Am I the only one who thinks that Geno could be a Bonus DLC?
I honestly don't rule out at least one bonus character, especially since supposedly Joker, Hero, and Banjo were all in development last December, honestly leaving a giant 14 month hole for at least two characters to begin development.
Going back to my E3/EVO talk yesterday, I wanted to go a little more in-depth with it.
E3 2013- it had Villager, MegaMan, and Wii Fit.
- Villager was significant because it was a character that Sakurai originally said wasn't going to happen.
-MegaMan was, well, MegaMan. Even back in the Melee days, it was a regular debate of who the first third party character to come to Smash would be. Obviously, the two main camps were Sonic and MegaMan. A lot of people figured that if one got in, the other would soon follow which is why Megaman's absence in Brawl was particularly salt inducing.
-Wii Fit was a "buffer" and character that probably would have been received poorly if they hadn't been announced next to one of the biggest reveals in Smash history.
E3 2014- it had Miis, Palutena, and Pac-Man.
-The Miis were controversial but nobody denied that they had a ton of demand, especially among more casual crowds. I feel like they were the buffer character of that E3.
-Palutena was not only a popular character but one of the few that most of the Smash fanbase agreed was going to happen.
-Pac-Man was another character that was considered virtually a lock once MegaMan got in. Incredibly iconic, and despite some controversy, was another character that most people didn't argue about being deserving.
Post EVO 2014- it had Robin and Lucina.
-Following the Fire Emblem arguments during the Smash 4 days was interesting. Chrom was considered a lock, Lucina was very popular, and Robin was kind of niche but the demand was still there. Robin was arguably one of the most niche Smash fan picks in Smash 4.
E3 2015- it had Lucas, Roy, and Ryu. Sakurai said that Mewtwo, Lucas, and Roy were the most demanded veterans so that simply explains. Ryu was yet another big third party icon and pretty much "Mr. Fighting Games" himself. It was really no surprise that their wasn't an EVO announcement that year based on this.
E3 2018- it had Daisy, Ridley, and all the returning veterans. I really don't have to go into why this was a huge deal. Daisy and Ridley were both characters that had demand pretty much since the beginning of the series.
Post EVO 2018- it Simon, Richter, Dark Samus, K. Rool, and Chrom. Simon was a big icon while Richter is one of the most niche picks in Smash history. Dark Samus and Chrom were both previously rejected characters that Sakurai added because of fan demand. K. Rool pretty has the same story as Daisy and Ridley.
E3 2019- it had Hero and Banjo.
-Hero was kind of a buffer character as the general reaction to him was just kind of a blank faced "oh" and "who?" Once I say him and just sort of the general "despair" and apathy on different boards and comment sections, I all but knew Banjo was going to close out the Direct.
-Banjo doesn't need to be explained. If you've been here for the speculation cycle of this game, you know exactly why it was an enormous deal to Smash fans.
