Wooooo we finally get a Skylanders rep in Smash

I'm more attached to Spyro than I am Crash, and even then Spyro is one of those "he'd be cool" picks rather than an active want. So Spyro would be neat, but Crash would be eh for me, especially because they'd be ending the DLC with two back-to-back characters from the same company.

I doubt they'd do a back-to-back reveal of two characters from the same company unless that company was Nintendo themselves.

Honestly, I'm not even sure they'd be all that interested in Spyro if they got Crash.

The Japanese people picking these characters wouldn't be interested in Spyro even if they didn't get Crash. There's a reason "Spyro is le lock" doesn't plague modern speculation the way "Crash is le lock" does.

Hmm, from more of a standpoint of what would work well for movesets, a lot of NPCs in Minecraft don’t do enough things to represent their own gameplay well. Villagers could work if you represent the sum total of all of the different Villager jobs, although it might be a bit strange seeing a single Villager doing everything.

Another option is to look past Minecraft itself and consider the Minecraft Dungeons protagonists (there’s four “main” protagonists, although I forgot their names. Steve and Alex are also playable skins in that game but they aren’t among the main protagonists.) Their moveset would be a bit more straightforward than Steve’s, featuring standard bow and crossbow projectiles, a large variety of melee weapons, TNT that acts as a more traditional time bomb instead of a landmine trap, and probably some kind of burst movement dash move that helps compensate for not having much better base aerial movement than Steve’s. In terms of gimmicks, they could have some kind of loot system where enemies drop random weapons and armor pieces when hit, so that they can improve and customize their builds over the course of the match. The items wouldn’t drastically change their moveset, but different weapon types could benefit different areas of their moveset, and there could be a passive upgrade slot as well.

I’d be super hyped about Crash & disappointed with Spyro.

I played through the Crash & Spyro trilogies for the first time in January. I ended up loving Crash but I thought Spyro was really bland & boring. I really don’t get why the Spyro games are so beloved outside of nostalgia.

Now that I think about it, the person who made this ad must've not known that Guts started as a manga character, since there's an ESRB rating for a Berserk game in the bottom-left.

I’m glad his games can make people happy even if they weren’t for me. I love 3D platformer & with how beloved Spyro is, I was expecting something on Mario or Banjo’s level. I didn’t really get that lol

I just played through the first Jak & Daxter which is closer to what I expected from Spyro. That was a really good game.

While it's 6 characters... not only are they all the Triforce trio, they also have 3 unique character archetypes between them.

Well...4. Ganondorf might share all of the same actions that Captain Falcon does in his moveset, but his properties are so different that they are nowhere near similar from a gameplay standpoint, and even compared to other superheavyweights he's in a league of his own for better or worse.

Unless we're purely talking originality, then yeah, 3.

As far as The Legend of Zelda characters go, there's a good reason why most fans simultaniously want someone and no one in particular.

