I don’t care for Hayabusa in the slightest but you don’t see me putting people down for it!
I didn't put you down. I put that hypothetical pass down.

You are not those characters.

This sounds like a fun game. If you could add 3 bosses to Ultimate, who would they be?
Top 3 eh?
Mother Brain [Metroid]
Dr. Wily piloting Wily Machine [Mega Man]
Eggman piloting Death Egg Robot [Sonic the Hedgehog]

Geese Howard or Rugal Bernstein almost made the list, but I feel like including either of those two would make classic mode runs and World of Light playthroughs much more frustrating.
They're also a lot like playable characters. I feel like if characters like that are to be bosses, then they should also be playable. Kind of like an Akuma vs. Shin Akuma kind of thing.

See people talk about that regarding bosses and I'm a tad conflicted. Marx is one of my favorite characters out there - Kirby Super Star Ultra is an absolute bangin' gem of a game. I wanted him a lot but with him as boss - I kind of think that was a better spot for him? I like him being playable in Kirby Star Allies - my first solo Soul Melter EX run was with him, even - but he was done so much better justice as a boss in Smash.

Sakurai recently mentioned how he had to be toned down in the creepy department - and even then he's still wonderfully unsettling. I'd have loved to be a fly on the wall to see the drafts for that...

Sorta unrelated but I can't help but laugh whenever I see a character unfairly dismissed as a generic anime swordsman because one of my most-wanted characters is pretty much just a generic anime swordsman

I don't get a say in this matter
I mean, considering how characters are called "generic anime swordsman" despite
  1. Having distinct designs
  2. Having a design that's unrelated to mainstream anime
  3. Having weapons other thsn swords
  4. Not being men
I think you can safely say that it's a term with zero meaning and you should be allowed to ignore users who say it unironically.

A few days ago I was actually pondering Galacta Knight as a boss.
Maybe a sort of Melee-esque adventure mode that usually ends with Master Hand & Crazy Hand rather than giant Bowser.

Meeting certain criteria, upon reaching Final Destination, Master Hand draws a little hole in the sky which he then peels off - kinda like how he tears a hole into the Final Battle in WoL. He'd chuckle a bit to himself as the crystal emerges, then Crazy Hand gives the crystal a hard flick of his finger, shattering it.

Galacta Knight gives a death glare to Crazy Hand, and Crazy then makes a beeline out of there. Master Hand just kinda stares, before getting sliced in half, a bit of swarm spilling out from him as he falls down below Final Destination. Cue the boss fight~

Here are my bosses:
  • Wily Teleport System
    • You battle 8 of the most popular Robot Masters in the series. Beating each one gives you an item that fires their weapon, and you can use it against the others to defeat them quicker. Dr. Wily can be at the end, or he can be in a separate fight entirely.
  • Magolor/Magolor Soul
    • A multiphase boss fight with the Super Copy Ability finisher replaced with your Final Smash. It's perfect.
  • Shin Akuma
    • Same as a hypothetical playable Akuma, but with unfair stats.
Smash fans aren't ready for Shin Akuma or Omega Rugal
I may not be ready but I'd love to see how they'd handle a boss like that.

Galacta Knight, Morpho Knight, and Dark Meta Knight are exceptions to my "they look like playable characters so they should also be playable if boss" line of thinking since they're basically just Meta Knight. Should definitely be skins though.

The latter two make some sense, as they can still be primarily associated with the sword even though they don't use it exclusively (like Byleth), and I'm pretty sure "swordsman" means "human with sword" rather than "male with sword". Like, even if we were talking about a girl we'd probably get weird looks if we said she was practicing her swordswomanship.

The former two are just people being silly. Anime isn't inherently generic. Of course, the title really means "anime swordsman that I don't like" rather than simply a generic one but what can ya do.

First time?

Granted, I've seen people rag on Sakura for other reasons, and I don't think "sword" was one of them.

Thankfully I haven't gotten any major complaints, but there's still the fact that Adol is an anime-styled medieval European swordfighter who's probably gonna get compared to Roy. Doesn't help that there's a chance he won't have any major gimmicks, unless we count having a rock band following him wherever he goes.

Though, there's still the chance he could pull a Terry and wow people with 50 songs (Though realistically I'd aim for just 30)

What y’all think about the Hyrule Warriors spirits in terms of a KT character? Think it makes their chances lower, higher, or no change at all?

In the Hayabusa thread there was a point that before we got Sephiroth we had random Square Spirit Events so could this mean that we might actually see Arc System Works get in since they had a random spirit event? I’m curious to hear y’all’s thoughts.

And I’ll be quite honest, Hayabusa and Sol Badguy being 2 of our last 3 is a ok with me.

I would just want them to bring back the bosses from Brawl more than anything. Had a blast with that boss rush mode.
I remember watching the World of Light Direct 2 years ago, I’m pretty sure the one of the biggest highlights of it for me and a lot of people in terms of the gameplay section for WOL was seeing that Galleom Boss Fight return.

Thing is Square already had two playable characters beforehand - Cloud and Hero. This is ArcSys and KT’s first pieces of content in the game, so IMO it doesn’t bode well. Same goes for Bethesda with the Vault Boy mii, and one might argue it doesn’t look good for Ubisoft with the Altaïr costume either

If nothing else, it proves those companies are already working with Sakurai.

Eh, no change. It has absolutely nothing to do with Ryu or Kasumi, and for a Dynasty Warriors character, it just means that their Spirit Board won't come with the spin-off characters save for maybe Lana, Cia, Volga, Rowan, and Lianna.

Well, I would make the argument that Mii Costumes are different than Spirits considering that Mii Costumes are what I consider the “Result” of talks while spirits are “Proof” of talks. While we mostly consider Mii Costumes as consolation prizes and Spirits as disconfirms right now seeing a disconfirm for Kunio but knowing they’re in talks with Arc bodes well for Sol but that’s just my thoughts on it. I could be completely wrong and our last 3 are completely unrelated to these two companies but it’s just something that was floating in my head.

Personally, seeing Nintendo having talks with ArcSys for random spirits is a little suspicious but who knows.

I personally don't think it makes much sense for Spirit Events to disconfirm a whole company. Mii Costumes, maybe, but not Spirit Events. For example, the River City series has nothing to do with the BlazBlue or Guilty Gear series, so there's no conflict there. As for the whole "why would they reveal a company's involvement before adding a character" argument, I'll answer that question with another question: "do the general public really care about the companies in a crossover or are they just here for the IPs?" Also, it's not like the SNK leak where we knew a company was getting added and also that it was going to have a fighter. Here we just know that they had a Spirit Event for one of their IPs.

I don't see why Nintendo wouldn't want to have a Koei Tecmo rep in this pass, unless Nintendo doesn't really view them as big as the other companies because they worked on Nintendo's IPs, thus not making them look equal. We did have SNK in Pass 1 so not being big enough shouldn't be an issue.

As for who they'd pick, I couldn't see it being anyone else other than Ryu Hayabusa since he's their cross over king as far as know, he'd be a retro rep if Sakurai is able to choose a rep and he's their most popular Koei Tecmo character, trumping all other requests that have been made from that company.
