a true marth would talk about marth in a marth thread

GUYS

oh yeah and MM put up or shut up etc

I found that tech chasing from throws is easier if you actually somewhat delay your dash into the opponent after throwing them, especially if they're by the edge. tidbits

All you need is one downthrow and then they can already possibly be close to the ledge, it's pretty nice.. and then it's even easier to limit their options.

Its the only way...unless you're mango.
this physically pains me

CRAP marth thread WHY

uhhhhhh

we should talk about PPU's dash attack usage from the deep 2 and why it works and it's not blind dash attacking(usually)

that kid has some good movement ideas, aka he likes the WD back I forget to do LOL

what about delaying your dash makes the tech chase easier? makes it easier to not jump the gun? or does it provoke certain reactions from them? curious

also which matchfrom the deep 2 lol

Just a guess at what he's talking about, but if you delay your dash, then you're still in the initial dash when they hit the ground, so you retain the ability to dash back or do a pivot to react to their tech.

probly his 2 vs shroomed iirc he used it a lot then

delaying the dash is cool because you actually have time to grab/hit them if they tech in place(at low % any DI) and can dash back in if they roll towards you. By the time they can DI away+roll away to where you couldn't react to them you should be uthrowing them and getting a pretty easy edgeguard/kill out of it lol.

this is all made way easier if you do it by the edge too because then they can't even tech roll away as far so your dash towards them covers both options sometimes LOL

it also calms you down waayyyy more and you don't pointlessly spam tech skill and lose the ability to focus on the actual tech chase at hand.

last line is not legit and for scroobs but the other junk is cool

watching the deep 2 stuff now

that dash attack is really interesting. he always spaces it at the part where it "flicks" upwards and tries to catch shroomed when he wants to jump and set up. not sure if i'm misunderstanding but it looks like he's baiting shroomed to get hit by the dash attack by doing delayed fairs. delayed fair is bad if shroomed gets a little room to pill (cuz the pill bounces up), dash attack catches him when he attempts to do it, and so shroomed has to stick to trying to challenge PPU's sword or timing shield + dashes

"Common" opponents means players you've both played. You've both played PP recently (well... kind of recently), and he did alot better than you

Incidentally Axe is an opponent you share, and you absolutely out performed linguini vs. him, but imo not as much as linguini outperformed you vs. PP

You also have the win vs. Hax, which imo is hands down the most impressive win between the two of you, so i'll give you that. I doubt linguini could have done it

Linguini also has lots of ganons in FL to practice against, I don't know any besides you in Canada

I'm just surprised that you think you beating him in that mu is a sure thing, i mean its def possible, but not a given by any means
Evidence for Kage:

-has outperformed linguini at every tourney ever

-won the last time they played

Evidence for linguini:

Lost to PP but less badly than kage did

Clearly, the conclusion to draw here is that Linguini is superior in "just about every matchup"

Well if you want to put PP in the mix then I can just as well put Mango in too
No you can't son!!?!?!

wtf are you talking about lolol you beating mango was like three years ago

you clearly can't win this debate :awesome:

@battlecow the difference in their performance at recent tournaments is not signifigant, and many of kages wins are pure luck (Axe lmfao)

delayed fairs looks more like the mixup sometimes and the main strategy at other times. at any rate, the WD back and dash forward stalls tend to draw the opponent into wanting to take space and then PPU gets a hit or at least throws off the opponent's timing and can see what they will do when reacting to the strange movement. spaced dash attack is safer then and will catch anyone trying to come in or jump away. no one is really going to roll away or dash away at this point(usually) if he already has them in shield/pressured and keeps his distance.

This is my first time on this thread, so the question must be asked.

What is your favorite color, why, and what does that color remind you of?

Favorite color...as in favorite color marth or in general?

As for favorite color marth is black/blue...favorite color in general is red.
Black cause well, it just looks badass with the little gold trimming. Blue cause, of its subtlety.
also lol sorry PP.\

My favourite colour is blue, followed by green. They remind me of oceans, the sky, and fields of grass. They also remind me of my two favourite t-shirts when I was a little kid.

Favourite Marth colour is green, followed by black.

Black is my favorite. I occasionally play blue or red, but only if it matches my shield color (on that note, black with yellow shield is sexy). :D

pretty sure i made a long-winded post about this sometime several months ago, but....

i think marths should pay especially close attention to their opponent whenever they (the marth players) dash away

So what do you do when you dash away and a spacie decides it's a good time to jump in with nair ? I find myself to be stuck in these situations, especially when it's close to the edge.

I guess counter would be a good solution to reset the whole situation ?

PP I have a challenge for you. You are to gather your knowledge of playing marth and summarize the character into deep yet simple statements.

I have a feeling anyone else would comment on dash dash or swing your sword. But no, PP understands you cannot convey **** in a few words which are not sentences. He understands to properly convey **** you explain it in 10 sentences of 10-20 words each and must be done while intoxicated on powerade filled with 5 equal sweeter purchased from gas station while on the way to a late night physics lab.

I suppose optional conditions might be making sure the unit position vector positioned at your pituitary gland is facing in the direction directly between your eyes and sweeps an 180 degree arc multiple times as you write the sentences.

pivot grab, pivot nair, pivot (insert thing here), keep running and then dash cancel into an fsmash, wd away into ftilt behind you, counter would work sometimes. hell, even sh bair might work in a janky enough situation

running back at them will almost certainly get you hit... so just don't do that.

Weak Usmash to Fsmash can be a combo.. Or I have used it where they failed to tech in a similar way from Ganon's jab.. and then tipper happened. Hehe.

I just can't wait to show my way of using Marth. I hope I can bring something new to the table.

Baiting fox's nair is my number 1 goal from neutral. Space your DD and pivot grab. If you're losing the spacing game and his nair would over shoot a pivot grab, I usually do a rising back air early. Or go a little farther and dash cancle Fsmash back. Another thing I try to do but am not very good at (and am not sure how viable it really is) is dash back in just enough to mess up the spacing of their nair and CC.

^That sounds like you are relying way too much on the Fox being awful. I love when Marth turns his back on me and gives me free nair opportunities. Even if you CC, you can't really do anything because of shine.

I don't like this advice.

Dashing forward and grabbing them as they try to overextend is pretty fundamental. You can't dash away forever, especially in the situation Mahie detailed (closer to the edge).

Marth is pretty weak without room to dash back, especially against characters like Falcon or Fox, so in general, try to set up your dashdance with at least one WD length behind you from the edge. It makes overshoots considerably riskier; if you play in positions where they are worried about your preemptive attack on their approach, they won't try to force their way into your space.

Even if you CC, you can't really do anything because of shine.
Yes you can.

Marth's CC on nair is incredible. Its one of his main tools.

my favorite followup on weak usmash is dolphin slash
dsmash seems to work like everytime and you don't seem to ever need to hope they miss the tech like with fsmash
