That is some awesome art. That makes me want even more crossovers made by Nintendo that isn¨t Smash Brothers.
Oh, definitely. With the library of IP's that Nintendo has, they could easily make some great crossover that remain within company. The artist did some other Nintendo ladies X Fire Emblem work that is also quite excellent.

This last one isn't made by the artist, but it is fan art of the Rosa design and is part of the reason the original Rosa art caught my attention.

Sakurai's comments in the last Famitsu article about technically being way ahead of schedule makes me think that #4 may not be totally impossible for a hypothetical August Smash Direct. My thoughts though are that, if we are in for a Smash Direct, we'll probably want to hold onto our butts. I feel like E3 and EVO reveals are especially catered to Smash fans given their history. E3 2013 had Megaman, E3 2014 had Pac-Man and Palutena, post EVO 2014 had Lucina and Robin (and Captain Falcon), E3 2015 had Roy and Ryu, E3 2018 had Ridley, Daisy, and all the returning veterans, post EVO 2018 had Simon, Chrom, Dark Samus and K. Rool, and this E3 had Banjo. That said, I strongly believe that a character reveal would be someone that the Smash community not only strongly wants but cares about because that's kind of the central thread that runs through all the characters I mentioned above. Aside from arguably Ryu, they were specifically big deals to the Smash community.

A metroid and left 4 dead crossover, if we're really going crazy.

Fire Emblem x Legend of Zelda and Star Fox x Metroid Prime are some class example.
The former could easily be a hybrid. Have the adventure mode Zelda style with the fighting mechanics being Fire Emblem. You could also have you summon/save other Fire Emblem characters from temple to temple. The bosses in each temple could be a mixture of monsters from Zelda and villains of the Fire Emblem franchise, with the last boss is Ganondorf with several phases with some of the bigger bads from FE.

Star Fox and Metroid could be a co-operative game where you need to solve puzzles and fight aliens together Metroid style while also fly from planet to planet Star Fox

The only ones that come to mind (assuming third party is the only batch we can pick from) are Geno, Rayman, Shantae, Steve, and maybe a few others. What other third party characters are heavily demanded?

I kind of want Nightmare from Soul Caliber. He may be a swordsman but he's far from anime.

I guess I should have been more specific on the "Nintendo crossover" part, but that still sounds interesting. Who would the 3 other playable characters be?

Both of those could work. That SFxM concept very similar to Adventure, right? Haven't played the game myself, but that is what that description reminds me of.
Hey, I have a random question: If Geno and Rosalina met, how do you think they'd interact and get along? Just curious.
I think they would get along well. Doupt that she would canonically be like a mother to him, but that's what fanon is for.

Speaking of mothers, I know Super Mario RPG is not canon to Super Mario Galaxy, but Geno did say he served a higher authority. What if that authority was Rosalina herself? She could be like a mother to Geno then. :troll:

In my dumb headcanon, he serves the Star Spirits of Star Haven, but he regards her very highly and quite like a mother figure.

I know it'd never be canon ever, but Nintendo and Square can pry my stupid fanon from my cold, dead hands! :yoshi:

Loyd/Yuri from Tales, Crash, Pheonix Wright, Sans, Shadow... Goku if we want to go even deeper into the rabbit hole.

I think if you are going to do a reveal at EVO, the way for maximum impact is to have the character be a fighting game character, a Capcom rep(Bonus points if they have been in a Vs. game), or a specifically American character.
Disturbing truth: Android 21 technically counts as a video game original character, so she is viable for Smash Bros.
Counter point, she had to exist in order for 16's inspiration to be born, thus that means she is essential to the Android saga in a very off screen way.

I know this is a joke, I just want to flex my limited Dragon Ball knowledge.

I merely jest. :D
Anyway though, if you had to pick a character to represent indie games, who would that character be?
My personal opinion says it should have been Shovel Knight but...you know..
I feel Shantae or the Knight from Hollow Knight would both be good choices.

Shantae, even tough she is a spirit, and I think the "spirits can't be characters" fan "rule" can be broken, still.

