Which one do you miss the most?

There was a problem fetching the tweet
Of these 4 stages, the one I personally miss the most is poke floats but the one I find a more baffling omission is Rainbow Road.

Like, Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's bigger franchises, and Rainbow Road is always supposed to be THEE track of any Mario Kart, with it always being the trickiest and the last track you ever race on (last original non-retro one anyways). This plus the fact that I don't think there is anything about the track that would have been hard to port over to Ultimate...why not bring it back?

  • Rainbow Road
  • PAC-MAZE
  • Wooly World
Yes, these are Sm4sh stages, but they're still fun.

Anyways:

A whole year already. I'm still happy they at least didn't go with Spring Man and that's not my love of Min Min speaking

I guess it's because it's where you go when you die, and they couldn't have death in a Nintendo game.

They gonna bring it back when they add in Waluigi of course

So why is it in Mario Kart?

3) Crafty World
Actually, that's Wooly World. Crafty World is what black Yoshi died for. :toadnaani:

EDIT: Ya know, if they added Wooly Yoshi instead of Crafted Yoshi, and he could turn opponents into embroidered yarn balls instead of eggs, that might have been worth loosing black Yoshi.
EDIT EDIT: Bonus points if Steve, Alex, Zombie, and Enderman's yarn "balls" were cubes.

What would be a good stage for Arle...? 🤔
Missed this post yesterday but not too late to give an answer right?

Puyo isn't exactly known for its memorable locations, but I'd say there's one that stands out above the rest.

Some form of tower appears in several games through the series (even dating back to the Madou series), usually climbed up as a means of progress and increasing difficulty. In Puyo 2, arguably the most important game in the series, it's the main focus for the game's single player mode. I imagine the stage could travel upward not unlike Lumiose City or New Donk City, but take pit stops on each floor with cameos from various Puyo opponents. Or perhaps it just takes place on the bottom, and Carbuncle can knock out each floor from underneath with his mallet.

I think it's likely that Sakurai would take heavy inspiration from Puyo 2 for the series' Smash representation. Similarly to Street Fighter 2, it's the foundation for what the series would become and one of the biggest arcade games of its time. With the tower being the central location of that game, it seems like the obvious choice on top of its consistent prevalence throughout the series (here's another from Puyo Fever 2).

Rainbow Road's absence is particularly strange when you consider the fact that it was the scene of one of the goddamned reveal trailers, lol
There wasn't even a reason for it to be gone, maybe it was just development time? Or will Sakurai be damned to let Mario Kart 7 be in this game?

The weirdest thing about Pac-Maze's exclusion is that Pac-Man is the only third party character that's missing their most iconic location as a stage.

Also, slightly off-topic, but I'll never get why Pac-Land got all those references while World got none. Is Land popular in Japan or something?
Nah. It's mostly because of how badly Ghostly Adventures flopped, causing NAMCO to want to erase PAC-MAN World from existence lol.

I guess it's because Pac-Land is a side-scrolling platformer that predates Super Mario Bros., so it has historical value. (also, Pac-Maze's main gimmick seems to rely on each player having their own screen, like they did in the 3DS version. Not sure why they couldn't change that, but I believe that's what's been stated)

Not sure why Pac-Man World got nothing, though - you'd think it would provide material for one special, at least.

It's just Sakurai being an arcade boomer.

What? Why would Namco want to erase a separate spinoff?

That makes zero sense. They're different games by different teams.

It would be like erasing Pokémon Mystery Dungeon because Pokémon Picross flopped.

I still maintain that Rev Roll, Pellet Toss and Bounce would be better Smash attacks than summoning the ghosts.

These are probably the reasons for each stage's absence:
  • Flat Zone: Redundant with Flat Zone X.
  • Flat Zone 2: Redundant with Flat Zone X.
  • Icicle Mountain: It was unpopular, and likely would have had to have been re-imagined a bit.
  • Jungle Hijinxs: There may have been issues with Stage Morph (though I think there are workarounds).
  • Miiverse: Miiverse no longer exists so what's the point?
  • Mushroom Kingdom: Probably just wasn't a priority. It wouldn't have been that difficult since Mushroom Kingdom 2 is here.
  • Mute City: Large stage that might have had to have been re-imagined to some extent since you can't mask things with fog and stuff anymore.
  • Orbital Gate Assault: Since this stage took 4 years to develop, it might have been too large to touch up with everything else they were doing.
  • PAC-Maze: Used the 3Ds's capabilities for its main gimmick. I think you could work around this, but they decided not to.
  • PictoChat: Likely wasn't a priority since PictoChat 2 is a thing.
  • Planet Zebes: Likely just outprioritized. Might have been left out because Brinstar has the same gimmick.
  • Poké Floats: Likely out-prioritized due to how complicated it is.
  • Pyrosphere: Definitely just wasn't a priority. Ridley being a fighter is probably not an issue since fighter Ridley and stage boss Ridley aren't the same entity.
  • Rainbow Road: The original was probably made possible by stealing the assets from Mario Kart 7, which wouldn't be possible here.
  • Rumble Falls: Unpopular, so it was probably low on the priority list.
  • Sector Z: A bit redundant, as it is essentially just larger Corneria.
  • Wooly World: Likely just outprioritized.

I believe it was in one of his columns, but I wouldn't know where to start looking to find it.

At the same time, it has its own drawings, so why didn't they do PictoChat X?
Probably the same reason why they didn't add PictoChat at all; it just wasn't a priority. I'd imagine if the previous game had Flat Zone 2 instead of Flat Zone X, Flat Zone would still be stuck in Melee for similar reasons.
