I hope this is the right place for this topic. I'm sorry if it isn't, which is probably the case. I'm an idiot you see :(

I was thinking how cool it would be to go to my first tournament and win it really badly, but then I got thinking how everybody always says "You'll get owned at your first tourny".

How well did you all do at your first tournament?

I won one set at my first tournament. So, second to last, whatever that came out to.

Don't get your hopes up and expect to do very well at your first tournament, you will only be disappointed. Go in confident, but don't expect to do well. Tournaments are how you improve.

second to last xD

Yeahh...don't expect to do too well for your first tournament xD
Not because 'YOU SUCK'...but because a lot of the people entering will have more tournament experience, and that makes a big difference

Though, you'll have sooooo much fun. Just go into it ready to have fun and meet people!!! :D

My first tournament experience was a blast. It was tons of fun, just hanging out with a bunch of people who love Smash, etc. I didn't do well at all but it had good memories.

Ummm.......I placed 1st :D

I got kinda drunk before the finals too, mainly because I was super nervous. The guy I was against in the finals had an awesome Marth.

That being said it was Ireland's 1st smash tournament.

5 years later and I'm still unbeaten.(Both Melee and Brawl) :)

I did way better than I thought I would. I learned so much so I guess I won and I hate m2k not for chain throwing me as sheik for 15 minutes but for the fact I was about to take a stock off of his gannon with my pichu and he quit because he didn't want to lose a stock to a pichu player I still had 3 stocks and my tricks that I do worked vs him like he dared me to nair him and he stood there over conflict and I dd around and perfect up-Bed to him and up-smashed his ugly face.

I also 2 stocked a really good marth named salt.

But yeah I learned that playing in your head is fairly legit and so much more.

IIRC, I went 2-2, but I didn't beat anybody noteworthy, so I still didn't really accomplish anything. I don't think I did anything somewhat impressive until a few months after I started going to tournaments.

This is for Melee, if that's of any significance.

I got 5th at my first tournament back in 2006. I was nearly 4-stocked by SwiftBass, but I did fairly well overall.

School tourneys don't count for me since theres no competition.

Pound 4 was my first tournament. Didn't even get out of first round pools, in fact I only won one game. (nervous johns)

I won a set at my first tournament. It was very close! I was pretty nervous though and didn't play many friendlies there. It took me a few tourneys to "get into" the community but now I care about it a lot and make sure to be really friendly with new players.

The first tournament I went to had a pretty wack ruleset compared to the current one we play with. You had to write down two characters. The first character you played with until you lost. After that, you had to play with your second character until you lost, and were out of the tournament. The matches were drawn out of a hat, and all stages were allowed. It was best out of 1. My first match was against this little kid, and he wanted to play on Hyrule Temple lol. I had to fight the eventual tournament winner, although it wasn't finals, it was a pretty close match but I lost. Afterwards, I felt really good about my performance, since I think I got like 10th place or so out of the 30ish people there.

Out of about 30 people, I was part of a 4-way tie for last place. It was the only tourney I've ever been to.

I got two-stocked by Amsah(Nihonjin) who's like the best player of Europe.

So that's not too bad...

Only he was playing with 1 hand >_<

Well, I made it to the semi-finals out of nearly fourty people, but of course after having an insanely close match with the eventual victor, I watch him 5-stock the Pit who was at the end of the other bracket. >_>

First tournament was in the Warwick Mall in RI, made it to the fourth round, lost to Haiyoto's Kirby (ok lost is an understatement, I got wrecked). then had a fun time just doing friendlies with YoYo who was tooling on me with bowser :p he's pretty much the reason I even bothered getting better at this game. Funny thing is I now play very consistently with ZoSo, his cousin.

Rom II, didn't even make it out of pools :p but had a lot of fun friendlies regardless. I'll be going to SOTP and APEX so heres hoping I get a chance to gain some experience and improve.

My first tournament was in Inets, Kissimee Florida. Uh, I didn't do well obviously. I don't quite remember who was there, I was just there cuz a friend told me to go. xDDDDDDDD

Then I was like, so ****ing depressed about how much I sucked. **** the first tourny is always like... a punch of reality in your face. I left early because of that. But after that you learn that its just a learning experience. I beat this roy noob once, and he was so out of it that he left before his losers match. Poor guy.
