They should put a shrunken slightly nerfed master hand in the game as the next Piranha Plant-esque fighter. I'd play the **** out of that.

I mean, I don't make animations or run a YouTube channel so, yes, by comparison, I am a bit of a slackass.
Everyone's a Geno supporter. No one's a slackass :)
Everyone does their part, they do videos, we give them videos views and subscribes.

Attention all Super Mario RPG fans! Geno needs your help! He's trying to get accepted into the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate fight, and there are only 4 chances left! All he needs to brawl with the all-stars are the numbers on your credit card, the expiration month and year, and the three numbers on the back!

Yeah, I still doubt it's gonna happen there.

While Nintendo does make announcements (rarely) outside of Directs/their own events, it only happens at the VGAs and that one time at EVO, and they had a public presence at both; there's nothing about them being at Jump Festa.

This is like when I thought they'd announce Minecraft stuff in Smash at Minecon and I was silly to think so.
Nintendo of Japan are actually hosting a tournament at Jump Festa. The livesteam just started actually.
Still, we shouldn't expect a reveal (and we shouldn't want one here either).

I would just like to point out the possibility that we could get all 5 characters revealed by e3. The direct said they'd all be released by 2020, but that seems more like insurance than anything. "If you buy the fighter pass, you'll DEFINITELY have them all by this point," and the part that is all but implied is, "but probably sooner." The way I see it, in January we're going to get a direct where Piranha Plant is available immediately after, they show off Joker a bit, and they reveal one character, saying Joker/#2 is going to be released later. A few months later, Joker/#2 are released, along with #3 being shown off. Then at E3, they blow us all out of the water. They reveal #4 and #5, and then say #3/#4/#5 are all available at the end of that presentation. This would mirror Smash 4 DLC pretty well.

Bonus points if they announce a second fighter pack at E3 or a few months after E3.
But that doesn’t make any sense, why claim Feb 2020 if they’re planning to have them all ready by Summer 2019?

That is a good point. Still though, I wouldn't count Joker being anime along with Eddy and Lloyd a problem due to his unique moveset potential, Sakurai being a Persona 5 fan, and his popularity and I wouldn't count Lloyd along with Eddy and Joker as a problem due to the same things with Joker - unique moveset potential, support for Smash, and Sakurai's view of him.

Eddy would be a huge issue. He doesn't have support for smash, global appeal, or moveset potential. I would just be dumbfounded if Sakurai chose him over Geno due to the reasons I have mentioned in this post and working with the companies and the composer, especially when Geno is one of the most supported Smash characters, Sakurai's interest of bringing him to the roster, and Sakurai and Nintendo already obtaining the rights to him
As someone who supports Lloyd, Erdrick’s moveset potential is just as good, if not better.

They should put a shrunken slightly nerfed master hand in the game as the next Piranha Plant-esque fighter. I'd play the **** out of that.
There shouldn’t ever be a next Piranha Plant.

I say Lloyd because he wields two swords, so he isn't your typical swordsman who slashes with one sword. I haven't played ToS, but I imagine he can follow up attacks with one sword with the other. I don't see anything like this for Eddy.

I even thought Crono wouldn't be a very unique addition, but Fatmanonice Fatmanonice brought up things that would make him unique. For instance, he uses a katana, something the roster doesn't have yet. I'll quote Fatman's post from the SE thread:

Because I suck, I wanted to jump on this post. Sora's definitely unique. The keyblade is not like your typical sword. For one thing, note Sora's low to the ground, goofy (hyuck) *** stance with it. Right off the bat that's significantly different than any other sword users. Second, the way Sora fights with the keyblade is honestly more like a baseball bat than a sword. It's not really a cutting weapon, it's a club and in concept it's practically a bat with nails hammered into the head of it. Third, the way Sora fights with it is very up close and personal. Sliding, gliding, paries, quick action options, and even regularly levitating and throwing the damn thing. You could completely leave out his drives and magic and he'd still be incredibly unique as a "sword" using character.