• Ganon would be a fresh take on the superheavyweight archetype with him also being a caster, and would come with a moveset that is more rooted in canon rather than simply attempting to capture the feel of the character with another character's moveset.
• Impa has yet to do much of interest outside of spin-offs made by Koei-Techmo, but her appearance in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword would make for a good Echo Fighter for Sheik. I'm sure she'll get a more unique Nintendo-owned appearance eventually though, it just depends on how much you're willing to wait.
• The Skull Kid has nebulous powers, but here, this works in his favor by allowing the team to give the character whatever the heck they want, from summoning minions to turning opponents into defenseless Deku Scrubs, and that's just what's cannon.
• EDIT: Forgot to mention Tingle, who's another character with nebulous abilities that they could do whatever they want with. Heck, they could even separate him from his home series and go full Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland with his moveset, which...is kind of a monkey's paw situation, but eh.
• Midna would work best as a duo fighter with Wolf Link imo. Wolf Link does the normals, while Midna helps out with the Special Moves, Grab, and Final Smash. I suppose that's not the only way you have to do it if that's too monkey's paw for the fans, but I think it makes the most sense. They could also add her true form, perhaps wielding the Mirror of Twilight.
• Vaati would fill the only technically done role of dark mage (Ganondorf is one in the game he comes from but is a brawler in Super Smash Bros., Sephiroth is a swordsman first and mage second, and Robin shouldn't even be able to use Nosferatu as a Tactitian why do they keep giving him dark magic?). He's presumably owned by Capcom, but that's probably less of an issue than Impa's Warrior appearances since Capcom is really into crossovers and already has 3 characters. Still a barrier though. As for what Vaati does specifically, I honestly don't know, but even if it's nothing outside of his boss form, I'm sure they could find something cool to give him.
• While I don't like Girahim, I can see why he'd appeal to some people. I do think he's a "be careful what you wish for" character because I have a strong suspicion that he would be designed specifically to be annoying, perhaps even going as far as to have him counter physical attacks while he's standing still by grabbing them, and pushing the opponent back, doing no damage and resetting to neutral. And of course, disjoints combined with all the projectiles.
• Any of the four champions would be great, and their only barrier to entry is the fact that they're a packaged deal, and having three of them support just one would be a bit strange. Though with picks like Min Min and Pyra/Mythra, it wouldn't really be surprising if they did just pick one and relegated the other three to taunt characters (and luckily, I wouldn't actually hate a decision like that for once).
  • Mipha would likely be a disjoint based fighter, perhaps with the ability to both zone and rush down depending on her situation. They could also try something with her healing abilities, perhaps giving her an AoE healing effect that she has to protect so that her opponents can't use it instead.
  • Rivalli would be a projectile zoner with a great air game. He could wield different arrows in battle to inflict devastating effects on his opponents.
  • Urbosa would probably be the most straightforward as a more balanced fighter with a ton of power behind some of her moves. Perhaps she could have some sort of AoE stun too.
  • Daruk would be another superheavyweight fighter with an emphasis on defense. I imagine he'd have a ton of super armour and range, but abysmal speed aside from his Goron roll abilities. He could have a unique shield that protects him from shield poking as well.

That's the reason why we need Lara Croft in the game, so she can finally reunite with Guts.

so hear me out on this, but while dlc is nice and fun and fancy and all that ****, there's a side to me that basically just wants to pay for a game and expect that the game i bought is the game i'll be playing forevermore, rather than having to be held in limbo for a year and a half after release to see if a particular character gets in or not. sure sure it can fill in some roster gaps, but ultimately it's a trap where games are pushed out and then needlessly overfilled. then you've also got version mismatches, and costs add up (i think for all of the dlc fighters it cost equal or more than the actual game itself!). also people that were waiting and hoping for the dlc's lifespan lose twice, and people who jump in late jump in 10-20 dollars behind, and that's just not cool to me.

so whatchu thinking? think dlc's a good idea or do you prefer a completed game in your hands that you don't have to wait a year to explore fully?

I like DLC. It's just more content.

I think Spyro himself is a great character (if a bit standard for kids show protagonists), but the writing in his games is awful. From the second game onward, I feel like you could only enjoy it if you are a child, and even then I feel like you'd have to be used to your media talking down to you.

I’d add a Creeper; I made a thread for it including a moveset, but here’s my general idea:

The Creeper’s moveset would consist of normal headbutts, tackles and stuff, explosive-and-fire-based moves (gunpowder shot, self-destruct except the creeper survives while being covered in soot it has to shake off, fire charge fireball, and a firework recovery), and having other mobs assist it so it can represent them too, like an Enderman appearing in its grabs and maybe it can summon mobs if they don’t just appear in other moves. This includes passive mobs.

Idk how it’d hold items, but maybe either it lifts up one leg to hold an item while the other three still move like normal, or it just holds items in its mouth.

Its final smash involves it becoming a charged creeper, it and other mobs beating up the opponent, them fleeing while the Wither comes in to fire wither skulls at the opponent, then finally the Ender Dragon charges into the opponent, making them fly into the distance.

