Good characters yield more people using them, but that's only if they are really good, like high or top tier. Sonic is only doing well because a million people try to use him and are extremely zealous over him.

I'm especially liking the part where the only reason sonic has any points whatsoever is because of the sheer amount of people using him, far more than any other character. Literally millions.

I dont care that you think Sonic is a bad character. EVERYONE, even Sonic mains know hes a bad character. But you can not go on claiming the only reason he performs well in this chart is because so many people use him that it skews the results. Its clearly not the case.

true, the only way sonic could get those points is if there are a few fair sonics out there. popularity among the casuals and noobs has no (or shouldnt) efect on tourney results.

Sonic may be popular, but that only means an even smaller group of people who can take him far exist. It could also mean that for like every 25 people that play him, only 1 of them is half good with him.

If Sonic was so 'non tournament viable' it wouldn't matter how many people used him - he still wouldn't get results because he wouldn't get into the top 8. As it turns out though...

XD! No one at all has played him, so it's not a matter of sucking, it's also a matter of no one likes him.

Wow stop overreacting to about four weeks' worth of tournament data. I can only guess what would've happened if I released this last weekend when Falco was ABOVE Meta Knight.

Pity ZSS won't hold her 8th place unless Snakeee and Claw place well at another big tourney each. I fully expect GaW, Marth, ROB, Peach, Olimar, and Lucario to pass her before January is out.

Only good Sonic mains actually get placings though. In the same way that bad DK's/Toon Link's/Falcon's don't got top 8's, neither do Sonic's. Part of that is down to Sonic being a very bad character at low levels at play, but he has lots of tools and has more options then most of the cast at a higher level.

He's a difficult character to play, due to his B moves having more depth to them then most characters entire movesets. Generally, it's only fanboys who play Sonic, who aren't going to bother learning the techniques that make him tourney viable, so they're just going to go fail at tournaments.

Sonic has a lot of people playing him, yeah, if you count 10 year old scrubs who don't attend tournies as people in this context.

Could be worse... Could be ZSS. There's like 10 people who visit the boards regularly, and only half have placed at all. At least sonic has a fanbase.

Snakeee and Dazwa are the only 2 I can think of who have contributed to this list with more than a couple tourneys

I haven't seen Spec on this list... maybe I missed him

Sparrow places I think, But I have only seen his tourneys here twice, same with FadedImage and Claw
