They didn’t choose Heihachi because next Smash is Smash vs. PSASBR and they’ll both be included there.

Thank you for listening to my leaks.
Wait... would the Smash characters get PSASBR mechanics or would the PSASBR characters get Smash mechanics?
And would Final Smashes be needed to get KO’s?

It's all Super Smash Bros. stuff, but with a few new mechanics added.

PSABR Vs. Smash is the one with the PSABR mechanics.

Sadly, I don't think we'll ever get that far...

Yea I get that completely. There are just some people that contend he NEVER gives hints of any sort, especially when it comes to the PoTDs.
If your meaning is that referencing a game in a PotD can't be taken as a deconfirmation, then fine, I agree.

Of couse, I never thought it did. Just like I don't think tournaments deconfirm characters that would apply to those tournaments.

How similarly do Jin and Kazuya play in Tekken? If they are as close as Ryu and Ken, I could totally see a Jin echo happening in the next game. That would be cool.
In his early appearances, Jin uses Mishima style. In later games, he develops a new, unique style. But they added Devil Jin, who uses the old style.

I wonder which newly revealed games will get Spirit Events before they stop supporting Ultimate. They really shafted Advance Wars with 4 spirits (1 from Famicom Wars) and nothing else, so a few more COs would be deserved. Wario Ware also feels oddly light on new content considering we had Golden before Ultimate releashed and Get It Together towards the end of DLC but it's much too late for Wario Deluxe's Theme either way.

Maybe they'll pull something similar to the Pyra wave of Mii Costumes and have the last set all be upcoming Nintendo games that otherwise might miss out entirely.

I could see Metroid Dread getting a spirit event, if there are enough new characters.

Even just three new spirits would be enough.

Hm... interesting. I did not know it was always first-party. That makes me feel a little less confident.
Fwiw I do think Astral Chain will return with a sequel sooner than later (maybe even before Bayo 3 - that game seems to be languishing in development hell), and at that point its place on a future roster seems fairly assured.

Honestly I could have predicted Kazuya had I not thought that Heihachi was the only likely Tekken rep. I know every reveal magically makes sense in hindsight, but I knew we were gonna get a fighting game character as CP10, it was just a matter of who.

Lets review again the 20 best selling japanese IPs, excluding the one that were not originated in videogames (like Dragon Ball):

1) Final Fantasy
2) Sonic the Hedgehog
3) Resident Evil*
4) Dragon Quest
5) Monster Hunter*
6) Metal Gear
7) Tekken
8) Street Fighter
9) Pac-Man
10) Mega Man

11) Kingdom Hearts
12) Souls
13) Power Pros
14) Devil May Cry
15) Castlevania
16) Frogger
17) Simple
18) Tales
19) Megami Tensei (includes Persona)
20) Professor Layton

In bold are the IPs with representation in smash, and with * there are those who don’t have a playable character. As you can see, Tekken is the best selling (japanese) fighting IP worldwide. So I think it makes somewhat sense to include it in smash.
The lack of a Resident Evil character just keeps sticking out like a sore thumb. Atleast with Monster Hunter we can theorize this is still accurate (perhaps Capcom didn’t ask them for MvCI). But RE doesn’t have that problem & is crossing over with several big games this year alone.

I really wish Sakurai would talk about this once Ultimate is finished; RE had to have atleast been considered for a bit.

The background colours seem to be (roughly) mirrored between FP1 (and Piranha Plant) and FP2

Piranha Plant and Pyra/Mythra: green
Joker and Kazuya: red
Hero and ???: purple
Banjo and Min Min: yellow
Terry and Steve: blue
Byleth and Sephiroth: a different shade of green

Though it's almost definitely a coincidence, and the final character could wind up having an orange, brown, blue, etc. background. We have a tendency to see patterns everywhere.
Purple, huh? 😎

I’ve heard Frisk brought up as well & of course purple would fit Waluigi. Who else would this fit?

I want Waluigi in Smash but I don't believe this stupid color theory.