Crono uses a katana which is something Smash doesn't have yet. Everything else is a broad sword aside from the Pits. That said, it's right off the bat a different stance and different way of swinging the sword. I'd argue that magic isn't a huge focus of Crono and the only way they'd probably implement it is possibly Luminare as a final Smash. Special moves that don't involve magic, you have cyclone, slash, spincut, and confuse which honestly could probably just transfer as his Smash special moves with cyclone being standard, slash being his forward special, spincut as a recovery, and confuse as a counter. From there, they could possibly figure out a way to implement the dual and triple attacks from Chrono Trigger but, again, it's not totally necessary because its easy to make him unique with surface level stuff you can see in a one minute clip.
- Lloyd wields two swords, something no one on the roster does (except maybe the Pits, but it's debatable)
- Crono wields a katana, another thing the roster doesn't have yet
- Sora wields the Keyblade, essentially a club-like sword-key

What can Eddy do? What unique attributes does he have? What can he bring to the roster other than what Link and Robin bring?

Placeholder/buffer date. Plain and simple, especially if we may get a potential second wave I'd dlc or dlc other then the pass contents.
Or that is just the date for them all to be released. They could announce it before Feb 2020 but have it ready at that time

As a safety net, basically. Imagine if their goal was to release all 5 by E3, but then development takes longer than they thought, so they end up disappointing people who thought it'd come out by E3. If they say it'll come out by 2020, then you can only ever surprise people in a good way by releasing them early.

It'd be like if I said "I'm making a remix of Geno's theme, it'll be done by Saturday for sure" and then put it out on Friday. If I had said it'd be out on thursday, I'd make everyone upset who was looking forward to it by posting it on friday.

Btw I AM FINALLY ON WINTER BREAK THANK GOODNESS
Same. I work at a University so I'm off until January 2nd. Basically it's the only time of the year when my social obligations evaporate and I play video games 7-8 hours a day. Aside from Christmas with my parents, almost every day is a Pants Optional ® day and it's absolutely glorious. Because I'm dumb, I whittle down my back catalogue and then use some of my Christmas money to buy more games. Got a Christmas bonus this year so the temptation will be even worse.

Like I said before, I wouldn’t get too worried about a possible reveal at jump festa. It’s not even been a month since joker’s, and if they were gonna do a reveal of anything in smash, they would not be so quiet about it in the west. They would have had some sort of hints and/hype building on their Twitter saying stuff like “make sure to watch jump festa in Japan for some exciting Nintendo news” or something.

They’re wanting to incentivize everyone to get the fighter pass, by staying silent before just suddenly revealing a character with no warning, that kinda breaks that goal.

I want DQ to get BTFO so bad now...
Nah, just let the DQ fans enjoy it if it comes to pass. I know, Sugiyama is human trash but it's not important to a lot of people. His views are despicable but people defend terrible people all the time. It's a losing battle. It's best to just connect with people who agree with you on that, not go after the DQ fans. If it's important to you, organize the willing and go from there.

I just wish people realized it's a bit more important than getting their character into a fighting game.

None of the DQ fans are defending him, just that they don't want to let one apple spoil the entire tree.
They can act like the one apple didn't spoil the tree, but he is near the top. He is getting paid probably just a little under the person who actually created DQ. If the tree is rotten, you still throw away the bad apples..... I'm aware I can't make analogies like Fatmanonice Fatmanonice

But the tree is not rotten, it's just the one apple. How can the tree be rotten when it still produce so many good apples?

This coming from the guy who suggested harassing Square to get Geno into Smash?

Also, why shouldn't DQ fans get to enjoy victory? Imagine if things were switched and it were Geno with the terrible guy attached. Would that make you disown him then?

Imagine if DQ fans acted this way if Geno were looking likely.

