@Sushi: I may go Saturday, and JoeC may as well
@Crio: Quarantine is a zombie horror flick.. An apartnent complex becomes infested, andd "da Man" has Quarantined the premises and killing anyone trying to exit. Zombies inside, corrupt murderous government outside. A win in my book.

I'm debating if I'm wanting to go to this coming tournament. I have a few questions. Low Tier Tournament cast? Is that like the "Middle" of the tier list on down or what?

Also I like to say that weekday tournament does kind of suck. Ryan and I are coming from 2 and a half hours away and it sucks when the tournaments ends around 12:00 AM. At least for me. Unlike RYAN I don't have the whole Thursday off to sleep in.

I have to admit the starting time for a Thursday is good so that can't change. If I have to make a suggestion, maybe start singles first. It's the main event after all. Then the people who can't stay too late have the option of leaving.

If you guys decide on doing it another day. Sundays work best for me. Just throwing it out there.

Is there another college crew coming down? A college vs college battle would be awesome wouldn't it? I can record. I'm sort of a factor on if Ryan is going or not and another one of our "crew" says he's only going if I'm going. It might help sway my decision.

Hey Khai , I think peter and I are most likely coming to this ... actually to be honest with everyone .. I dont know if I like the whole low tier tourny thing ... I think teams is way more fun and should be kept teams .

but thats just my opinion , it dont matter though, but we'll probably show up

Last tournament would of probably ended sooner but there was this toon link. Almost every one of his matches went close to the time limit. You really should yell at him for slowing everything down :-p.

@ali: I tend to agree that teams would be more fun. I don't play any low tier though and stand a decent chance of getting money out of teams so that might make me biased. Another option would be to have a crew battle.

I don't see anything wrong with there being teams every week but there are times when it's a good idea to move a little farther from the mainstream and do something different. Low Tier Singles is a good way to do that. In addition to doing something different, it's a way for some people to use characters that they normally wouldn't use for a tournament and for others to fight characters they don't fight often.

I don't mean to make fun of your opinion, I just wanted to throw in my own.

It's just a trial, guys. I wanted to mix things up this week. We will be doing doubles the following week, I am merely seeing how this plays out. If you don't want to enter... then don't enter. I just want to see how things work out in a semi-different format.

I'm debating if I'm wanting to go to this coming tournament. I have a few questions. Low Tier Tournament cast? Is that like the "Middle" of the tier list on down or what?
I posted the cast on my former post, but I'll post it again.

Low Tier characters(according to the SBR):
Lucas
Ness
Mario
Pokémon Trainer
Samus
Yoshi
Sonic
Jigglypuff
Ganondorf
Link
Captain Falcon
------

On the subject of moving the time / date / order of the tournament. The tourneys will continue to be held on Thursdays, But I had thought of doing Singles first. Then again, if you kids would finish up your doubles bracket faster, you could get to stealing our money a bit quicker.

Also, there was this Pit that was like a little, flying roach. You shoo him away and he keeps coming back. Hovering near the edge. Flying under stages. Just won't DIE!

AND the point of a Lower Tier Tournament is to make it more balanced with "unpopular" characters. Of course, YOU wouldn't like these tournaments when you don't bother with low tiers, RYAN! :)

Teams do play more differently from singles. Low tier is just a more limited form of singles. I'm honestly on there just for singles.

These tournaments do go kind of late for some. I know there were people there last week that had to be up for class/work at like 7, and they didn't leave until 12:30. Plus the ride home, that's rough.

I know for me personally right now it isn't a problem. I'll stay and hang till like 1, 2. But in a month my work schedule is changing and I won't be able to stay quite as late. :ohwell:

Yea, we could consider switching singles first. Im personally all for LT singles. Should be interesting.
I know next dbls, Adam/JMan are coming for first. You heard it here first.

Call it crazy, but i like fighting MK with Sonic. I run and gun all day. Plus, since MK attacks fast but hitboxes leave fast, my super-secret invincible attacks coupled with my in/out speed and solid gimps make it slightly more favorable (30-70 MK). Easier than Snake for me. Snake hax Ali... main Falco...

Most of the time, the reason the tournament runs a bit late is due to a few factors.

If we rush through winner's bracket, there is a delay while we wait for single match after single match to go on. This week, I will try to announce the matches in a more organized order.

Little ******* children asking me to play friendlies takes up alot of time, because then I need to think of creative ways to avoid a murder charge.

The grand finals (especially between Ali & Peter) take up at LEAST an hour. Which is lame, cause they're just gonna split the money anyway and spend it on hookers.

Dude don't be a ****. Don't judge somebody's Smash skill (or trash it, no less) unless you've actually played them. More so, don't judge somebody until you've actually met them.
I was just saying that you made a bold move by saying what you did: "these tourneys are the best and most talented Smash representation in the Carolinas." I was judging no ones Smash skill, nor was I try to offend anyone.

What I'm trying to say is that we get weekly regulars that are very talented. There are few places where you can go to on a weekly basis for cash tournaments. When cash is on the line every week, this **** gets real. I'm not saying that we're the only good Smashers in SC and NC, I'm well aware that there is talent spread all around and there are people who can't make it down. What I am saying tho, is that if you want to test your skill this is the place to do it.
Bro, go to a bi-weekly, or another regular Brawl tourney, or something other than these. I don't like the fact that you say Gamer's Edge has the best and most talented Carolina Smashers when you yourself haven't even been everywhere to Smash! (Hypocrite much?)

