I mean, Superman has the wonderful ability to phase through walls / the ground by glitching through them. So maybe it could work.

That's going to be Superman's stage gimmick though. Imagine playing online with that.

In other words, Spyro wouldn't really change the reception of said reveal. If you wanna break the internet Crash is enough, the only thing Spyro would add at that point would be "so companies can double dip", but at the same time they both would be the final characters, so that wouldn't really change speculation.
And I like him, but Crash has always been significantly more popular and is the one people talk about in the context of Smash.

Bit of a sidenote: While a lot of Japanese people would probably ask "Why?!" if Spyro got revealed, I honestly don't think that he would be neccessarily hated per se. To my knowledge the Spyro games are obscure practically because the port went disasterous, and as a result I don't think there'd be a ton of disgust neccessarily, more so confusion and maybe some curiosity if we're very generous.

Also, I'm editing this in because I didn't think it warranted its own post. Still a notable achievement for MHR:

Anyway, if we are still talking about non-video game characters in Smash, my choices would be Goku from Dragon Ball and Spiderman. I don't think I need to explain Goku, and as for Spiderman; I think he'd be so cool! Imagine his web based attacks in Smash!

I know that nobody here wants this to happen, but: If the last 2 FP characters ended up being characters that DIDN'T originate from a video game, then what chars would people here think they'd be?

Given their long gaming legacies.. probably Mickey Mouse & Batman.

Both have gaming roots going all the way back to the 80s, both have had games on every single Nintendo system (barring the Virtual Boy), both have many titles to pull movesets from, and both have worldwide fame. Plus how fitting would it be for the ultimate crossover like Smash Bros to get a Disney and Warner Bros character in the same major project for the first time since Roger Rabbit?

I see a lot of people putting Yu as the persona character. I get that he's really popular, but I personally don't want the two most boring persona protagonists in the game, when there are much more interesting choices.

That's probably just me though.

Idk I think Joker is all but boring. As far as ''self inserts'' characters go in Persona he's one of the most interesting ones IMO. Only tied by Tatsuya.

Haven't played Persona 1 yet though but I personally doubt it would make me change my mind.

Yeah, now that I think about it, Joker has more personality that I thought he did when I posted that.

Although, smash doesn't represent his personality very well, since it makes him seem really serious, instead of the cocky teenager he's shown to be in P5.

Probably because Popeye isn't that interesting all things considered especially when compared to characters like Goku or Spider-Man.

The fact that the Genndy Popeye movie got canned is still making me kinda salty, NGL.

Because from the slight snippet that was released, it had a lot of potential and could show a lot more of Popeye's strengths (no pun intended).

Yeah, now that I think about it, Joker has more personality that I thought he did when I posted that.

Although, smash doesn't represent his personality very well, since it makes him seem really serious, instead of the cocky teenager he's shown to be in P5.

He doesn't have the exact same attitude, no, but IMHO his personality is decently well-translated. Although it's mostly in the subtler stuff like the small smirks he sometimes does, the quick "Hah!" in one of the winscreens, or in particular the delivery of "There!" and "You're mine!".

Then again, I'd argue that Smash is not a particularily well-suited game to portray personalities to begin with - especially not since the normals need to generally be quick and snappy, and they're the moves that people most often use.

Aye, the same with King Kong.

Both are also to some degree in the public domain. Popeye being so in Europe whereas with King Kong its the novelization of the the 1933 film but that's only because its copyright wasn't renewed.

I assume it's a case-by-case basis. Dracula has the advantage of being a video game version of a Public Domain character, so only the people who made that game (in this case, Konami) would have to be involved.

He had literally 0 part in the games. Some dude just made a Slender game cause they felt like it. The Game Creator, Knudsen, and maybe the Marble Hornets team would be all Nintendo would need for that inclusion. And they are probably the most lax copyright holders I’ve ever seen.

2013 "Game & Wario" released today !! It was a game that used the Wii U gamepad. In Smash Bros., the interaction with the horrifying mom is reproduced on the stage called "Gamer". The game is sneaky. # Smash Bros SP

Alright if we’re talking about non-video game characters in Smash: after having a dream about it, I lowkey want Scott Pilgrim in Smash. I mean I am opposed to non-video game characters but he’d fit a lot better than most since a lot of Scott Pilgrim is an ode to video games with tons of references, plus he has had his own fairly popular video game. Obviously though he’d be in the manga art style and preferably NOT voiced by Michael Cera.

and the next one is complete bias but if there was another character it’d have to be Jotaro/DIO. I just love Jojo’s and despite not being video game characters they would fit in sorta well and have such fun play styles. My other biased weeb answers are Spike Spiegel (imagine Kirby w/ that hair style), Sailor Moon, Edward Elric and Homura Akemi.

Spider-Man would actually be really deserving if he was originally from a video game. He was in a very popular fighting game series and was the main character of one of the PS4's biggest exclusives. If it was anyone else, we'd be heralding them as a lock.

Sorry for posting again so soon after my last one but this actually made me think of something else. How would you guys feel if Disney only let Sora into Smash if he came along with a few Disney characters? Let’s just say Donald & Goofy in his final smash performing Trinity Limit as well as being in one of his victory animations as well as being spirits & stage cameos. Also, Disney would never let them use just Donald & Goofy and not Mickey so King Mickey would be a stage cameo and a spirit too. Maybe even a couple other characters relevant to the overall plot as spirits/stage cameos like Jimminy Cricket and Yen Sid.


Now honestly? My controversial opinion is this is how I would want Kingdom Hearts representation in the game. Could Kingdom Hearts work in Smash without any Disney elements? A lot of people have argued yes and while it could, to me the main draw of KH is it being a combination of Disney & FF. I mean, Sora’s design even mirrors Mickey Mouse’s clothes. It would feel like a neutered version of Kingdom Hearts if it didn’t contain any Disney elements, Sora without Donald and Goofy in some capacity just doesn’t sit right to me. And the keyblade even has Mickey ears on it. As long as it feels like they’re doing an accurate representation of the game instead of it being just a Disney advertisement, it’d be perfect. And I mean, if Nintendo goes through the trouble of getting Kingdom Hearts rights from Disney (and it IS owned by Disney), why not get a few Disney elements too? Ultimate is already a fever dream enough anyways to where having Mickey & Mario in the same game isn’t as jarring as it would be ten years ago.