I personally see it as "separate the art from the artist," although I won't lie, I would be bothered if something I like was created by a bad/seemingly bad person, but that wouldn't make me stop liking what I like.

However, that's just it: if it's created by said person, not simply associated with, and even then it's simply a game/object that they made, which isn't harming anyone.

I remember seeing a couple or so people bashing A Hat in Time because JonTron voiced a minor character; although to be fair it was said that he also insulted one of the artists since they were Black and the game's directors didn't do anything so idk, maybe they were jerks...

Honestly; I'd probably disown Geno, or at least have to give it a sincere think over. I do NOT take things like what that man said lightly.

Winter break is just the perfect time to play Mario RPG. The music and the game in general is so comforting

I honestly can't see Erdrick getting in at this point. Nintendo has no real reason to try and help Dragon Quest be successful in the west. With Corrin's addition, it was a Nintendo property. The only semi-feasible way I could see Nintendo trying to promote DQ is a deal with Squenix to have exclusivity on a new Dragon Quest, and that'll never happen (I would think). Not to mention how much more of a hassle that it'd be than Geno. If Nintendo was focused on making the most possible money, it'd make sense. With Geno, they only have to deal with Square, they can get music easier due to Yoko Shimomura's involvement already, and, Geno is technically a Mario character. On principle alone, he'd sell more because of an existing fan base within Smash.

I'm going to put it this way when it comes to DQ making it, what we're for and against, and heckling Square about anything:

Think about what Geno, the benevolent wish-granting angel, would want you to do. Would he want you behaving so negatively about this? Not at all. If someone else's wishes were granted and not yours, behave maturely. Be the you that Geno would want you to be.

I mean if you want to go with that kind of rhetoric; would Geno approve of what that composer said? I find this type of argument mostly pointless; cause it deals largely with hypotheticals. I get where you're coming from... but that kinda stuff just doesn't work with me.

sorry that reminded me that comic tho..

Anyways, Yeah. If Erdrick ends to be true, be respectful, we already surpassed this in the past.

It's ok, you can hate Sugiyama, but not the DQ fanbase or something, try to find the best way TO YOU. Don't care about what the others have to say about it.
About to fight Belome. Wish me luck
Good luck :D

I mean Square Enix continues to hire this same composer don't they. SE also owns Geno. Does that not make them apart of the same tree just rather far from each other?

This is like when I thought they'd announce Minecraft stuff in Smash at Minecon and I was silly to think so.
This situation reminded me of that exact occurrence.

So, it's best to stop expecting things to happen at events that don't have much, if anything, to do with Nintendo. Even if something were to happen, the killswitch is short enough this time.

I personally see it as "separate the art from the artist," although I won't lie, I would be bothered if something I like was created by a bad/seemingly bad person, but that wouldn't make me stop liking what I like.

Besides, Sugiyama is really old at this point, right? Been around since the 30s. He probably won't be there for too much longer.

Regardless of anything, his music is good, no matter what the gripes most people out there have with him.

On this topic, for example, I do find it a pity that Earthworm Jim's creator is a devout Christian. Does that keep me from liking his stuff? Of course not, it's silly to do otherwise.

Guys, let's not keep talking about the composer. I think we should all relax and play a game of Super Mario RPG! That's what I am doing, and I think everyone else should too :)

The spell Boom which literally causes an explosion? Maybe monster fighting? A class system? I dunno, to be honest I don’t expect anyone to be convinced of anything unless Fatmanonice says it.

But with that argument, you could say Pit and Dark Pit basically wield two blades, or that a katana wouldn’t play any differently than a normal sword, or that the Keyblade would be functionally identical to any battering item. It’s not in the execution.

Look at Cloud’s moveset. If I were to describe it in theory, it’s a projectile, an upward slash, a multislash and a charge for other attacks. You might as well say it’s very derivative of Marth, with Up-B and Side-B being nearly identical in concept. In practice, though, it doesn’t feel that way. It’s all in the execution.
