Hero came out with 3 costumes, all of them were Square. So we can assume that if Geno’s costume were to come back now, it would be with the next Square character. Seeing his numbers on the polls, they either have to upgrade him as a fighter or just bring back the costume. Because I doubt Geno performed poorly in terms of his costume sales.

And now that my birthday's over, it's time to commend the fallen. Today is the actual 2 year anniversary of the Grinch Leak which is not poggers.

And even without it, our hopes were restored when the Mii Fighter costume failed to return, and we've gone through 7 full waves without a single hint of its return. Sorry, a bit late to this conversation, but the thing about Mii costumes, “Deluxe” or otherwise, is that they’re characters that weren’t going to get in as a fully playable character, for one reason or another. They’re not going to put in a Geno costume if they want to put Geno in proper, they’re going to put in a Geno costume if they can’t (or they simply don’t want to) put him in.

They’re not saying, “Well, we could put him in, but let’s just make him a Mii costume instead”, they would hypothetically be saying, “Well, if we’re not able to make Geno a fully playable fighter due to [REDACTED], we can at least make him a Mii costume for his fans.” So the “slap in the face” ideology just seems silly to me.

And saying that Geno can’t become a Deluxe costume because he already had a regular one is, well... it’s ironic that this thread of all places is making up fanrules, after what we dealt with pre-Min Min. The only real “evidence” that it can’t happen is that it hasn’t happened yet, which is exactly the same as what the “Spirits deconfirm” crowd had.

Of course you're not a fake fan. The notion of "fake fan" to start with is silly. All you need to be a fan of something is genuine love for it , nothing more , nothing less.

I think the "slap in the face" mentality is more so linked to how Hero was the perfect opportunity to reveal Geno's mii costume , and ever since then , he avoided every mii wave. Sakurai is very aware of the fan demand for Geno , and he made the mii costume to offer something for the fans.
SE have not refused Sakurai when he asked for the mii costume in Sm4sh , as well as Geno and Mallow's artworks for spirits in the base game of Ultimate. So if we follow that logic , if Nintendo/Sakurai ask for the costume , they don't have any reason to say no , it would generate even more profit for them.
Wich mean that Sakurai didn't asked for the costume for one reason or another , despise giving it the red carpet treatment in Sm4sh , almost treating him like a new fighter.

With Geno avoiding every mii wave since 2019 , being one of the 5 costumes remaining out of like , more than 20... It really make us wonder more and more where he is. So if we wait this long just to get the costume again it would be... Pretty anticlimatic , ngl.

I don't want to defend all the people that offer extreme takes when it come to that , but I admit that getting the costume again , with those circonstances in mind... Would be a bit disapointing for several active supporters.

It doesn't mean that Sakurai and the dev team "hate us and love laughing at our suffering" , not at all , it would mean that they couldn't get the character for X or Y reason , and gave us the costume instead so we still have something.

In the end , I agree that treating it as a "slap to the face" is silly , rather , it would be anticlimatic for a lot of people.

Personnaly , despise only being a 2 years long supporter , Geno as a character means a lot to me , and he's pretty much the only reason I stick around in the speculation circle. I'm really invested in this character , and his history with Smash is just fascinating to me , there's really no other character with the same situation as him... So his inclusion would feel very special to me. A lot of characters would make me happy (Rayman , Midna , and so on) but I'm fine if they don't make the cut.
In the end , I just don't want to settle with a mii costume for Geno , I personnaly want to see this lil' guy finally make it in after so many years.

However , it's completely fair to not want that and simply want the costume to return , and maybe be upgraded.

I personally share that same mindeset when it comes to characters getting Mii costumes. If a character couldn’t make it in as a fully fledged fighter, then a really nice Mii costume was probably the next best thing the Smash team could achieve.

If Geno was made into a Mii costume I would understand, but it would still sting. I think that’s what people mean by that scenario being a “slap in the face”. We’ve gone through 7 challenger packs so far, and a Geno Mii costume has not appeared in a single one. Not even during Hero’s presentation, when it would’ve been the most oppurtune time to reveal one.

