Still think it’s gonna be a new Japanese company or sega themselves. Every other Japanese third party company either has a rep In this pass or has had new mii costumes brought in during this pass which probably doesn’t deconfirm those companies but it probably hurts them because you’d think they’d leave them till their character was revealed.

Sega, koei tecmo or level 5 is who I’m sticking my money on being last but if I had to say who I think is likelier I’d put it In the order of (going from most likely to least likely

sega, koei tecmo, level 5

just my personal opinion though so don’t get offended.
I feel like Arc System Works has a pretty good chance. I don't know what the odds are that we'll get two fighting game series in a row, but Guilty Gear (or BlazBlue, if they go with that route) is very different from Tekken in terms of style, and we got a TON of JRPGs in Smash 4's DLC and FP1 (especially if we count veterans), so they have no issues with doubling up on characters from the same genre.

I could see a trailer starting out like a cutscene in Guilty Gear Xrd or Strive, making people think that either of those games are coming to Switch, only for "Here Comes Daredevil!" to flash across the screen and Mario to show up instead of a Guilty Gear character. (I might be mixing up my Guilty Gear games; I'm not very familiar with the franchise, but the point is that I wouldn't count ArcSys out)

Don't forget that they've got Beat Em Up candidates too, in Kunio (even though he's a spirit) and the Lee twins from Double Dragon.

Yeah, that's true; it's kind of weird that we haven't gotten a single beat-em-up character playable in Smash yet, at least to my knowledge.

Indeed it is.
I said this yesterday, but I'll say it again:
I'm on team "SEGA's got a shot at this last spot" for CP11, and if we ignore (IMHO) the frontrunner that is another Sonic rep, Gillius Thunderhead and Axel Stone are two great Beat Em Up / SEGA characters.
Axel's more likely to me because SOR4 came out in April 2020 (and digressing, but it was a hit with 2.5 million copies sold as of this past April), thus making him more relevant

I'll take the Castle Crashers too..

I personally felt that Sephiroth's reveal was even more hype than Cloud's due to:

A) As much of a surprise longshot as Cloud was, Seph seemed even less likely to a lot of people (myself included)
B) Higher budget/better cutscene animations
C) The epic nod to Advent Children with the comedic Mario touch

Don't get me wrong, Cloud's reveal was hype AF and def a close second, but so far, I'd say Seph's was the best of all smash reveals thus far.
The moment for me was when he basically offed the game's boss who only Kirby could escape (not fight, flee haha) and is like oh that thing? Whatever, where my boy at? We have some unfinished... business.

In fact years ago in previous discussions the idea that Ganondorf was the most evil villain was challenged with Sephiroth or Kefka because the FF villians do f'd up **** that only the likes of hideo kojima could top (mind I believe he sacrificed
quality storytelling for shock value and was booted eventually, but that's another discussion.)

And I'll admit when Mario was hanging I'm wait what? .... But then I'm relieved and laughing when he's just having fun.

But yeah so my personal favorite is Kazuya cause it's the Tekken rep I always wanted but out out of my mind bc heihachi and all that....

Off this topic anyone dig Virtua Fighter? Sega needing a rep but if Sonic is overlooked or played out or whatever then maybe upgrade Akira AT or go Kage or Lion or someone... Lei Fei was my main I had the top score on the VF4 Evolution cabinet at the President Casino on Biloxi Beach before hurricane Katrina sent it to the bottom of the sound. But yeah there's a chance vf5 edition for Switch...

I'd love for it to be a new Japanese "company", myself...

That's a cool idea. I always have a hard time imagining a good idea for a Sol Badguy trailer reveal, the only thing I was very sure about was Sol using his Dragon Install at some point of the trailer.

I'd assume said trailer wouldn't be a CGI like Sephiroth's, but more like Pyra's and Mythra's. So they would be using or at least, replicating the visual style of GG (either GG Xrd or Strive). For that maybe Arc System Works would have to work closely with Sakurai for the trailer, in a similar way to Monolith Soft with Pyra and Mythra. But I think it would be super worth it and a very interesting aesthetic for a Smash trailer.

Like, imagine a Smash trailer where we could see Mario, Pikachu and other Smash characters with this aesthetic

I wonder what stage he would have?