Listen dude, if you wanna come down and play some Smash that's cool.
Because I wouldn't be allowed to come if you didn't invite me?

I'm going to go out on a limb and give this fight a 2.

At least if you're going to throw down, you gotta do it like me and Jman (page 30-38 something). The fact that you're both misinterpreting each other is rather silly. perhaps we'll try to shed some light:
synopsis said:
Director: "GE has good players! A good range of skill with characters and players alike, its fun too! We even have some really good players that are better than anyone else I know!"

Dark: "OH YEAH!? Well we're pretty good too! We dont live down there, but we're still really good. Maybe even better than you!"

Director: "orly!?"

Dark: "yarly!"

Director: "nowai! you should come down and play with us cuz its fun and you're good!"

Dark: "You know, I might, and if I do, it will be because I want to! And we still have talent elsewhere in the state/county/area"

Director: "ok!"
Anyway, it sounds like there is a lot of Epeening and emo-nerd-raging going on. Dark, if you want to pick a week, any week at all, to bring your people in mass, just make a post. I'll rally my troops and the SC people will clear their schedules and the Georgia people will consider it and the Clemson people will arrive and we'll have a showdown or something.

Note: If you dont know what nerd raging is, I will refer you to an old hobby of mine, World of Warcraft top end arenas. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rAtlp2dDPU

As a representation of SC, I think GE's tourneys are a fairly accurate display of native player skill. We've had people from Charleston, Lancaster, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Clemson, several places in NC, and even Florida (over the summer). The same people generally place within the top five every week, regardless of who comes.

Concerning other tourneys, especially those that are oos, we've all been to those, too--oddly enough, with the same result. A lot of us continue to claim top five at the WABA monthlies and at the Chapel Hill bi-weeklies--Ali and I placed first in doubles, and third and fifth in singles just two days ago. The players in both states were neither tremendously better or worse than us.

Considering the fact that we host the ONLY tournaments in SC (the last non-GE tourney was in Charleston, during the middle of the summer, over four months ago), I think Joe's statement doesn't deserve any bashing--he is playing with the best from the state.

Oh, two of us from GE placed top 5 at the Charleston tournament, as well.

The GE tournies are definitely not the top representation of players in NC. Truly, the players there are definitely not all bad. Ali is at least on a similar level as the other players who do well in the state. The only thing that can truly be said is that the GE tournies are an accurate representation of the NC players from the Charlotte area. Saying that any tourney is an accurate representation of more than the players from the nearby area is probably wrong.

Good players aren't going to travel consistently to any tourney that's too far away unless they either have enough money to spend on going to tournies or have a very high chance of getting first. Aside from school, I probably wouldn't be able to travel to GE tournies regularly because I know there is a high probability that Ali would beat me. If I didn't get first I'm pretty sure that I would lose money, and I don't have extra money to spend at the moment. Seeing as most of the top players in the state are college students and that they are all relatively close in skill level, most of them probably won't travel to tournaments that are that far away very often.

I gotta get my snake better , I really can't lose to anyone anymore if I want to reach real high, but whatever.

About the low tier tourny .. I dont really care whether you do it or not , Im still going to enter .. Im just saying doubles is more fun, ive played low tier tourny before.

As for the bi-weekly , it was fun ... but I was playing horribly for some reason , i do not know why.. its like I just picked up snake for the first time it felt lol

how about a low tier team tourney?

you got low tier AND you got team.

AND if the # of entrants are the same or less, it'll end faster than a low tier singles tourney.

we all go home earlier.

I play Mario. RAWR!

I agree with Karn stuff.

I'd really like to show you guys what I can do, but this weekly mess, combined with college applications plus school projects and shiz makes for a real pain too for weeklies.

I'll show you guys some pretty good NC talent if you can make a weekend tourney that I can throw down with everyone from all over the place there.

Sorry about how you guys played, Ali and Karn. I thought you played better than before though Karn bro, but maybe it's just been too long.

I dunno, he's really not that bad. Probably because of his predictable Bair and Fireball setups. It's been forever since I've read anything on him, so I can't say much more without doing a little guesswork.

I'd say that Mario's "combos" are fairly difficult to pull off, and that his overall short range, combined with a mediocre aerial mobility don't net him very many noticable advantages or advantageous situations over most of the cast.

His recovery isn't very good, yes he has cape stall, but his Up-B can be gayed too easily.

What I don't understand is how his edgeguarding abilities don't boost him to middle tier at least. Cape glide to Uair, FLUDD, and regular cape/cape stall are phenomenal edgeguarders. I need to practice with some of these more to determine the full extent of their capabilities soon.

FBs are good approaching tools though, it's just after that when hitting becomes a problem. Most of his grounded attacks are too slow, or don't reach far enough, or aren't safe enough. Bair becomes too predictable and can get punished, but then you can change timing and such to take advantage of shields and counterattacks here somewhat.

Mario is weak from below.

Mario is weak from the front (in air).

Plunger sucks at killing.

Dair has great priority, but not enough range to be worth it sometimes. Still a great shield poke though.

Mario can't Uair juggle easily due to ADs and no more quick dash to jump (with dash momentum) boosts.

That's all I can remember right now. Does that help?

I can tell you why Jigglypuff is low tier they dont use Rollout enough.

If everybody did it he will be top tier.