Shantae. She is the only character that rivals Geno in how much I want a character for Smash.

Early or not, they can't afford to dawdle around with the reveal forever, February's deadline for the full pass is getting ever closer.
Hero will presumably be releasing in the next couple of weeks, which puts us at 3 DLC fighters post launch out of total 6 announced fighters in a 7 month time frame out of a total 14 month schedule. I think we're still doing relatively fine on time even if Hero is coming later than I expected from a personal standpoint. And we know Banjo Kazooie will have greater turnaround.

My big question is: Why reveal fighter #4 around EVO? Why not just wait until you're ready to go over Banjo Kazooie and reveal Fighter #4 then? Sakurai specifically mentioned not wanting to reveal too much again after last year's August Direct and being too trigger happy, so wouldn't detailing Hero and releasing him, detailing Banjo Kazooie and giving a more concrete date, revealing whatever else is coming with them, and revealing #4 all at once essentially the same thing?

It's also worth noting that there are several instances of non-fan favorites getting revealed at these big events. E3 2013 also had Wii Fit Trainer and Villager. E3 2014 had the Mii's, Pac-Man, and Palutena... none of which were top tier fan requests though they had some support. Lucina and Robin mostly got such positive support for not being Chrom I feel like, though they did have some support as well. E3 this year also had Hero. I just don't quite see the same pattern. I'll agree they've been more substantial reveals, but not necessarily fan favorites. Substantial for EVO could just be Smash Bros. X Tekken for all we know.

I am more of a Papyrus guy when it comes to Smash, but you got to appreciate the legend. Imagine the Ness memes. Imagine them.
Earl, my man, my homie, my gnarly pal.

I didn't think I could like you more than I already do, but I thought wrong.

Papyrus solidarity.

Papyrus is my personal choice for an Undertale rep because I feel he could be much more expressive and humorous with his attacks and taunts and when he gets hit.

If there is indeed a Nintendo Direct post Evo, I don't think the hypothetical 4th DLC reveal will be a fighting game character. It's more likely to be a more highly requested character among fans like K. Rool and Simon were. Again, this is just hypothetical so far.

I agree with that. I feel that he would fit better than most other reps from the game, as Sans is kinda too overpowered and spoilery and Frisk is very complex to figure out. Papyrus just hits a nice middle ground, and no matter what route you go on, he is always there to make an impression. Sans could still make an appearance with Papyrus of course(Be it as an Easter egg or in taunts like Morgana).

Also, imagine an Undertale codec.

Snake: Otacon, there's some sort of skeleton talking about pasta over there.
Otacon: Snake, that's Papyrus! Don't you lay a hand on him or I'll cry profusely!

I feel like that Otacon bit is a reference to something, I just don't recall what.

...Dear God...
Papayrus: Sans, why am I fighting you!?
Sans: That's not me though.
Papayrus: What are you talking about!? Those shorts, that stripped shirt and that baseball cap! It all points to you! They are even your same height!
Sans: sigh....I'm not getting into this...
Papayrus: Wait! Help me defeat you!

That all depends on what’s potentially coming in addition to the Fighter’s Pass. Honestly, if they were to turn around and tease #4 on the heels of Hero’s release (which is a possibility at least, in light of recent events), that would suggest that there could be more on the way we don’t know about. Because, like you said, Sakurai is trying to be more intentional about the hype cycle.

In the alternative, you could argue that DLC hype is somewhat different than pre-release hype, so it’s maybe not as critical to maintain a steady balanced flow of new content.

I think Sans could be playable, but I’d also love Papyrus with Sans off to the side (like Pokémon Trainer) and helping him with some attacks without letting him know, but both of them knowingly helping each other with their final smash. I think that’d be better for Sans than an Easter egg or taunt, and it’d make more sense as well.

You know, if Toby Fox were to right a hypothetical codec for Smash, I would not doubt this happening.

If they were going to go for one of the Bone bros, I feel they'd definitely go for Sans, just for being a bigger, more popular character, and for having more moveset potential.

Personally I like Sans more too, so I'd be fine with it.
