Speaking of spiritual successors to classic action platformers, have any of y'all ever played The Messenger? It’s a platformer/metroidvania styled after Ninja Gaiden. High key, it’s one of the best platformers I’ve ever played. I probably enjoyed it more than any Ninja Gaiden game, and I might even say it’s my absolute favorite metroidvania.

Here's a track from it that would be perfect for Smash:
Yeah, I know the game! I've heard almost nothing but praise about The Messenger. It is definitely a game I'd like to check out in the future.

The track you shared is really cool, by the way.

But Splatoon 3 opened with "Not actual gameplay footage" :4pacman:
Obviously, Nintendo is trolling us with Wii U style graphics as Splatoon 3 will be on Switch Pro and thus have Pixar quality visuals.

This is one of those trailers where I almost immediately knew who the character was. As soon as I realized it was related to XC2 and I saw Rex, my mind went to Pyra.

Four out of five times they hold off on the chosen character rather than immediately show who they are, so I figured Rex must've not gotten in if he was the central character in the beginning.

Speaking of that, did anyone else immediately know it was Joker in Smash then? I didn't know anything "going ons," with Persona, and never paid much attention to it, so I didn't really expect there to be any other types of announcements. Also, something about the dialogue tipped me off early on, like it felt to obviously hinting at Smash.
The ESRB rating tipped me off. The trailer had a E10+ rating even though Persona 5 was M rated. I noticed that while watching TGA with my friends and I suspected it was Smash. I wasn't certain but I remember bringing that up and I was right.

If you're looking for another challenging platformer, then I can't recommend it enough. I feel like it's often overlooked given its generic title and blatant Ninja Gaiden influence, but it really is something special. It has lots of original ideas and surprising twists in both story and gameplay.

Okay so like, if that person who's posting on Gfaqs really is Mike Pollock (I'm sure it is), Eggman is basically disconfirmed.
Not really. Super Smash Bros. often re-uses voice clips, with Sonic recycling voice clips from various games using Roger's voice such as Sonic Generations, although re-using Sonic's drowning sound from Jason Griffith's lines recorded for Brawl, so if Dr. Eggman was going to appear in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or any Smash games, its highly likely that they would just re-use voice clips from various games Mike Pollock voiced him in, thus Mike wouldn't know about it.

He also didn't confirm or deconfirm anything, simply stating he wouldn't talk about it once again.

Random thought:
If Rayman ever becomes a playable fighter (I'm 90% convinced he's either a Fighter or Deluxe Mii Brawler), I hope that his "gimmick" is that his aerial moves stop all momentum as they come out so he stays in place(imagine Jigglypuff's Pound). That's how Rayman's aerial moves work in Rayman Legends. That would make him the king of aerial combat, which would be fitting for a Platforming mascot.
I'd actually hope he's based more on Rayman 1 than Origins/Legends for his general punches, just tossing out his fist that then comes back to him. It's uniquely Rayman and can't be replicated by anyone else, while his moves in the newer games are mostly just regular punches and kicks. Some newer moves could be squeezed in, the kick he does in the air would make for a great bair, and the slam is perfect dair material, but otherwise his jab and nair should be:

When I saw the cliffs I had to double take because I thought they were about to start and end with Smash.

I have actually beaten this game last year.
Quite a fun title!

Why not both and make this a Special move? Regular A moves are generally more quick and jabby like the punches in Legends.
A slower boomerang punch could easily work as a Side-B like Link and K. Rool's Side-B boomerangs.

I honestly wasn't thinking anything when the Splatoon 3 trailer started because Skyward Sword HD (and most of the Direct) kind of had me deflated a bit. But once it went on just a little longer, I could tell it was Splatoon 3.

I'm kinda in the camp that telescopic fist would make a great special but if done right I'd be down for it being his jab and nair. I also wouldn't mind some origins legends moves but part of me hopes sakurai looks at Rayman's limblesa properties and uses his creative freedom to put together some bizarre moves no one else can do!

Mega Man. :ultmegaman:

Rayman's fists are central to his kit, and he throws out his fist plenty quick as seen in the GIF. Having his normal punch be a special move would be kinda weird and would eat up a spot that could be used for his other stuff like the charge shot from 2 or one of the washing powders from 3.

He could have the punch combo from Legend as a forward air like Bayonetta while his nair does the telescopic business. One way to do it would be to limit him to what he has, two fists, let him toss out two nairs quickly but then the move does nothing until his fists return, sort of an Olimar if his pikmin were projectiles that came back and were also fists. This would also make his other moves (besides kicks) useless while his fists are flying, making it a strategic decision of when and how to punch.

I'm kinda in the camp that telescopic fist would make a great special but if done right I'd be down for it being his jab and nair. Just feels like a terribly wasted opportunity to make his punch a special move when it's... not. It's just his normal means of attack.

I wish I could monetize my preternatural intuition as when to a trailer will or won't be for Smash from the first few seconds, but unfortunately it's an absolutely useless skill in 99.9999999% of situations. xD

Closest thing would be streaming myself screaming like a lunatic in a low-cut top whenever something happens. But nah.

Call me a dumdum but I had no idea the trailer was smash. And I'm actually glad for that because it made the reveal that much more awesome and exciting for me. I was just confused and thought maybe it was more content for XC2; I honestly didn't know what to think.

But screaming at Smash reveals is a legit money making strategy. :4pacman:

I actually thought Splatoon 3 was going to be a single player spin-off game. Then they took off the cape and I got mildly disappointed because I don't care for shooters.

Don't ask me why I expected a Splatoon related game to not be a shooter. I was having a rough day.

I didn't realize it until, like, the 3rd time Rex was like, "Where has she gone?" And then I was like, "Oh goddamnit, she's in Smash..."

I'd kill for a single player Sploon spinoff. I loved everything about Sploon besides... the gameplay. I mean, it was fun, but I far prefer a good single player experience to a multiplayer one and the campaign was kinda lacking.

The irony of saying this on a Smash forum does not escape me. Bring back Subspace.