I think it would just hurt a lot more if Geno was made into a Mii costume after all this time. A lot of people would've preferred the band-aid to be ripped off sooner if that scenario comes to pass.

I think getting a really nice Mii costume with a bonus remix would be nice, and you’re not a “fake fan” for being happy with that. However, I think a lot of people here would rather not settle for a consultation prize again, myself included. That’s probably a big reason as to why the possible notion of Geno being mii costume’d again gets people upset.

Now, as we've extensively tracked in this thread, the situation is totally different and why the expectations for Smash 4 and Ultimate don't have to be the same.

Europe got shafted in term of translation , so they could focus on that.

However , I don't see them translating a full RPG , just for a 6 dollars eshop limited re-release of a SNES game.

That November 2018 direct for Smash was so disappointing. The only redeeming factors were World of Lights reveal, the announcement of DLC, and Pirahnna Plant's reveal. Everything else was so boring and felt like pointless padding.

It was the longest Smash Direct to date, and many thought that they wouldn't have all that time just for Ken, Incineroar, Adventure Mode and possible DLC news. And yet that's exactly what happened. Its the only Smash segment/Direct I never rewatched. It was THAT disappointing (granted I was going through bad things at the time, so that only made the disappointment worse). Also why Plant.... ugh.

You know the funny thing about the Grinch Fake? One of the key arguments against it was that people felt that they wouldn't reveal all those characters after Sakurai said how we shouldn't expect many newcomers. At no point was it considered that the fake leak could have been the DLC content as a possibility (which after the fact we know was wrong too, but rarely did Team Real or Team Fake bring that up as an option, which is odd).

I won't lie, when Geno's Mii Outfit from Smash 4 was revealed, I was more excited than I was disappointed. While I did wanna see Geno playable, and while I did think the Mii Outfit from Smash 4 was the "final nail in the coffin" towards his chances, it was extremely exciting for me because Geno's outfit was revealed at a time when we weren't really aware just how loud our support really was, nor were we really aware about Square and Nintendo's relationship at the time. Back then, a Square Enix rep sounded like such a huge pipe dream and if you were to bring up an idea for a Square Enix rep, most people would probably laugh at you. That's exactly why Cloud Strife broke the internet in half when he was revealed, because a Square rep, at the time, seemed like an impossible task to do and the madman somehow pulled it off. While we didn't get Geno as that first rep, I was still stoked to see Cloud in Smash that it gave me hope for a future Smash game.

That is, until we got that Geno Mii Outfit, and I so wish I had my reaction to that. As soon as I heard the Beware The Forest's Mushrooms track, I lost my mind. I never thought Geno would ever be acknowledged by the man himself, but somehow, he knew of his support, and even though he wasn't able to get Geno in as a character, he was able to give us the Mii Outfit for a consolation prize, and it felt so surreal to me. I know many of you have talked on and on about how the Mii Outfit was one of the worst things that's ever happened to us, but honestly, it only increased the support base my a whole lot more and it got even more people talking about Geno, and as I said, I never even thought Sakurai would ever acknowledge us, let alone WANT him himself and try to get him included. So while Geno's outfit essentially deconfirmed him, it really was only the beginning of what his support base is nowadays.

And for all these reasons, its kinda why I dread every single presentation hoping we don't get the Mii Outfit back. As I said, back in Smash 4, the Geno outfit was incredibly exciting to me for numerous reasons I already explained. The Geno outfit, to me, was an all new horizon for us since now this proved that Sakurai was aware of the demand, and now that we're in Ultimate speculation, we already know that Sakurai tried getting Geno in before and knows of the demand, so now the next step I wanna see is playable Geno. Sakurai already gave us our totally unexpected consolation prize, and now I'm ready for the payoff.

