Last year 3rd strike had over 300 players.
And half of them used Yun. j/k

Hopefully I can find an inexpensive place to stay for a couple days. This is going to be really fun, and I hope to see everyone there.

And yes, I'll be doing live updates much like The OC3.

For the record, this is happening in one week and I'm already nervous as hell. It's gonna be awesome.

Next season Evo should just do what MLG did and rely on points for seeding.
They sort of do....that's why 32 people are already seeded in the last half of the tournament.

Does no one pay attention? It's not rocket science. They don't need to seed the entire tournament. Who cares who places 45th. If you don't make it out of pools because you got a 'bad' pool, oh well, you should have gone to the qualifiers or you simply should not have lost.

Hell. Yeah.

I'm going, and if anyone decides not to, then I don't know what the f*ck you're thinking. One of the biggest tourneys of the year, it's in VEGAS, AND it has Marvel Vs Capcom 2. Effing get there.

Just 2 days for me to take my flight to Vegas with other 3 p.r. smashers :D... I cant wait for evo cause this tourney is going to be the best. Hope that I can find some of the "big names" so I can actually play with them some matches (would be a waste to fly over to the states and cant play any tops =\). Hope have a good time and play some good matches too (Im missing 3 days of college ><'). So far the only one hyped here is HugS. :o

PS. We are planning on going to some pre-evo event that someone mention early in this thread. Anyone going?

Good luck to those who go.

Don't gamble all your winnings. It's tempting, but you guys'll manage.

A crown Puff just beat a black Falcon.

I'm guessing it was Mango, but who was the Falcon?

And ROFL tells me Mango beat M2K and Lucky beat Cactuar.

Congratulations to the final eight: Ken, DSF, Mango, Hugs, ChuDat, Chillin, P.C. Chris and Eddie.

The scheduled bracket will be up in a few minutes, but I did want to apologize to those who were hoping for the live updates from me.

I get to the hotel and connect to the casino's wi-fi and find out that I need a code. Whatever, right? So I talk to the casino attendant, who said that I had to have RESERVED A HOTEL ROOM at in order to get a wi-fi code. Then I had to go to that room and log on through there ... and it was a bunch of bull**** that I really didn't want to go through.

Since I knew no melee player who reserved a room at the hotel, no code. Therefore, no wi-fi and no constant updates.

EVO staff does have their own broadband line (the reason why they did the live feed). I'm hoping they let me share their line tomorrow, at least for the 3s and Melee finals. I talked to mrwizard really quick about it, but he had to take care of other biz, so I didn't want to bother him.

Today's matches were really great.

If you did hear that it was 1 round double elimination, you are correct. HOWEVER, they're doing that for other games as well.

About 270 melee players, and I believe it was an even-bigger turnout for 3s (which is running right now).

And Mango ... goodness gracious.

Just so you know, finals won't be on the stream.

Evo staff is saving that for the DVD.
Yeah mrwizard told me about that before he left to do his thing.

I'm trying to think of a contingency plan to get you guys the results/updates. The only other wi-fi place is about 10 minutes from the venue and it's hella f'n packed, so we're talking a 20-minute turnaround at the quickest.

I dunno yet. I'll figure something out.

= = =

EDIT: By the way, if you're looking at the final 8 bracket, I should point out that the initial start DID NOT happen. So, Mango did not beat Eddie, Ken didn't beat DSF, etc. I just advanced the players to reflect who has 0 losses and who has 1 loss.

Well it was double elimination, just best of 1 for the matches. Which yeah, kinda sucks but they have to what they have to do. I'm pretty sure that final are going to be double elimination though. The people with one loss from qualifying rounds will probably start in the losers bracket, while the people that went undefeated are in the winners, or sum'n like that. I think that's how EVO has been doing it at least.

Yeah, they'll continue the double-elimination tournament. As far as rounds, I believe they're going best-of-3, but we'll know tomorrow.

Just so people know, Melee wasn't the only game hit with the change. They also ran Third Strike a best-of-1 as well.
