Im just throwing this out there, we got at worst 500 going to this, and the largest venue fee i've ever seen. 500 X $20 =$10,000. The sky will be falling before this place costs that much to rent for three days. I can see $1000 even $2000 to rent it. Do tell, where is the rest of that money going?

There was talk of mini-events and prizes too. Food, drinks, vip novelties, 3 pots for each major event = 12 pots. Among other things.

I will be paying pros to play me. Anyone want free money?

Thanks for posting about the prize money distribution. I could've sworn I wrote it somewhere into the 1st post, but it would seem that it's disappeared in the dozens of edits that have happened to it. Percentage-wise, it was going to be something like Top-8 for each event gets a monetary award; around the ballpark of 40%/25/15/10/3.5/3.5/1.5/1.5 . This is of course to compliment the sheer number of entrants expected to attend. And yes... our original pot estimate was around $10,000 (not including venue fees to fund the tourney). As the # of entrants has since risen far beyond what we originally expected...expect there to be a lot more cash up for grabs in this event.


Also: because this is America, you guys have every right to know just where the venue fee money is going, and why $20/person is needed for this. While I'm not going to start individually faxing our receipts to everyone, here's a breakdown of what our accrued costs will be for funding Genesis:

-Cost of the venue itself, for an 8,500 sq.ft. building in the Bay Area for 3 full days (~$4,000)
-Cost of electronics equipment needed (cable splitters, extension cords, power strips, extra AV cables, recording devices, etc)
-Cost of trophies to cover Top-3 for all 4 main events
-Cost of projection screens + projectors
-Cost of the professional Sound & Lighting systems
-Cost of ordering & producing event T-shirts
-Cost of stocking & supplying the food and concessions for 3 days
-Cost of staff-related items (megaphone, walkie-talkies, etc)
-And multiple other minimal expenses

While it IS true that we could have simply held this 500+ person tournament in someone's garage with 1 TV setup, and skimped on the venue fee completely... have full confidence in the knowledge that we're putting the venue fee money to good use; once you walk through those venue doors in just a few weeks, you'll know it was well-spent. =D

So under that assumption, many people (including myself) who are only entering brawl bought tickets to get there friday morning-afternoon. For example, i bought my plane ticket last friday under the assumption brawl could possibly start friday night or saturday morning.

I say this because I really do not want to miss any brawl events because of this schedule change after i bought a ticket. Its so much fun to blow 300 bucks to fly to cali and not do anything but watch people play.

so...yea, whatever you guys do, please try to keep brawl pools starting later on friday or possibly saturday morning. And also allow other people to pay for/sign up their friends for those people who wont be there at 7-9am on friday

This ^ yeah that would suck for people arriving late Friday for brawl because of the schedule change.
