It's just Sakurai being an arcade boomer.

What? Why would Namco want to erase a separate spinoff?
That makes zero sense. They're different games by different teams.

It would be like erasing Pokémon Mystery Dungeon because Pokémon Picross flopped.

I still maintain that Rev Roll, Pellet Toss and Bounce would be better Smash attacks than summoning the ghosts.
True, but then again, Ghostly Adventures wasn't just a TV Series, it had a couple of Platformers as well. with The 3D One even getting a Sequel. So, with that association in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if NAMCO is trying to erase PAC-MAN World from existence.

So because people didn't like Sonic Forces we'll never get a 3D Sonic game again for the same reason. Gotcha, owner of the highest IQ known to man.

I think it’s far more likely a combination of Sakurai and Namco not particularly interested in PAC-MAN World elements because they’re associated with a modestly well liked series from the aughts and not the iconic early games that pop culture (then and now) is actually familar with.

That makes no sense at all. The two series are completely different, and World was well-liked, to boot.

Erasing a modestly successful series from existence because a completely different one failed, just because they're both the same genre would be one of the dumbest decisions a company could make.

I can understand the Pac-Land being easier to keep than Maze due to the programming, but I'm not sure if I would call Land iconic. Definitely not more iconic than the originals, at least.

Which would you pick?

characters because I hardly play online and everyone else would be excited for both anyway
Losing out out Jungle Hijinx stings because it was the only major piece of Retro DKC representation that Smash had.

Now all the Retro era of DKC has left at this point are a few spirits and music rips.
I was confused because Country Returns isn't retro but then I realised you meant Retro Studios lol

?

Jungle Hijinx is from Donkey Kong Country Returns, and Kongo Jungle, Kongo Falls, and Jungle Japes are all based on classic Donkey Kong Country albeit as more general inspirations.

With PAC-Land I think that’s just Smash’s general affection for old school and particular retro titles. The same thinking that got is the Ice Climbers could easily explain how something like PAC-LAND popped up.

well Ice Climbers specifically were chosen for the duo gimmick, and before that they wanted a character to represent the NES, so what console is Pac-Land representing?

Likely the arcade era, which is what PAC-Man's content is laser focused on to the point where his series should be called Namco Arcade instead. In fact, I think the only console stuff he has are the appearance of Heihachi and Don-chan in his Up Taunt, and even then Tekken and Taiko no Tatsujin are both are still arcades as well, just newer ones.

One thing I’ve been a little underwhelmed by in Ultimate is that many of the new stages are kind of boring layout wise. I think this is one area that Melee excelled at. Stages like Hyrule Temple were a lot of fun to play around on. Most new stages feel like Battlefield with a gimmick. I really want to see a stage that takes a section from an actual level from either Mega Man or Donkey Kong Country similar to the Brawl Super Mario Bros. stage but not necessarily needing to scroll through the stage, just a smaller static section.

I’m actually really surprised there has never been a TETRIS stage. It is an iconic game that would fit a stage perfectly. That was the first thing I made sure to do in Stage Builder.

Rollback is the one that should be added, but my biased, speculation obsessed brain makes me choose Volume 3. I don't want the show to end.

I’m not that great at Smash so I probably wouldn’t play much online anyways. While it would be nice to have better online, I would choose more characters personally. I would take a new Subspace Emissary or other co-op story mode before either though.

I think it's mostly a coincidence, though it could have something to do with stages being made for characters rather than because of there being an idea for one. We do have new stages that aren't a single platform with some semisolid platforms on top in New Donk City Hall and Moray Towers (Gerreg Mach Monastery also isn't this, but it's a flat stage with walk-offs on all three transformations instead so not sure if that counts), but others are either based off of a flat area (Great Plateau Tower, Dracula's Castle, Yggdrasil's Alter, & Spring Stadium) or were made flat just because (Minecraft World, likely for the ease of customizing the biomes, though it's not really a flat stage when hazards are on, King of Fighter's Stadium, which is flat in order to hearken back to the original games, and Northern Cave). Then there's Mementos and Cloud Sea of Alrest which aren't flat, but aren't too terribly wacky either. In the case of Cloud Sea of Alrest, there really wasn't a better choice there.

EDIT: Dracula's Castle actually adds more to the area from the original game.