Ya see.... Incineroar is actually my favorite Fire starter Pokemon.... I sometimes feel like the only person who loves Incineroar, seeing not only the Vergeben leaks but also the reveal vid actually showing him off, I quite loved him and now he's like, my #1 main with Hero close behind.

He's basically EXPRESSLY DESIGNED to upset people and I AM HERE FOR IT! Prior to (official non-leaked) reveal, people had this idea that Litten was gonna turn into a fiery sabertooth tiger like Kilala from Inuyasha or something... NOPE! He turns into a PRO WRESTLER, a HEEL no less, aka he goes out of his way to be a complete jerk! The Pokemon website even claimed that when fighting he sometimes doesn't even distinguish between Pokemon or Trainer, he's coming after ALL OF YOU. People claimed they did not like the martial arts themed Fire starters and bipedal Fire starters and Incineroar, almost INTENTIONALLY, is exactly that barring the Fighting typing. The muttonchop whiskers, the jerkish "love me or get smashed" Heel wrestler personality... it's so much like he was EXPRESSLY MADE to defy expectations and for me, it WORKS and I LOVE IT! He's definitely one of my favorites in Smash. Even in Smash, he's posing after every move playing into that jerk personality of his. There's one of them that I have to double take because I keep thinking he's flipping someone off, but nope he's just sticking up his POINTER finger.

And true to his whole "expressly designed to upset/defy expectations" thing, people were like ON THE WAGON for Decidueye the resident "Cool Man McCool" of the three starters. People were so sure it was gonna be him, especially after he was added to Pokken DX instead of Incineroar... NOPE! INCINEROAR! Whether you like him or not haha!

I think it's a good time to watch (or rewatch) the following video.

This morning I was watching it and when they begun with the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate segment, one can truly see how past character choices that had been considered but were not at the time able to be implemented, ultimately made it into Smash's latest installment. Again, in regards to Geno it doesn't feel like a matter of "if" but a matter of "when", and the timing of his reveal seems to be coming together within the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary (which next year will overlap in a way with the beginning of SMRPG's 25th Anniversary).

Ehhhhh I like seeing the bullies lose. I'm mean like that haha but don't ACTUALLY eat the crows, those are good birds, I'm friends with many of them (VERY intelligent birds, they CAN individually recognize certain people and will warn other crows about bad people. They're very interesting, you should research them.)

But yeah, I consider Super Mario RPG to be one of the best games of all time. Played it as a kid all the way back on SNES and both then and now, there's something about that game that just feels "right". To me, Opinion Hill Zone, the other Mario RPGs largely just haven't clicked with me in that way. SMRPG has the magic for me. I'm all for SMRPG getting the Star (road) Treatment.

I admit I was off put at first when he first leaked, but I eventually came around. And seeing him in motion helped exponentially. And smash? Forget about it. Easily the Pokémon with the most personality in Ultimate.

I've stopped caring about Partner Showcases or Mini Directs as its shown that Smash news will not be a part of them in any form.

So, if the global poll is strictly followed. In terms of who isn’t in, or deconfirmed by AT. Going off that, then our final four characters would be Bandana Waddle Dee, Paper Mario, Shantae and Geno.

Due to Origami King's spirit event , I think PM is out of the picture. And with how PM went from "Cute chibi Mario with RPG elements" to "funny paper man" , I dunno if Sakurai could have found a way to make everyone happy with his moveset , especially with Nintendo making us forget the OG trilogy.
A composite moveset could work (hell , I made one myself lol) but I dunno what direction they would take with him.

Sorry if it sound like gatekeeping , PM's situation is one that I find to be very tricky compared to other first party characters. But trust me , I love good ol' PM , even tho I didn't played SS and TOK , haha.

However , the other 3 are fair game imo.

I find it funny that AT are treated as deconfirms for later DLCs tho , when Sakurai considered Spring-Man , and that they already have a 3D model to work with.

They're normally on the last full week in the month, September was a exception thanks to Pokemon and Smash.