Also looking at the best selling games of all time won't help you figure out who's in Smash, they don't just go by that. Tekken got into Smash because it was a popular series from namco that would fit in Smash, not just because it was one of the highest selling series of all time. Namco was gonna get a character anyway. They didn't just look at the wikipedia page for the top selling games and say "oh, let's add Tekken to Smash"

Sales aren’t everything but they’re a good indicator of how beloved & important a series can be. Which is definitely the case for everything in that top 10. Resident Evil & Monster Hunter have shown that they can fit into fighting games perfectly too, so I think they would’ve been great in Smash.

It’s not foolproof, obviously, since there’s weird crap I’ve never heard of on there like Power Pros & Simple.

Anyway, having a playable Tekken character makes me believe we can get a Virtua Fighter character in a future Smash game.

I just think it would be fun to have an FGC character who actually doesn't have any fireballs but can do stuff like this:

They could go for Ryo since he learns several VF character moves

I have some ideas for the color purple:
  • Allie from Phantasy Star (also fits that Twitter theory about the byleth-pack 11 parallel of “disappointing sword user”)
  • Rayman
  • Spyro (would be a tad bit shocked if they picked him and not crash tho)
  • Waluigi
  • Toxtricity
  • Ahri AND / OR Pyke from League of Legends (edit : just Ahri)
  • Blaze the Hedgehog (edit : Cat)
Yep
Alis color is pink
Nei/Rika would fit the purple color more

Now that E3's past us, whoever is coming in the last slot isn't going to be anyone that sets the world on fire.

I think a Pokemon still feels like it would be the safest bet at this point. We got two new Pokemon games coming out in November and January. By the time FP11 is scheduled to be released you know The Pokemon Company is going to want those two pushed as hard as possible.

Best case scenario Sakurai would get to pick which one he adds, though at the least I could see them actively wanting him to choose something that can Gigantamax.

I used to fear the idea of Urshifu, but with Kazuya already in it feels like it would be pretty redundant.

There's been talk about Cinderace, but I still feel like a fighter based around ball kicking would be kind of awkward to play as.

Eh, I don't know if Ball-kicking would really be much worse than WFT's ball-headbutting. Not that I want Cinderace or another Pokemon rep myself, but I don't think a soccer inspired moveset or move would be that much of an issue.

Given how Sakurai outright gave Bowser a Smash-original kaiju form, I don't think he needs any pushing to add a Gigantamax Pokemon lol.

Shantae, though I think her ship has sailed. WayForward is getting closer and closer with Nintendo though, with them developing the remakes of Advance Wars and such.

I think Rayman is often associated with purple too but I'm just confused as to where Ubisoft stands atm.

..and also the fact that the color and character don't really need to match haha.

For all intents and purposes, Ubisoft is back on the menu. Now that Kazuya shows that Mii costumes don't de-confirm companies, Rabbids and the Assassins Creed one mean nothing to Rayman.

Trust me, I have no secret info or insight. But I've been poking at this and trying to rile up the community off and on for years. I'd love to see it happen, but it's going to be way above my pay grade. We just need to politely keep reminding Phil and Doug why this would be a perfect move. :) Also, the announcement of Minecraft characters coming over seems to give us a bit more hope?
Brian admitted he doesn't have any info. And Mojang community manager had no idea about Steve in Smash.

Wouldn’t You Like To Know?
I’m still super confused on the Mii Costume thing, why wouldn’t they save Heihachi for the Tekken pack? Do just have that many other Mii Costumes to showcase they decided to send Heihachi in early as a sort of Red Herring?

I’ve never believed in the whole “Nintendo is trying to throw us off!” Schtick but thats the best I’ve got.

The only other thing I can think of is that Nintendo thought Heihachi would sell better if revealed before the actual Tekken pack.

Also,
Namco has a mountain load of untapped potential. Not only from the fact they only have 1 character but also because a lot of their frontrunner series haven’t been deconfirmed. Except Tekken.
This aged well.

This pack has really destroyed some of my older posts. At this rate Geno will be the next fighter specifically to make my older posts laughably ironic.

You know.

I'm gonna go and say it.

I think Shantae is actually a likely candidate now.

Beforehand, I always saw her as a no hope but...

She fits a lot of criteria I suspect the last character will have.

  • Small third party franchise
  • Popular Smash pic (but not too popular)
  • A developer that is close to Nintendo
  • A reveal that would have been strange at E3
  • Potentially complex moveset that would have meant a long development time
She kinda fits all of that.

Who'd have thought?