And with that said, how likely is Eggman, anyway?
i’d assume eggman empire or maybe the space colony ark since that’s what commonly appeared through a lot of the sonic games. Off the top of my head it appeared in

sonic adventure 2
Shadow the hedgehog
Generations
Sonic x
mario and sonic London 2012
Sonic rivals as a cameo

I think it’s the only place from past 3D sonic games to get commonly used or brought up

as for how likely…… who knows. It’s anyone’s guess.

I was thinking more of Scrap Brain. Though we do have Green Hill from the same game, so if not, Metropolis from Sonic 2, or Death Egg from Sonic 3.

Wanna ask something. If sega was the last spot. Sega specifically, who do you think would be the last spot and why.
Probably another Sonic rep or a Phantasy Star rep at this point. I have a gut feeling it wouldn't be Puyo or Yakuza, and SMT is kind of in a tight schedule considering we might even get the CP11 reveal before SMTV releases (and thus Nahobino would be a level of red carpet that Nintendo has never shown a third party newcomer before).

Like, imagine a Smash trailer where we could see Mario, Pikachu and other Smash characters with this aesthetic
Sakurai: "We know that Sol's stage is a bit lacking in cameos and his song selection might not be as big as some of you were hoping, but let me explain:"

"That's only because we blew all our budget in paying ArcSys to animate that trailer for us, with multiple Smash characters in full Strive style."

...

"...What, you think that **** was cheap!?"

Hmm... Sega only as in not co developed like Alex Kidd or Sega only as in only Playable on Sega systems?

Actually that's probably moot. It's almost certain at this point a Sega rep would be another Sonic character and eggman fits the recent villain trend...

To be fair sega being last makes sense for a bunch of reasons. I find the remix takedown interesting. I remember shadow the hedgehog had a smash remix taken down after jokers reveal.

It wasn’t all hail shadow which people would usually think, it was I am all I am from his game which nobody would usually think off.

Considering banjo, sans and Geno all had a remix taken down and then each got in smash in some way I wouldn’t be surprised if talks got FP2 were ongoing around jokers reveal and sega held talks with Nintendo and it resulted in a shadow mii costumes or a playable shadow.

banjo- had a remix taken down and then got in smash

sans- had a remix taken down and then got in smash as a deluxe mii costume and his theme that was taken down played over his costume

Geno - got a remix taken down and got in smash as a mii with his theme playing over his mii costume.

like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if negotiations were ongoing around jokers reveal since the pass was “supposedly” chose in 2018 and shadows track was taken down because he was getting mii’d somewhere in this pass or being upgraded to playable.

I still think Phantasy Star has a decent chance. Phantasy Star was the series that inspired Sakurai to become a game developer and I could easily see Phantasy Star as being Pack 2's "Terry" in that it's a game series that important to Sakurai, much like how Fatal Fury was a major inspiration for Smash Bros.
It also helps that Phantasy Star has been getting pushed in the West thanks to Phantasy Star Online 2 finally releasing in the West and New Genesis also coming out to both Japan and the West.

But at this point, I'm all for almost about anyone being the final character.

any sega character as long as it’s not from someone they own. Has to be an official sega character. For example it can’t be an atlus character because it’s a company they just own, it’s not apart of sega if that makes any sense

What villain trend? We only got a another villain after Sephiroth because Tekken's main trio are all villains.

I mean atlus is pretty much a in-house Sega studio at this point

yeah but they work separately from sega. It’s like how joker got the atlus trademark on the smash page rather than coming under the sega trademark because atlus is separate from sega, it’s just something sega own.

Sorry probably poor word choice on my part because pyra came out before Kazuya anyway so no not trend... Hm...

What I'm referring to is more a personal observation that we have 3 heroes and 2 villians (unless we actually don't agree Steve, Min Min and Pyra are "good guys/faces")... I've felt through my own ocd-ness that this fp should end with the ultimate villian but maybe not.... Maybe it'll be an ultimate hero.

The trademarks are for marketing reasons only. You play a Persona game and expect the Atlus logo to appear the same way you watch a Star Wars movie and expect the Lucas Film logo to appear. Otherwise its all SEGA Sammy's entertainment division now at this point.

Pointed out a while before that Kaneko Artbooks no longer has his copyright anymore meaning he sold the complete rights to his designs to SEGA/ATLUS now. Dante's devil trigger form also had his copyright as well so im not sure how Sega/Atlus owning it affects them but Dante didnt have the same trigger design in DMCV.
