Been messing around in +R recently between study sessions. Dizzy's amazing in this game, I love it. Much better than her AC self.

Not to be a shameless shill, but CapitalKO's heading up on Saturday afternoon (starting about 2 or 2:30ish), and TorontoTopTiers are heading down not just to play, but to provide the stream. P4A may be in "potential side tourney depending on numbers" status now, but there's still gonna be Blazblue, AE2012, SFxT 2013, TTT2, UMVC3, Injustice, and Guilty Gear. The guys at GO Gaming and all the others helping to get this setup have really been busting their arses on this, so if you've got some time to spare Saturday afternoon, you should check out the stream at www.twitch.tv/torontotoptiers.

And uh, you may or may not see me get bodied in TTT2, and Injustice, and run into a brick wall named MTL in Blazblue. :bee:

I wish I could be playing +R right now. :(

Guess I'll stick to learning long Ms. Fortune combos for now. And maybe some more AC stuff too.

I would watch this, but I'm pretty sure NCR is also this weekend.

I'll try to tune in if there's AE on or something, haha.

KVO 2013 x GODSGARDEN x a-cho is this week too.
Yeah she got a lot of good buffs.
Yeah, I feel like she's one of the best in the game at the moment. Tools I'm liking are her new fish moves and properties, extra ice spike, fb spear, special cancellable 2D (so no more TKing), and new FRC point on 6HS. Her oki is even way better than before too.

Yeah during the loketesting people on Dustloop speculated her having S Tier potential because she got so many new good tools.

Aeon would make a good Jojo villain's stand.

Alternate universe evil Jotaro/good Dio.

And all the time shenanigans.

Here's kind of a weird question: do you guys ever have a mental block about beating someone? I'm guessing it's because I play against him so much, but there's one local guy that I can't beat, no matter how hard I try. I can beat players better them him, and players that he can't beat, but I just can't usually take more than a couple rounds off of him.

How do you overcome that? Thoughts?

Don't play him a while? I'd assume at this point you know each too well and it's just hard reads everywhere. Maybe you can take a break from playing him so you can come back with a fresh mindset.

I noticed when playing my friend I'll get into a certain state of mind/autopilot and just kind of do the same thing over and over again, sometimes without even realizing. I think one of the important steps to getting around a block in fighting games is to analyze what you're doing mid match and mentally remind yourself to try/do something different because obviously what you're trying isn't working.

Also, how about that ChrisG, he's gotten real damn good at fighting games

For me, I have to remind myself when to turtle. Otherwise, my ass gets handed to me.

Also, I'm painfully reminded once more how I"m stuck in a Capcom state. Any new game that comes out will be played for about two months at most before being dropped to go back to Marvel. If you like Marvel, that's great, but I really wish my state would give more attention to the other games. We had SFxTK for a little but, as expected, it slipped under the radar again.

I feel your pain man. My scene is very much an AE and Marvel scene. We have a group of people who get together to play TTT2, but they I think get together some other place from where we normally are. There's a few playing BB and P4A, but with the college school year over, it's kind of a bit off since I don't think everyone's migrated over to the normal place yet. And plus, well...the people at the normal HQ can be a bit into the trash-talking, which can turn off some younger/newer people.

At least you have more than two people that play those other games. I try to get people's attention to play these games, but the common complaint I hear about Tag 2, Virtua Fighter, and other games is that they're too hard when Marvel's a freaking mess to watch and learn (how to not get mad). At least I can understand if you said Virtua Fighter looks bland as hell because it does. Meanwhile, anime games don't get much attention unless it's based off of a previous franchise (Persona, Naruto, etc.).

Damn us Americans.

We had KOF going on for a little while (again, like every other game), but then it mostly delved down to two players for some reason.

I honestly don't realize what people see in Marvel. It's probably the most ****ed up mainstream game out there, but if people enjoy it then go ahead.

Just for the record, I haven't played MvC3 yet, but this is still pretty funny.

The same thing would happen to me with a good friend of mine back in the states in Melee. He'd play Falco and I'd play Marth, and we were so used to playing against each other that our matches would rarely differ, and I'd always make the same mistakes, and would very rarely beat him. It was like a mental barrier. I'd say don't play against him or a while, and sorta learn some new tricks/characters if you can. You just gotta break that routine and surprise him.

I can't get into any of the Marvel games that I have played.

But I like Skullgirls. Probably thanks largely to all the customization, being able to pick your team size and the assist attacks your characters use is required for these kind of games imo.

The only fighting games I am seriously into are GG and TvC. Nothing else has been very interesting or deep for me. Like I don't even see how UMvC3 can even be considered competitive. It seems like a super casual game except there is a huge technical barrier in the way.

1. It has Marvel characters.
2. It has Capcom characters.
3. It's flashy as hell.
4.Long ass combos.
5. It's broken as **** and somehow people like it because of that.

Yes, but where is actual competition? 95% of the time in competitive games there is zero interaction between the players because one is comboing the other and he can't do ****. That game needs a burst mechanic more than anything.

I can't get into Marvel, but I think a lot of the interest in the Capcom fighters has to do with well, being the Capcom brand. If you look at it, Capcom is considered to be the company that got the FGC created. Street Fighter will always be immensely popular almost on brand name alone since if you think fighting games, typically SF is the first thing most people will think on. With Marvel, the game is flashy, fast, chaotic, a Capcom game, and has tons of iconic characters and stuff. Not to mention, it's a series that has been building up since X-Men: COTA. Well, that, and it's for some reason always been a good "spectator game", even if I'd rather watch KOFXIII

The most popular FGC series seem to be the ones that have been around the longest, like Tekken as well when it comes to 3D fighters. Yeah, KOF and MK have been around really long too, but with KOF mostly being known as a Neo-Geo series, and KOF12 being total garbage, KOFXIII is the first technical HD-era game in the series. With MK, it's not so much the games haven't been accessible, as it is that MK9 is just moreso the only one people in the tournament scene seem to accept, and it's casual enough to essentially be a gateway fighter of sorts.

having a good defense in marvel?

with **** flying at you in 32948320439 different directions only to be comboed to death from 1 hit?

yea...game could really use a burst mechanic

A good defense is respected in Marvel and is something top players tend to have. I'm just saying, if the game wasn't all that competition viable, placings wouldn't be consistent with good players.

Not to say Marvel isn't silly as ****, because it is, but that might be why people like it so much.

I swear, Marvel is the most hated game by people who don't play it.

I mean, I get it. Everyone has games they like and games they don't. But bashing on a game doesn't help anyone, and it's divisive and alienating. Why would someone try the game you love if you hate on the game they love? I don't like SFIV, but ****ting on it won't make people any more receptive to playing my anime games.

Yes, having a good defense is important. Because the players who consistently place well in Marvel have good fundamentals in general.

i played marvel....a ****ton

still doesn't change the fact that defense in the game is really nonexistent

even if you do block, you're still getting a lot of your life taken off by chip damage
