I have a question regarding the C-stick. I have heard several arguments for and against the C-stick. "It's faster" "It's slower" "You suck if you use it" etc. I was just wondering if some of you would like to weigh in on your thoughts on the C-stick and why it's better or worse.

Someone punched me and I somehow wound up in 2005.

Do whatever is best for you. Using the c-stick can be nice as you can do a F-air while DIing back, etc.
Though sometimes you may want that extra DI forward by just hitting forward+A.
you can fast fall a lot easier with the C-stick imo, and you can NOT fast fall your dair a lot easier with the c stick as well.

No reason not to use it.

Let's put it this way. If you agree with the argument that indirectly claims that 'pressing a single button and a direction is harder than just pressing a direction', you're proooobably not good. Having an APM past 100 is probably common in competitive play. Past beginner play, no one is concerned with the difficulty of pressing two buttons versus pressing one.

There are techniques you can do with the Cstick that are hard to use without it, and some that are impossible. CC Dsmash, the scarjump knee, Dash canceled smashes, Shine bairs, Retreating fairs, the list goes on.

Plus all the cool kids use it.

C-Stick typically is slower, considering you have to take your thumb away from the main buttons. It's practically useless on the ground in most cases, but most people use the cstick for ariels.

When you're in the air, sometimes you'll want to DI in one direction, and attack in the other, for spacing purposes. The cstick does the ariel attack while allowing you to continuously DI, rather than changing your DI to attack.

People also use cstick for up airs or down airs to avoid double jumping or fast falling with the controls stick.

fun fact: everyone who says that if you use the c-stick means you're a noob, is a noob themselves, and incorrect.

The c-stick is for whatever makes your hand feel better for the situation. If you need to jump backwards and get maximum distance AND do a forward air, c-stick is your best bet.

Stuff like that.

there's nothing "cheap" about the c-stick its absolutely necessary for certain DI. tell your friends they're stupid. mention my name while your at it. And if you are physically incapable of charging a smash, there's something wrong with you. jk but no seriously

The types of people who lose games to mindless c-stick spam are not the types of people who should be lent any credence to their authority on this game. :3

I've heard some cases of smashers who allegedly don't use the c-stick but it's general pretty integral to higher-level gameplay.

Some of my closest friends, I have held back the most from Smash. Because I used to be a huge anti-C-stick elitist. That was my biggest mistake in gaming, ever.

Use the C-stick. Period. It's required for pro play, no doubt.

Anyone who claims the C-Stick is "cheap" is a scrub who doesn't qualify to give an opinion on competitive Melee yet. Once they get past the notion that the C-Stick can only be used for "instant" smashes, they will find that it is integral to high-level competitive play.

I personally don't use the C-stick very often at all. But there are times where I feel like it's a good option. I pretty much only use it for doing a Uair/Dair and fastfalling at the same time, CC smash attacks, and double stick teching.

I guess playing 1P mode so much kinda conditions me to not use it most of the time. Taj uses it even less than I do.

I kinda feel that it's not necessary for most techniques, but it can make a lot of things much easier. I guess I just like doing stuff the hard way lol.

Super Smash Bros. Melee for the Nintendo Gamecube does not care whether you use C-stick or not, so why should you or the people you play against?

No. You can use the fleshy part of your hand right near the metacarpals of your thumb if you have an issue with not being able to move your fingers that fast.

Also:

Aerial.

While on that topic, Sheik.

C-Stick should be banned from competitive Melee, just like Meta Knight.

Seriously, my friend chose C-Stick and wrecked my Fox the other day.

Isai uses the C-stick to do his neutral aerials.
True story.
I managed to do my 3 press neutral A ground combo in Brawl by smashing the Cstick forward before landing once. God knows how that worked.

C-stick is my favorite character. He wins all my matches for me
Clearly you've never faced Sargent Thumb. He smashes Captain Stick all over the place with the slightest trouble. Either that or you overlooked him due to his Pichuesque tendency to hurt himself while doing so :p.

Cstick is not slower in the slightest. Once you use it enough it's just another button. And it has plenty of uses on the ground:

Buffer rolls, spotdodges, jumps. Use to combo into smashes.

The rest is good though. Just don't underestimate how useful the c-stick is.

TL/DR:

The more you play the more useful C-stick becomes. The only time c-stick is luls is when everyone is noob because c-stick makes smashes (which most noobs spam) "easier".

CStick has the moves come out without any charge. It's pretty much a simple buffer. Cstick helps.

If you use C-Stick, you can move with the controller stick and attack in a different direction simultaneously. Even if you could press the direction for the only frame needed to register an attack, you still lose a frame, so frame-perfect with controller stick is still worse.

Definitely use it.
