attitute, be friends in real life, and worst ****ing enemies in the game. Chad and I are really good friends in real life. But when we play to win, we play as hard as we can, i'm the same with everyone i play.
want the secret to getting good????
read below, i don't know how many people don't get this, but if i had to name one person who really really gets this i'd point out Alpha
Don'ts -
*Don't think that playing a lot makes you good. I've met kids who have played for years and lose to me in less than 45 seconds
*Don't think that you have to travel to all the tournaments to get good.
*Don't think that you can't beat someone, if you have to talk yourself up a little, do it, people will yell at you, they always do, if you can back yourself up, then you can, if you can't, there is always next time.
*Don't think tech skill is that important
*Don't make character Johns
*Don't suck other people's ***** so much. Do you play so they'll get better? Or do you play so you'll get better? Jesus guys, come on.
Do's
*Every single time you play a match (unless you are drunk) TRY AS HARD AS YOU CAN, or as close to that as you can make yourself, no one can play like they do in a tournament, but seriously, if you just play your friends all the time, and sit there, and just lazily combo, and try out the new "techs" from your character specific thread and **** like that. You aren't going to get good, you may get decent, but you'll never be that great, and hey, if you and your friends don't have any other way to hang out because you're turbonerds or something, then whatever, thats cool i guess.
BUT THIS ENTIRE POST IS FOR THE PEOPLE THAT DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THEY NEVER GET TOP 5 IN TOURNAMENTS
* pick a few things you know you should work on, and work them into your friendly gameplay, what you practice ( and i don't mean tech skill) in friendlies, is what makes you good in tournaments, because in high stress matches, you don't have the room to try something out for the first time.
*Do get out of Atlantic South if you don't plan on getting better through tournaments. Sorry, but the main forum you are under is TOURNAMENT DISCUSSION. if you want to just have fun with your friends and ****, go to MELEE DISCUSSION, where people still think bombsoldier is a god among men and people actually listen to Laijin when he talks about Caveman.
*Truth is hard learned lesson. Consistency is the most important thing in getting good. If you can beat a few foxes and falcos who are too dumb to get out of ****ty combos. Great, you can beat half of the nation's players. But seriously, if you get four stocked by "crazy" characters like ganon or peach or marth or falcon, then you are not good. Sorry
*
Here are the most important facts of getting good
-Learn to move your character around the stage and your opponent
-LEARN TO DI - its not just about what percentage you die at, its about everything, its whether that tipper from marth catches you after a double fair, whether you die from a knee off the stage at like 50 percent or whether it misses you entirely and you come back to the stage to win the match. Matches are only 4 stock, that means you have 3 chances to **** up.
-TECH CHASE - tech chasing is not just from throws. Learn to follow your opponent and force them into your more laggy kill moves, tech chasing or jump chasing is how i catch 99 percent of Falcon Punches or any other laggy move.
-Worry about getting your opponent off the stage rather than combo videoesque combos. Only losers that worship DBR care about those combos, and you don't want their respect (i hope ><) A marth backthrowing a fox to a neutral jab to a down b to forward smash is a lot more effective then silly attempts at fast fall cancelling up airs to up tilts to "ken combos" and ****. Learn to be deadly, not flashy.
Hope this helped guys. Please stop making Johns. A lot of you may not like chad right now, but whatever. As far as I see it. Chad didn't like me when we first met. And for those people that play the game with their friends and don't feel like trying that hard against them because its just their friends and they want to have fun, then seriously, get off the couch and go have some real fun with your friends. Sitting in your basement on a ****ty couch with 3 other guys and playing smash, and sucking *** for 2 years straight is nothing to be proud of, that hasn't been cool since we were 12 or 13 years old. Most of you are young adults now. If you are going to stay in the community, contribute to it. This **** doesn't happen on its own. This is a competitive Forum, it is for tournaments, rankings, people being better than others. If you have a problem with saying "Person A is better than Person B" then you don't really matter. Have you ever seen an Olympiad get on TV and say "well germany is just too good at skiing" and make johns about that ****. **** no. Its the spirit of competition. I once saw a swimmer from Africa finish a full two laps or so behind the other competitors because their country doesn't even have a single olympic size swimming pool. What do you think he said to the others after the race? Do you think he *****ed about being bracket gayed? Do you think he appologized to them for dissapointing them? Do you think he made travel and money Johns? F.uck that.
lol he claims to go even with chillin and chudat when he lost. getting a person to 1 stock isnt anything to brag about. U LOST LOSER.
Actually he beat chillin.
