I wonder if it would be best to have a stage spanning the whole Summoner's Rift and travel between lanes. Dunno how Dota's works, but aren't there other kinds of camps in the jungle compared to LoL? Maybe that could be an interesting hazard. That or the donkeys (or whatever you call them) bringing items to the field.
And wasn't there a mob that dropped an item called Cheese? Maybe I'm completely misremembering, but I have vague memories of hearing that from a friend.
About Nashor, yeah, the inspiration is so blatant that Nashor's name is literally an anagram of Roshan's. Seriously, how did they get away with that?
...Wait, names being anagrams of counterparts... , ARE WE BACK TO ** KH LORE!?
Speaking of, I also tend to consider Twilight Town. It appears in most games (except KH, BBS and DDD, if I remember correctly) and arguably works better for cameos than Dive.
That was not my intent actually this time! To this day, I have no idea why the anagram managed to survive.
Roshan also drops the Cheese from the second time he dies in a match onward alongside the Aegis. The Cheese is a super-powerful one-use instant heal, so it can turn around fights in one go itself. In more recent patches, the Dota 2 devs have introduced a couple new items that Roshan has a chance of dropping from the third death onward (
with the fourth death guaranteeing both items in addition to the Aegis and Cheese):
*Refresher Shard (a one-use variant of the Refresher Orb - restores all Cooldowns to 0 except itself, has a long CD itself). Extremely powerful in the hands of a hero who has a bonkers spell on normally high CD. The Refresher Orb costs a lot - and has a really high mana cost - for a reason.
* A free Aghanim's Sceptre: an item that gives a slight boost to all three primary stats + HP, but most importantly permanently upgrades a spell - some heroes gain an additional spell when they get a Sceptre. The Aghanim's dropped by Rosh is infused into the hero and thus doesn't take up an item slot for the hero. The normal Sceptre costs quite a lot, and it costs even more to infuse it into the Hero, so a free late game upgrade that doesn't take an item slot (the Aegis, Cheese and Shard all take up slots) is really appriciated.
Both these items were added to Roshan's drop rate presumably because the Dota 2 devs tired of some late game matches going on for hours on end.
The longest pro Dota 2 game took 200 minutes, or 3 hours 20 minutes, excluding pauses. And that game was played in 2015 - when Roshan only dropped Aegis and Cheese at max. Those two and other additions intended to put an end to absurdly long games did quite a lot, TBF, absurdly long games aren't as common now IIRC.
The donkeys are the standard Couriers (they can be upgraded to Flying Couriers). Of course, Courier skins can be and has been included into the Steam shop, such as a Chocobo courier to coincide with Type-0's Steam release, and Amaterasu appeared as a Courier when Okami HD released on Steam.
Classically, Dota (and Dota 2) had one Courier per team, but that lead to a whole lot of griefing, awkward sharing and even some issues in pro games, so now there's one Courier per player in the game.