In case people have forgotten, the Banjo, Terry and Byleth amiibos released today.
It's a shame that I can't seem to preorder them online (at least on EB Games or Best Buy) - I'd really like to have the Banjo and Terry amiibos. Even if they don't have much practical use compared to the Wii U era, it's still nice to get official merchandise for characters like that.

I think Sakurai and the team were well aware of the many complaints about how overly wild and gimmicky Brawl's and especially Smash 4's stages were. Hence why all the new stages are much more simplier in comparison, and there also being a stage hazard toggle as well as FD/Battlefield skins for every stage.

Like if Banjo & Kazooie were base Smash 4 newcomers, Gruntilda would of absolutely been an abstrusive stage hazard/boss on Spiral Mountain like Metal Face or Yellow Devil instead of just being in the background.

Fruit Basket's one I think would be cool and easy to translate to Smash.
Of course, making the road bounce less often and give warnings would be needed to make the stage less infuriating.
Looks interesting... maybe that blue face floor could make fighters launch up when they are near the fruit and the face at the same time.

Worldwide Top 3 Tales of
1. Tales of Symphonia 2,400,000
2. Tales of Vesperia 2,370,000
3. Tales of Destiny 1,720,000
It around the order I thought it was, though to be honest it was never a fair contest considering symphonia and vesperia have remasters ontop of their normal game sales compared to the other games in the series that are going off the initial sales alone. That being said, the gap between Vesperia and Symphonia is alot smaller then I thought. If I were to guess, it is probably because the Vesperia remake released on all 3 consoles and the PC, vs the Symphonia remake that released on playstation and PC, essentially ignoring the market (Nintendo) that made Symphonia a success to begin with. That being said, it is good to finally have some numbers for the Tales of series. These new polls are kind of a game changer in terms of smash arguments, since these numbers shows Symphonia isn't as far ahead in sales as we thought and the popularity poll from a week ago shows Yuri isn't as infallible in terms of popularity as we thought.

Yeah, I agree that Smash and a few Brawl stages went too far in the opposite direction. The stages are cool to look at but kind of annoying to play on. That’s why I felt Melee had the perfect balance. The stages had really interesting layouts overall but none of them had annoying gimmicks or were so huge that you couldn’t tell what was going on. Smash 64 was another example where I feel they got the stages just right. Most other games feel like they’re pulling too far in either direction. I think that because they went out of their way to make Final Destination and Battlefield versions of every stage should have allowed them to make the base stage’s layouts more interesting and not have to worry about tournament legality.

Could I have Smash Run back and a Boss Select Mode instead? I don't do online enough to care about it and the interest in characters only lasts for so long. Can I get some Single-player content that can add lots of replayability instead?

Also tonight, Sakurai was showing off his R.O.B. used in Brawl as a reference and was nonstop chattering about Darius for like 40 mins.
Silver Hawk ship confirmed for FP11 :4pacman:
In all serious, I hope no one actually thinks this means we're going to get something from Darius. Out of all the Taito games that would be a weird pick.

What baffles me honestly is that they didn't include Tropical Freeze's boss music. Granted, they might've been concerned that said boss music would've clashed with the DKC aesthetic... but that doesn't work IMHO since one can argue that DKC having a different genre repped in its music would be refreshing for a lot of people.

Case in point:

Worldwide Top 3 Tales of
1. Tales of Symphonia 2,400,000
2. Tales of Vesperia 2,370,000
3. Tales of Destiny 1,720,000
I've gotta ask: Source? I wouldn't be surprised if that was indeed the case, but still.

Well, alright then. Not the LoL rep I expected, but I'll take it. :4pacman:
First Death's Scythe and now a Guillotine? What's next, an Axe?
We better protect Luigi (and his ghost) from these madmen. :4pacman:

On a sidenote... dear God, a character that deals damage over time with every attack, heals with a special, slows with another and has a pseudo-hook?

Boy, can't wait to see how the community would react to that. :4pacman:

I wish they would have added a lot more DKC and Tropical Freeze music in general. There are so many amazing songs from those games and it’s a shame that we ended up with 10 versions of the first stage theme instead. I’m glad we got two great K. Rool themes this time at least. Brawl’s K. Rool theme was a little lacking.