Either that or it just gives one big explosion after becoming charged and maybe dealing some electric damage.

I think the Creeper would be cool because it’s an icon like Steve and Alex, and admittedly I’m biased because it’s my favorite mob.

Second Minecraft character? My mind immediately goes to a character I'll dub the Minecraft Dungeoneer. It's another block person like Steve, but they move much more smoothly and dynamically (still no bendable limbs though, as it should be), their textures are more detailed, and they focus on interesting weaponry and artifacts instead of mining and crafting. It's likely that they'd wield the sword (although they can use anything from whips to scythes), and have a special move that uses the bow, but beyond that, they have a bunch of artifacts to chose from:

• Corrupted Beacon: A giant screw you laser. Probably the Final Smash or something.
• Updraft Tome: Creates a gust of wind around you that lifts up enemies, damaging them from the fall. This could make a good Up Special.
• Corrupted Seeds: Briefly stops enemies from moving, and poisons them, dealing damage over time.
• Gong of Weakening: Reduces the damage that enemies deal, and increases the damage they take for a bit.
• Fireworks Arrow: An arrow that deals massive AoE damage.
• Torment Quiver: Grants three slow arrows that deal more damage, and pierce through enemies.
• Golem Kit: Summons an Iron Golem that deals quite a bit of damage, and takes just as much.
• Tasty Bone: Gives you a puppy because yes. Hopefully it would be more useful in this game.
• Death Cap Mushroom: Increases damage and attack speed.
• Ghost Cloak: Increases speed and lowers damage taken.
• Totem of Shielding: Creates a dome around itself that acts as a wall for projectiles. Usually projectiles that hit it will just disappear, but those that have a secondary effect may immediately trigger said effect when they hit it (EDIT: For example, Crash Bombs would stick to the barrier before exploding). Projectiles do still work within the barrier, and can be fired outward from the inside.
• Wind Horn: Pushes all nearby enemies away from you.

Not sure how exactly you'd go about making a moveset for the character, but the potential's there.

I've never been that much interested in Crash. Among the "Frontrunner" characters we have had for DLC, Crash is probably the one that excites me the least, or one of them at least. It's also the same deal with Spyro. I've just never been into the these characters like that. Cool for the fans though

From a moveset persepctive, I honestly imagine the more fun part about them would be how they animate and also their movement options, because to be honest, their actual moves, like Specials, they would have don't seem too interesting at first glance, Especially Spyro, since it seems like he only has 3 moves (Headbutt, Fire Breath, Gliding). Crash's Aimable Wumpa cannon seems fun though

It could probably be really fun to move around with them though, depending on how they Implement them. Like doing a Fast Slidekick to any aerial option from Crash seems like fun. Being able to Fire breath while running WithSpyro also seems like fun, and perhaps if they allowed him to Glide too

How do you react?

Usually I'm hesitant towards the idea of two similar characters taking up two slots in a row, especially the last two slots, but this would be hype for me. Crash is my most wanted and Spyro would be a great choice so this would have me going ape **** and falling over.

As for why people like Spyro, well for me personally I don't have as much nostalgia for him as I do with Crash, but there are some things that lure me towards his games:

• The art style. The games are pretty and have a lot of personality.
• The platforming and overall exploring the maps. I consider Spyro to be one of the great collect-a-thons due to how much fun it is to explore the levels, looking in every nook and cranny for gems. You can always go back later to collect everything and the game tracks the amount of collectibles you've already obtained, plus the total amount in every level, so you don't need to do research and it leads to a nice, relaxing experience.
• The music and sound effects. The gem pickup sound is just classic. Nuff said.

Crash would feel more significant in Smash, but I think Spryo has more potential given his flight and various abilities.

Admittedly that's coming from someone who enjoyed Reignited far more than the N'Sane Trilogy, so its possible my own bias is in play here.
