Seriously...

Note: I am already trying to improve my tech skill and general strategy, and watch more vids and all...

This is akin to asking how do you get faster than someone faster than you. Just be faster. There is a limit to how good you can get, and some people just have better reaction times, and just steadier and more responsive hands. Sometimes you just can't beat someone, because you just never will be that good I imagine.

Basically the people just above my level have been playing since the game came out (not consistently though). I only bought the game a year ago, but I've been totally addicted to get better.

They don't consistently **** me or anything...usually 1 or 2 stock me though.

Really determined to get better though.

You have to understand the interactions between you and your opponent in the match if you want to start beating people you couldn't beat before.

Spacing, baiting, positioning, mind games are extremely important.

Along side those, tech skill is also important, because the higher level play you get the fewer mistakes you can afford to make.

If you're losing repeatedly to the same people, you have to break down your matches, when does your opponent approach, how does he punish your approaches, how does he recover & how can you exploit that, when does he leave himself vulnerable, when does he shield, how does he tech, there are a lot of factors

I don't believe that you can sum up someone being 'better' than you, in that one word. There are too many aspects of gameplay that factor in to winning a match, and some simple changes here or there can affect the outcome.

If you can, get some matches recorded and I can go more in depth with how to win a match, it's hard to tell when I can't see what mistakes are being made.

If you want to get better then it's not about beating people who are better than you. It's all about getting better than them. That's different.

If you want to beat someone who is better than you though you either have to get into their head or get lucky and beat them when they aren't playing as well as they should be, or a combination of both.

You beat someone better than you by showing up to a tournament with a hood on and then play someone good and then when they beat you in the first game, you say " hey wait a second, I'm ICG, **** you!" and then you proceed 3-4 stocking that guy who beat you in the first game.

Mookie rah's article about observation would be a great read for you, observation is how you discover and learn how to exploit your opponents weakness's

yeah, just learn their playstyle

it really helps to have exp against them because you learn how they play. there are seriously HUGE differences between certain people who play the same character, so dont just learn the matchup but the player's habits. i like to compare pew's marth to m2k's, cuz i've played against both of them and they play sooooo differently. also like shroomed and hmw's docs. so different. learning someone's habits is so key

plus u just have to have solid tech skill so u punish hard when u do capitalize on mistakes

try to pick up on ANY patterns, while not going into any patterns yourself. try to make any read on anything and start from there. if they are consistently spot dodging all your grab attempts, dont think they wont do it one more time, and just punish.

Cheese them by learning their character's worst matchups and worst stages and then picking the appropriate character/stage to counter them.

This is the first thing that came to mind for me...

Two things:
1. Try to learn the patterns of your opponent, and see if you can capitalize on them by making correct predictions about what his next move will be.
2. Use mindgames (as mentioned before as well) to be unpredictable.

Don't think that they are better than you. If you do, then you get the mindset that you are supposed to lose

getting rid of this or any other related fears make you do a lot better in tourney. Those people slightly better than you or around your level may be afraid to lose. I'd say about 80% Mid-tier smash players carry this fear and think about the possibility of losing instead of focusing on playing their best.

I personally see it as having nothing to lose if you are 'worse'

Better player doesn't always win, it's whoever plays better under the stress of tournament

--

and also, everybody except for certain elite players have habits that become more and more obvious as time passes. You gotta keep mental notes in your head since when its 3rd match last stock both players at 555% percent they will automatically resort to instincts rather than thinking rationally

(my advice doesn't apply if you suck WAYYYYYYYYYY worse than them)

Practice alot in a time chamber away from them and hopefully you would be better than them or near to them in skill.

Just practice alot and read some tuts on melee, and hopefully in time you'll be near them.

Just requires effort, and WILL.

Also they might get better as you do, or not.

That's happened before minus the hood. you're amazing at least best poster on msash boards

but really the best way to beat someone better than you is to counter their play sytle if sheik beats me does that mean sheik is better or just countered me? one or the other or both. Learn and get better.

i also have another question i understand that parts in the game that you need to learn to become a better smasher such as
Techskill( complete control over your character)Spacing(ranges being at the tip of your opponents range close to the fire with out being burn) , baiting (in and out ranges, forcing them to approach), positioning, mind games are extremely important.

(Acaully positioning im still little vague in that aspect of the game if someone can also break that down with this question too )

but i really dont understand the concept of "Cover all options!" i know that a huge part of the game to get the finishing kill and covering everything but just if someone can explain that in more detail than that would be great cause i dont really understand it???/?

Just what you know to do. Like, what do you do in game?

You run... you attack (probably dash attack) and maybe you DON'T follow up from a dash attack.

Maybe you shield, and you press A while shielding to shield grabs.

Although, you can JUMP out of your shield instead of always trying to grab from it.

So, that's an OPTION.

So think of it like this "Should I JUMP OUT OF MY SHIELD and do something from there, or GRAB FROM MY SHIELD and follow up after a throw?"

As you get better you'll learn more options you'll have at your disposal. Like, dash dancing.

Okay so technically you can't beat someone who is better than you, but about beating him in the future:

-Go on smashboards and get as much help as you can, read guides, and watch videos. If this guy who is better than you doesn't do that himself, you are already putting yourself at an advantage.
-Practice tech skill ofc, its a pain but its a must.
-Play against other people, and gradually get better.
-Mentality is very important. Don't feel upset if you lose, and don't feel like you have to win. Just have fun, and learn how he plays so you can predict what he is going to do. If you are too serious while playing, your mind isn't going to be relaxed enough to analyze what is actually going on, and pick up patterns and such.
-Also, you can record vids of yourself if you want, and watch them afterwords, that also really helps.

Also:

Do they play low tier?

lol Axe. Yeah Tech skill is a ***** to initially get down consistently get down, but once its there, and you got it, its fun to wave dash around and ****

One thing that may be an issue, is your character selection(i didnt read the whole thread, so I dont know what the characters are) so maybe you just need a switch in Character
