Anyway, no matter how Shantae originated, she is still a pretty notable indie in the community. Really just shows the power of independent development, as it can not only make new successful IP's, but also revive old ones.

You know, this situation is kind of annoying but maybe it's for the best. Everyone is expecting a Hero drop, not a whole lot of people are expecting something at EVO. I guess both could happen (even though I think it's kind of dumb). Robin's reveal was pretty much a surprise and so was the Smash Direct EVO announcement last year so I guess it would be in tune with what's happened before. Either way, we still have to wait on the Hero drop to get a conclusive grasp of what Geno's remaining chances are and I'm still confident on something at EVO but I don't know what.
Hero drops July 29th at 5:14AM mid-west time with a handdrawn picture uploaded that's Geno's playable splash screen.

Also, Boshi is an echo of K Rool because screw you logic.

Twist... Banjo is released before Hero :p

I don’t really get why people get fussy over indies.

They’re all videogame characters, I doubt Sakurai or Nintendo are gonna choose one to represent them all instead of treating them like other videogames. Yes, they come from a small dev team/company, so yes, Nintendo has a special Direct to give them attention, but I doubt there’s gonna be some strict “one indie character per Smash game” rule, or that Shovel Knight would somehow steal Shantae’s spot or vice-versa.

I also find it funny when Undertale isn’t taken seriously by someone when Nintendo has acknowledged it like other indies, as well as giving it and Deltarune their own spots in a main direct instead of a Nindies direct; but oh well, we all have our own ideas in speculation.
Indies get treated like the poor people in a social caste, while AAA properties are the rich people. Always gotta be tribalism of some sort when both kinds of characters have merit. Steve in particular managed to completely and utterly blur the lines, burn them and then wash them away with water, once Minecraft was bought by Microsoft.

Anyway, no matter how Shantae originated, she is still a pretty notable indie in the community. Really just shows the power of independent development, as it can not only make new successful IP's, but also revive old ones.
You can say that WayForward has enough dev experience to actually take advantage of such a status (alongside their usual side job of making licensed games for quick bucks as always), compared to many newbies not realising just how difficult it actually is. Few companies are able to sustain themselves, and even fewer can last as long as they did.

TLDR; WF didn't correct anybody when people assumed they were an indie rather than a middle-tier developer, and they decided to just run with it.

Ironically in pre-DLC speculation I’ve actually seen people be afraid that Steve would steal Shantae’s slot because “Minecraft was an indie.”

It’s all kinda annoying.

Interesting thing about WF and their licensed games, they are a notable company that puts actual effort into their licensed games. Seriously, the Mummy Demastered is a much better game than the movie it is based off of, and they helped out with the DuckTales Remaster as well. They treat those games as games first, licensed products second. Of course, it is all so they could fund there own independent passion products, but it is still very respectable.

While good licensed games aren't uncommon, WF are very consistent at doing them. There barely are any they did that can be considered duds, and that's admirable in itself. WF takes their craft and passion seriously.

Goalposts, they exist only to be moved by people who don't know any better.

So sis is in a Koma... Oh goodie.
I’m so sorry to hear that. We’re here in the thread to support you in whatever ways we can and I’m sure many of us are available to talk privately if you need/want it. I don’t know you super well, but do believe that I’m absolutely serious about that and I’m sure many here share that opinion and care. Especially with how much life seems to have thrown at you as of recent that you’ve shared here.

I wish you all the best in the coming days and maybe we’ll get some good news for Geno that can at least bring a little light if the situation itself does not see improvement.

Hmm...how many pages did the original Brawl Geno thread go on for again? I think we've made this thread at least twice that by now.

I don’t think hero is today tbh...

Gamexplain did a video about a japanese 7/11 ad that makes me feel hero really is more likely on the 4th....

Could be on the 31st if not August 2nd, it’d make sense to have the ad up for a bit after Hero is actually released.

Sabi is hopefully correct about it not being after next week.

It has to be either today or by the end of next week. They aren't going to release hero on a Sunday because that would be Monday in Japan.

Wait, how will this determine Geno’s fate, anyway?
Mii costume comes back:

Mii costume is missing:

Basically Geno's chances get shot to Hell if the Mii costume comes back and nothing but a small miracle would bring him back but his chances rise exponentially if the Mii costume is gone.

You say this, but we all know the whole "Port over for easy cash and to avoid suspicion" possibility will be brought up again and be run with. This speculation train never stops.

Oh please no. There’s no good reason for them to bring back the costume if they’re going to sell Geno later on (at least in an already planned capacity, that’s open to change if we get more DLC like everything else speculation wise). Seems like a long way to go just so that some specific users don’t figure out that Geno is coming, especially with the fact it doesn’t really look good when you’re essentially trying to get fans to double down, buying the costume once when they think that’s all they’ll get and then again when he releases. The 4D chess with fans hasnt really ever happened like that either...

Speculation should just move to the next time new Smash characters are being chosen in the event that the Mii costume is shown off. Whether that means more DLC for Ultimate or the next Smash remains to be seen.

I mean, it's a port. Unless they actually say something like "This is all he is getting", there are technically no promises being made. They did so vocally for Rex.

Oh, I know. I'm not saying that Geno's totally done if the Mii costume comes back but I'm honestly not counting on it outside of cheeky Nintendo shenanigans (which would honestly be awesome if Geno really were to be the hypothetical post EVO announcement). I'm just saying that if the Mii costume comes back, Geno's best chances lie in high class Tom foolery butt ****ery that borders on the divine.

Didn’t Joker’s trailer drop at 9 PM EST? We’ve still got a bit before that (and all of next week for a shadow drop pre Evo)

If this was base game, I’d be inclined to agree with you. But there’s no reason to sell you an inferior product when you intend on selling the main product later on. It’s different when you’re offering paid DLC to consumers. That sort of repetition seems a little too devious for how Nintendo usually operates.

Sorry guys. King K is deconfirmed.

And he wasn’t playable in Smash 4 with DLC. Base game and DLC are wildly different conversations for how the Mii costumes will operate (also, weren’t all base game characters with a Mii costume also unveiled before their costume?).

Except most of the third party costumes are DLC. The fact that it is also a port adds even more fuel to that fire, as it would be very easy to bring over. Square also seems like the kind of company that would be fine with that sort of thing, especially when it's one of the only costumes they own that can be brought over.

I feel once we know when Hero drops, this place will balloon up and will pop.

Will it pop with excitement?

Or will it pop with acid and salt?

Hero is VERY soon. The wait is almost over guys. Nintendo has uploaded some spirits to their servers for the Smash World App. Smash modding discord has found some of the thumbnails.
