The Dragon Quest XI Switch port part starts in (around) and hour and a half. That's the part with the "Special Guest" that we should be on the lookout for. I'm sure that Geno will come out of this unscathed though.

Separate franchises same company. Dragon Quest is still a Squeenix franchise and the composer for DQ still very much works for the company. Whatever character is dlc, you support the company, and the company hires the composer. If you can't isolate this one person from the franchise then you can't isolate him from the company that gives him his job

Alright, so I replayed the bit of SMRPG from the beginnings of Kero Sewers to the beginning of Rose Way, and here are my thoughts -

Playing this again after all of this speculation is relaxing and calming, especially when my winter break has just begun.

The music in the game takes me back. Back back. It's suspenseful, yet soothing. Kero Sewers is a maze of pipes and rats, boos, shadows, goblins, and kipps. Sometimes a rat comes at you out of nowhere, then starts the battle by poisoning you (ugh). The boos and the goblins try to distract you or put you to sleep. Trolls they are. The shadows....what do they do again? They are too slow to attack you, because you defeated it before it had a chance to (lmao). The kipps are a bunch o' jokes. So weak and easy to block.

The battle theme is upbeat and pleasing as ever. This, Mother 1, Earthbound, and Mother 3 all have it. One of the best parts of the comforting best-to-play-on-the-breaks games. When you get the hang of it, Mario's super jump is kinda broken. Mallow's thunderbolt is too, kinda.

Now, Belome. The hungry beast who turns people into scarecrows and eats people, but spits them out afterwards. Trolls you by enabling the water to flush you out of the sewers.

Now, the Midas River course. Mini-games where you can collect frog coins and regular coins, and you can trade the regular coins in for frog coins. I like it, and I then obtain the NokNok shell. I love the shell weapons.

I meet Frogfucious, who can totally hover in the air on his own. He tells you about your adventure so far, creating emphasis on Exor slamming into Bowser's Keep. When he finishes explaining, he asks you if you want him to recap again, and all I have to say is sorry to those who are unfortunate enough to hit "sure."

He finishes explaining everything, only to unveil one of the biggest secrets of the game......

MALLOW IS NOT A TADPOLE

Mallow is shocked at the news that was kept from him. However, he was determined to join Mario for his journey, the journey to not only save Princess Peach, but to try and figure out who the Smithy gang is and what the star pieces are for. They are about to set off on their long journe-

Wait! You almost forgot to give Frogfucious the Cricket Pie! You give him the Cricket Pie, and he rewards you with Mallow's first weapon - the Froggie stick!
Now Mario and Mallow are ready to continue their journey, where they head into Rose Way, and follow the path of starfish, snapdragons, and shy guys with slingshots.

This is going to be a fun playthrough of Super Mario RPG

I've seen the main posts from some of the people like Vergeben, Xenother, and Polar, suggesting that it's a DQ rep getting in. However, I'm totally lost on the 4Chan leak that claimed a bunch of fighters. Could someone please enlighten about what was said in that post and what new news as a whole we've been receiving recently? I would greatly appreciate it!

I don't remember it specifically, but I think it was just mentioning that Joker was going to be playable (which we already new), and it claimed the Eddy would be the 2nd DLC character, and mentioned the stage he would bring with him

Nothing to worry about though, since Polar said that no one knows the DLC

We're still in this race. They had a gift wrapped opportunity to announce it (a literal ****ing envelope on stage) and they blew it. I don't think DQ is in guy's.... gut feeling.

So, it's best to stop expecting things to happen at events that don't have much, if anything, to do with Nintendo. Even if something were to happen, the killswitch is short enough this time.



Besides, Sugiyama is really old at this point, right? Been around since the 30s. He probably won't be there for too much longer.

Regardless of anything, his music is good, no matter what the gripes most people out there have with him.

On this topic, for example, I do find it a pity that Earthworm Jim's creator is a devout Christian. Does that keep me from liking his stuff? Of course not, it's silly to do otherwise.

I'm going to be honest here: most of the Smash hype/speculation cycles have been cruel to me, mainly refering to Smash 4 DLC era. Bayo crushed all my hopes for Shovel Knight then, i was pretty sad about it, but i've moved on since then (i'm happy he made it as an AT!). But this repeated itself post-K Rool era, where every reveal was pretty mediocre at best and underwhelming at worst in my opinion. I just for once want to get one of my most wanted characters in, but i shouldn't be hopeful.....

If Erdrick gets in, so be it. We can't do anything about it then, but we shouldn't eat it all up and defend it blindly either, everyone has their opinion on it after all. Do i think he's in? Not really, but who knows: this is Square we're talking about.

My stance on Geno at the moment? I still think he's not in the best place right now, i really need to see another DLC fighter to decide my final judgement on him. I'm still hoping we get him though.

Off-topic bonus, i'm probably going to play SMRPG along side other games like Chrono Trigger, DBZ Legendary Super Warriors and more in my winter break.

Yeah, like, whoever it is, Geno or not, this is killing me. At the very least, I've kept my expectations for Geno very low and my expectations for Erdrick high, as for me, Geno would personally be the more hype of the two options. Again, totally personal, not at all against Erdrick and his fans or anything.

All I want at this point is his hecking Mii costume. C'mon, gimme at least the facsimile of my boy being playable and I'll be sated enough.

Ooooh, thanks for the info, Fatman! Smash or not, I always look forward to Nintendo Directs. Maybe it's the Nintendo kid in me speaking from all those years ago up until now, but they always make me giddy. Whenever a Direct comes around, I'm extremely happy, even if nothing I particularly care for gets announced.

I'm... I'm pretty easily satisfied, I guess...?

That being said, I can't say I'm sure we'd get more Smash info in terms of Fighter's Pass beyond Piranha Plant's release date and probably more info on Joker. Otherwise, who else is betting on Mii costume DLC being announced then? I think that's very likely.

I don't think Smash DLC reveal being there is a weird, difficult, impossible, or unlikely thing at all, on the contrary, i think it makes the most sense we get another reveal there, specially because they want people to buy the season pass more than just the characters individually, so it's always good to keep the reveals going on a certain pace, and we know we don't need gameplay reveals to get people excited, for example, Joker's. I would say stay hyped for January direct, it literally happens every year (except 2016 i think), just check the wikipedia list of directs so far, it's usually after the 10th, but who knows if it will be earlier this time, or after that date as usual, but definitely around those days.

Totally true, I agree. That being said, given the pacing of Smash 4 DLC reveals and the proposed end date for this Fighter's Pass, it may also be rather early to expect the second DLC character so soon. There's things going for and against it, so... it's really a huge wait and see thing. Don't rule anything out, y'all!

Thing is, Polar's source, afaik, has not heard anything about Erdrick. It's been Vergeben (leaning, not definite on Erdrick), Hitagi, and Xenother. Polar's source has still only heard Geno as a water cooler rumor and nothing further, as well as that no one knows the DLC.

Polar Panda's source pretty much knows Nintendo Directs word for word within a few days of them coming out and is honestly his strongest ammunition when it comes to inside information. The current speculation is during the first week of January because of how long it's been since a general Direct but we'll see.

I'm not expecting a Smash reveal in January, at least for a brand new character. Spring is when we're probably gonna get our next reveal as far as new characters go and I'm not expecting the Square rep regardless of who it is until later that year. January seems like the time they'll announce when Joker will be released rather than a totally new character.

Personally if we're getting any first parties, I think they're most likely gonna get announced next in a spring direct. Just my two cents though.
