If you are gonna beat a better player...it's just gonna be luck. If you want to get better you have to determine a playstyle that will beat theirs. The way I often play is total control, and domination. I like to smother my opponents. Deny the **** out of them, and never let them have fun--ever. I like to make the game as painful, and as thoroughly unenjoyable for them as possible. That's just how I play every game though. I like to deny others.

Pick a character thats really unconventional (ie super annoying) and actually get good with them, like ics or jiggs. I get scrubbed by ics and jiggs all the time. Also counter with roy is lol.

Wow I was going to say pick jigs but yeah if they play low tier sheik will just own. KK you are so right. Congratz at ROM3.

Edit: Thats not very nice Superspright. I am like the exact opposite.

character match-up advantage is just about the only thing that can help you if you're just worse than your opponent.

MINDGAYS! seriously that's one of the reason why top players are....top players because of mindgames. Also tech skill and all the other stuffles.

Wrong question.
Improvement is not just about winning matches. You learn a lot from matches you lose, if you care to pay attention to your opponent.

I used to beat people who were better than me all the time. Still do. It's all about the wavedash back into smash attack. All depends on character really. Fox is all about that wavedash back into upsmash. Marth is all about that wavedash back into forward smash.

????

Profit. But not a lot because local tournaments don't pay out that great.

Well. You adapt, and play better than them. On a consistent basis, this easily indicates you've met or surpassed the skill level of the opposing player.

But if this is happening, they're no longer "better" than you, as subjective as the criteria is.

Thanks guys for all the advice...I am taking it all on board, slowly.

My main competition atm are a falco, a marth, and a jigglypuff.

I main fox, and marth (and a bit of falco)...

I suppose the answer to the question might be that there is no-one better than you. It simplifies things

To help answer your question seriously, it would help if we knew how you played and stuff. I don't think any of us know how good you are. Do you have your Wave Dashing and L-canceling down? If you can L-cancel, how well can you SHFFL with Fox? If you had a vid of yourself, I could give you more accurate feedback on what you can do to improve.

Cuz I honestly don't know what to say lol. It's not often that I give advice, and when I do, it's usually sucky advice. I just like helping out new players. Your skill level's too high for me to give you any specific advice.

You mean about me giving bad advice, or your skill level being too high for me to help you?

I'm pretty sure anyone who I've given advice to would probably tell you that barely anything I said was helpful lol.

And most of SWF doesn't know how good you are.

You've never actually tried to give me help, lol. Mostly you're just like "Nah, it's not worth it I'll just give you bad advice", but I was mostly referring to the latter.

If you beat someone that's better than you, then he was obviously sandbagging, or he was probably not better than you. Or you had lot of luck. When you beat the better player, you become better, or has already been. So, you can never beat the better player, you always just beat worse players than yourself xD.
