LOL grieving time not over scrw yu

Empty hop grab is real good, especially by the edge. People always expect an aerial from Marth, but as usual not doing anything is pretty good with this character.

There Max there is a thing.

you told me it was the best you'd ever played and that m2k just legitimately outplayed your best anyway

also i'm an elephant

this thread is dead. there's no one to make fun of and nothing to talk about.

kevin falco and marth are both solved characters imo. take the bait, you won't.

that is not what I said!!!!

Marth and Falco are far from solved imo. I see it more with Falco because I have played him longer.

Marth stands to see improvement in his zoning game combined with his movement game. Marths have to stop trying to go hit people =(

Falco....man so much to say about this one lol. Falco needs to have an improved vertical game(much is implied in this like platform lasers) and probably better edgeguarding/juggling setups because right now he seems weaker at them in this metagame. At least, that's what a lot of Falcos including myself look like.

Additionally, the tools which Falco and Marth use have yet to be fully understood(pivot/indirect threats from Marth and FHs/laser movement and pokes from Falco) and applied very well by extension.

The characters could not be solved until the game is better understood and we haven't tapped into that well enough yet imo.

Why does it feel so jank trying to play neutral with Sheik sometimes, but her punishes are so consistent that I'm like "yeah, that's redeeming for me." Then with Marth his neutral feels so solid but his punishes feel pretty lackluster a lot of the time (especially on Dreamland).

i've always felt like sheik's punishment game is lacking actually. combo DI makes things really difficult for her after conversion, and she already has a lot of problems approaching hard.

Tech chase on spacies and then a really good positional game in the ditto and vs Marth/Peach? after hit is pretty great imo.

Sheik's neutral is weird because her dash and perhaps WD are so short and her zoning tools are slower and generally more defensive. That's how it feels to me anyway.

I want to take a guess at that. . .

Depending on how big of an opening you get, you will probably want to put yourself into a position where you can lead them into making mistakes as you rack up damage, and maintain/improve your position. You probably will want to put yourself into situations where you aren't at risk and can stay more set up (keeping them having to respond to your moves, rather than them responding to yours.) than they are.

I don't know if that is even what you were wanting.

This is just my thoughts on it (probably largely formed by regurgitating KK posts), your (Umbreon) thoughts on Shiek's punishment game are probably more developed than mine.

I dunno you just kind of **** them.

Against most characters you can CG them situationally (if they DI the d-throw away so you do that vs Marth and a bunch of others). So if you can CG them either independent of their DI or under the aforementioned condition then you do it until you can't and then switch to dash attack into stuff or slap them offstage. If they DI the throw elsewhere then you hit them with up moves and **** them with juggles.

Floaties you just dribble them.

What are Marth's best options for di'ing sheik's throws (dthrow specifically)? And what strategy would you recommend when playing against a good sheik. I have the tendency to just try and uthrow into uair juggles until I can get a tipper.

I guess diagonally up and away would be the best way to DI the dthrow then right before the fair hits DI the opposite way. My general strategy against sheik is basically abuse my movement game and try and force her to do something first and punish with a grab preferably. Dtilt really comes in handy just use it intelligently. Also crouch canceling her tilts kind of ***** her. Some thing's to be weary of is if your opponents start trying to overshoot their grab/ dash attack. Most Marths will always dash away after certain instances such as (landing with an aerial, dtilt, everything). So once you see your opponent catching on to your retreats approach when they try to overshoot. You can do this by dadhing in the same direction twice. If you react fast enough you can get a grab.
When juggling anyone you want them to burn their options first so stay lower to the ground and let them fall into your short hop uair/ utilt. Mix it up though sometimes it's good to do full jump aerials at them. I'd say its a mix between doing full hop uair/ bair, sh uair, empty sh, utilt and run in to where they are landing and shield then grab. However think about these options and why they are good. If you full jump at them and hit them chances are next time they might try and jump out of the way so do a short hop to try and burn their jump. It's basically like a game of rock paper siccors except they are missing rock. Might get flamed for this stuff since I'm not sure I explained it very well.... Hope this makes sense.

I need some help with the Marth ditto. Basically, I know Marth can punish himself really hard for small mistakes. I don't have too many issues with the combo game once I get it going, but I don't know how to DI grabs, and I always seem to lose center stage.

I suck at most dittos, but I'm so bad at Marth dittos, I almost got JV 5 stocked by a guy who I can 2-3 stock easily as Fox :(

Can anyone list some fundemental things I can practice as Marth? I'm kinda stuck with a whole bunch of techskill with no idea what the right option is half the time. So I'm assuming learning some basics would be a step in the right direction.

Learn how to beat each and every move in the game with your hitboxes? That's kind of the fundamentals with Marth.

Also Shield dropping and the Hax stall on the ledge.

Yeah Bones is right, shielding is really a last resort. It's important to know your options out of it, but if you can afford not to shield at all, then please do.

Edit @CABC : Yeah he can, check out Kadano's thread on applying frame theory!

I have yet to learn it but it's doable, it's just learning an angle so it's nothing different from sweetspotting or whatever.

learn to do your advanced techniques perfectly and have them flow into one another. then combine them in 2-3 move strings. this is a lot of practice and really helps you understand the game.

Haxdash is pretty overrated if anyone looked at how frame-tight you have to be for Marth

It's a pretty slick mixup though since pretty much everything you can do from the ledge as Marth kinda sucks unless you're getting actual perfect wavelands onto stage

as long as the opponent doesn't seem like they're in range to hit me, ive been using haxdash as a substitute for drop>rehog since it seems a bit faster
