lol I recently figured out that it takes precision more of less, but then I watch guys like Chops, who can move there hands ridiculously fast. Then I watch guys like you Kye, who don't move as fast, but every action they do with their character seems so accurate. I want to be a really technical player that has added intelligence to his game. Because to be a really good player, you have to be technical AND smart.
Chops is a freak, everyone knows this.
Well, he also plays Falco, a character that requires many button presses per second.
Besides that, there's this misconception that only competitive players **** their GC controllers. Watch scrubs/casuals hands when they play and you'd swear they were beasts at the game. It's just the nature of playing Smash.
Being technical at Smash is more about timing than fast fingers -- just like any fighting game. Very few techniques in this game require legitimately fast fingers.
Black players have a reputation of being technical in fighting games. No joke, there's a legitimate, sociological hypothesis for this phenomenon: Blacks are culturally socialized into environments that promote musical rhythms. This is why Blacks tend to be so rhythmically inclined in regards to anything requiring physical timing, whether it be sports, music... or videogames.
@ Kye- It's not so much that people aren't willing to disregard other techs in favor of other ones, it's just that most tech skills require the assistance of two people (which for most of us; isn't feasible) It's kinda unfair to call those people "impatient" or "unimaginative" when they aren't even presented with a steady partner at will.
I don't think it's unfair at all, you're just interpreting it as insult, when it isn't meant to be one. It's just the nature of the beast. Not every man is born to be a leader. You definitely don't *need* another person to practice techniques -- you just have to get more creative with the CPU.
Oh and I always thought you played with some sort of modded controller, or at least broke it into your preference Kye. I remember you specially complaining about not having your "moonwalking controller" (I lul'd btw lol) So what makes that controller so different from the other conventional controller out there? Why not just use any other regular controller to moonwalk around with? (Just asking, not trying to pick a fight, cuz I know you'll beat me up :D )
I was partially joking. I prefer Control Sticks that aren't stiff, cause' they promote moon walking and Reverse SHL. It is true, that I do prefer a specific type of controller ATM (Black, springs not too strong, fresh grip on Control Stick, but not stiff), but in reality, I learned it's all superficial.
There's was a time where my tech skill was so on point, that I didn't own a controller -- the last local tourney I won at a Lan Center called The Vortex (long ago), I went through the whole tournament borrowing people's controllers. I must have played with four different controllers that day. All it really takes is being in tune with the game.
