Shuffled up air works well for me, and occasionally anti air uptilt/upsmash to techchase.

Unrelated: Is Doc's upair supposed to auto cancel or do I just suck at shuffling?

I don't even like to go in the air that much as Doc. It's really risky. His aerials don't have that much over range, priority, etc. over a lot of the other characters. Wavedashing in and out is the safer option. I only go in the air to counterattack my opponent if I predict him/her to jump in the air, or to bait them into doing something else. It's really easier for fast characters (like Fox) to just dashdance away from Doc as soon as Doc is in the air and then punish him before or he lands since Doc can't really defend himself with that much.

EDIT:
I love the Doc boards. One day, Doc. shall win tournaments.

Yeah, the up-air should auto cancel (ZERO landing lag) :chuckle:. Just shorthop up-air and fastfall. No L-canceling required for that trick. The up-air animation lasts 33 frames, but it will auto cancel after just going through 16 frames of the up-air animation. So if you start the up-air too late before landing, you would have to L-cancel to kill some of the landing lag.

thanks dogy, thats heaps useful, I was playing some noobs today and getting some chaingrabs going.
also that 0 to death was beautiful.
since doc's grab game is so ****, what are the best leadups to grab?

also sorry for spamming you guys with questions (gives you something to do though) I had a quick read of that cg thread by magus, do the different grabs, (standing, jc, dash) have different hitboxes on them?
Um, the only thing that can really "lead" (combo) into a grab, persay, is an u.air or n.air. Everything else is just setting people up to get grabbed.

U.tilt and u.smash in some specific situations.

So really, your goal is to either try to make people shield, punish them for whiffing, or punish them for hitting your shield.

__

Do different grabs have different hitboxes? *shakes hand* Yes, but not really with doc. It's more of the speed in which they come on. So like, a standing grab (or walking) grab is the fastest grab you're gunna have, jc is fastest from run (but not as fast as walking since you have to cancel a jump), and dash is the slowest but "has the longest range"

It really comes down to how you use them. I mean, some doc's NEVER dash grab.

:laugh: lol then you have people like GAWes who's picking up doc who swears by some grunt-grabbing. XD (WHO THE **** GRUNT GRABS?!??!)

it does if you do it going up.
Wavedashing in and out is the safer option.

Nah dawg.

Wavedashing in isn't a "safer" option, ever. It's viable if you know they're not going to swing at you (or where you're wavedashing to), but wavedashing in is generally not that great.

Commitment to movement towards your opponent, with both kinds of cues (audible and visible), and enough time for them to react. Sure, they can't specifically react to what you do AFTERWARDS (so long as it's not something lengthy), but they can react to you wavedashing in.

And doc's already do win tourneys.

Boss has won some stuff up north.
HMW ****ING FOUGHT SHROOMED IN FINALS.
I think 18s has won a few things.
I've won a **** sponsorship.

What you wanna say is "one day docs will win nationals", lol.

LOLOLOLOL.

EDIT:
Nevermind if you're talking about their grand finals from like 8 months ago.

i busted out the doc vs phil and falcomist last night

and man, i forgot how hard it was to get a hits and too get out of pressure with doc (for me anyway)

i feel like i got alittle better at approaching and egdeguards tho

pilling forward is legit, puts that pressure on people

most docs pill in place (shoutsouts to otg cuz he pills forward)

On my 5th 4 Loko and still ****** you.
lol, worst(/best?) DI ever. When I landed that grab I was just like "...**** lol". I know Fair does combo into grab on certain floaties too but its only at low % (like 0% on Marth iirc). Still tho, good little trick to bust out if you're like me and throw out Fairs like its ganon.

yeah, that one set. But it's happened. I mean if you wanna downplay that, none of the tourneys I've ever won have REALLY been meant a **** cause they were either like, small monthlies or that one faulty *** tourney I won my "sponsorship" at.

.... i am still salty that I talk about that **** like it means something.

I had soulsilver, and all my friends were playing it too, then I found out about the gift exploit, where you can basically have whatever pokemon you want, so I made an awesome Baton pass team, now no one will play with me.

So, I got to play somebody in town today. Never really great practice (especially since the guy was constantly flirting with his new GF. He's in a complicated relationship situation).

But like, somewhere in this we were playing Doc/Marth.

And I hit this man with 6 dash attacks in a row. Like, juggled him across FD with dash attacks. Now this whole time I was thinking "lol i ***** his jump", BUT AS I WENT TO N.AIR HIM, HE JUMPED AWAY.

So I stop and look at him like "so you mean to tell me that in all that it never crossed your mind to just... jump away from that?" and he was too busy flirting/texting to respond.

Only reason i'm mentioning this is cause somewhere in the day he asked me "Dogy how do you describe me to your friends?" and I dodged the question.

:laugh::laugh::laugh:

6 dash attacks.

Made me feel like I was s-rank or something.

Doc Playlist 2

It's not completely done, and some vids have already been removed (glares at waffles), but it's close enough.

Yea, the n-air's hitbox sucks. The n-air loses (crashes at best) as long as the opponent attacks anywhere in Doc's vicinity.
Even "high priority", good hitbox Nairs like Luigi's fail immensely as combo breakers if people know what they're doing. People just don't think to shield grab them, outprioritize them with monster range moves (see: Marth, Fox U-tilt, etc.), or do a move that has invincibility in a convenient location. Like Peach's U-smash. Or Doc's U-smash. Or many other moves.

The only real exception I can think of is specific combo stuff like some throws vs Peach...
