I don't think you can get prison time for killing animals anyway.

Just huge fines and bans from owning them.

I still think punishments in our homeland can be slight...confusing to say the least. Michael Vick who is well known for hosting dog fights was in jail for 2 years, while another athlete, Dante Stallworth, got 30 days in jail for DUI and Manslaughter. Then you go and look at another athlete, Plaxico Burress. He's serving 2 years in jail for carrying a gun illegally in public (also unregistered I think). I know these are all athletes, but assuming this happens to regular people too...you just have to wonder what's more important these days.

Vujadinovic said locals were protective of the girl and did not understand the media attention because they live in a region where stray cats and dogs are regularly killed. "On many internet pages you find lot of comments like, 'what is all that fuss about a few dogs?'," Vujadinovic said.
I think if she had just dipped the bucket into the river and let it fill up with water, more people would have seen it as euthanasia. But throwing them in like that does seem like unnecessary cruelty.

And just to remind some people here, cities and counties in the U.S. euthanize cats and dogs on a regular basis. I only know of one county in California that sterilizes strays and releases them. I personally prefer this method over euthanasia, but for some places it may be an issue of cost.

Did I get carried away?
No, but the puppies got carried away by the river.

Seriously though, this is just sad. That woman deserves whatever punishment she will get for doing that. :(

I can understand a small fine for just killing an animal and tapeing it, but this is cruelty, plain and simple. She deserves at least a large fine.

That's the exact same concept as throwing puppies into a river.

Eh, would people really be upset if it was hamsters? Lizards? Insects?

It's a different culture (from U.S.), they prolly have different moral codes regarding what rights what kind of animals have.

Even though it might be more culturally acceptable to harm animals than in the US, she's still getting fined, which means at least that her government finds it unacceptable. Idk if you can try and pull the culture card too much here, especially cause Serbia is very industrialized at this point.

But you probably don't have idiots in their country like PETA who want to literally kill the girl for it. US is a platform for extremists though, so the loudest people aren't the ones who actually are representative of the whole. Point being, I feel like the Serbian public and the US public would react to this about the same

You'd knock someone out for talking about your dog? C'mon dude. It's not like the dog is gonna get offended by someone's remark.

And 5 years in prison for each puppy? Jesus! There are too many people in prisons as it is.
she's 13, getting old, ive had her since i can remember. i care about her more than my cousins, grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc.

it's like killing a person. if youve had a dog you would understand.

Stuffed prisons should not alleviate felons' disciplinary punishments.
agreed.

agreed.
I have a dog and dogs are not like people. Sorry, but a dog's life is not equal to ANY human's, no matter how much you project onto them.

It would just come to a point of how much sentimental value there is. Some are more close than others. That is all.

This is a new one. Not surprised it happened though.

The person who was video taping this is almost as bad as the ****** girl imo btw.
He/she probably supported this little puppy murder activity. And if not, then they definitely did nothing to stop it from happening!

Maybe they were unwanted and would have been put down regardless.

 I'm not exactly an 'animal rights' kinda guy.

If you knew you were going to die, "regardless", would you pick painful asphyxiation in water, or being shot in the head and dying quickly?

It's the same concept.

I agree completely. Not to mention these were puppies, which i highly doubt hurt anyone, and they were young and innocent. Does anyone know what the penalty for this in the US would be?

I don't want to watch the video, because I know I'd regret it, but I hope they catch the person and lock her up.

You're becoming increasingly apathetic to events surrounding you due to exposure, it happens.

Why are humans so cruel.
No, humans are cruel ****s because we had to be to reach the top of the food chain. For umpteen thousand years it was megafauna/predators that were doing that to tus, so in response we became stupidly aggressive and made weapons so that we killed everything alot better than they could kill us, thus getting off alot of thing's menus.

Its an instinctual thing to be cruel, as it helped us live. Unfortunatley alot of peope cannot supress this urge well enough not to be a douche to their fellow being now that natural selection is for the most part not an issue.

RIFLES ARE USELESS
Actually we developed the ability to detect cause and effect and therefore avoid predators, that's why humans never went out to go hunt tigers or bears or lions for food, we just went after big dumb hairy things without fangs.

While true, predators still tried to get at us, and when that occured, usually a good spear is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>lion/tiger/bear/smilodon/Giant ground Sloth on crack

that and our insane sense of fear would probably had us proactivley going out to kill predators that were in our terrirtories, deeming them as monsters that need to be slain
