Asians are no better. Perhaps they are less "hateful" about the ways they express their beliefs.

There's many Asians in my university. When I first came, two people I made friends often used homophobic slurs or made dumb comments. After two months, I finally challenged them. They were nice guys, but if we were going to be good friends, this behaviour was something that had to change. We had a two hour long heated discussion and it ended with me leaving the room, branding them bigots no better than racists. The truth hurts. I'm normally a friendly, easy-going person. Maybe even a "pushover". They were shocked I felt so strongly about the issue and that I refused to back down. I thought we wouldn't be friends anymore but funnily enough, they've respected me more since that day. They stopped using the slurs. One of them has absolutely shifted their stance since and even supports gay rights.

I'd like to think I played a role in those changes. You can't change everyone's beliefs. Some will always be jerks. But you can drive more change than you believe if you're willing to have a healthy, open discussion with people in your own community. I think people of the same ethnicity are nearly always in better positions engage difficult subjects in their own community.


People often comment there are less gay Asians or blacks. I think the cultural differences are the reason - more of them stay in the closet...

But if someone says something that honestly bothers you, just hit the report button. Sometimes, mods will let things slide if it looks like no one is bothered by it. This is because some people like to take swings at each other with the understanding that it isn't really personal. It's hard to tell which is which unless you report it.

As far as you being a human goes, when you're in a 5 page topic, you tend to read pretty much everything (i know I do) especially (in this case) when you've been actively posting in it, are a mod, are in a topic that's likely to get flaming, and made a post after the flaming occurred. If this topic were big, I'd buy that excuse, but I don't really believe you right now.

I didn't think MT was honestly speaking with any sort of personal grievances towards homosexual behaviour considering the number of times I've had to moderate his extremely crude and detailed descriptions of homosexual actions and fantasies.

You seriously saying that me being offended at jibes against gays causing me to allow people who hate gays to get vilified is literally the funniest thing I've ever heard, mainly because most of the heat I get is from the fact that I have a sense of nonchalance towards gay rights, a sense of apathy towards homophobia, and generally don't really identify myself with the gay community. So, I dunno, maybe things can change overnight.
