The Brawl Information Compendium & Social
The aim of this thread is to provide all players with a centralized thread for:
  • General discussion pertaining to the current competitive Brawl metagame
  • A thread in which players may ask questions or advice pertaining to competitive play
  • An index of useful threads that players new and old a like may wish to reference
The goal of this thread is to reduce stickied thread clutter, encourage on topic posting in individual threads in the Brawl Competitive Discussion sub-forum and to further bring together the smash community by providing a general thread for it to discuss topics as it pleases without the need to justify an entirely new thread. All the global rules strictly apply! The following threads are a list of previously stickied and/or useful threads. It's an ongoing process to add all of these however. A majority to begin with will include a list of threads SamuraiPanda and Vyse collated.

My "theory craft meets mixup game" thread should be added to this. It basically explains common misconceptions people make when watching videos and theorizing in game scenarios.

Thanks.
Will do mate.

More people need to post up links and descriptions.

the input of a jump during the ending lag frames of another ability isnt it? for example input it around the end of an air dodge before you hit the ground. like you do with Luigi.

i might not be right.

as i said, i might not be right. i just said it off memory of what i think it is.

i know buffering with luigi usually has you doing an aerial, you air dodge after it so you hit the ground while doing it, but before you hit the ground you input your next moves. e.g. Dsmash or another short hopped aerial.

Practice makes perfect, seriously. Get some hands-on experience facing other people with Marth, read up, and watch vids. Get those tippers and learn how to set up for fsmash and junk.

As for that second one, same thing really. Practice doing it over and over until you have it down. It'll be locked in your head in no time.

How many frames does it take for shield to drop?
7 if I recall correctly.

Go into training mode, on Hyrule. There's that little thing that comes to the right of the pillar the right on the top platform. Spawn a green shell. Hit it against the little raised thing, and try to tipper all of your hits against it as it comes back to you. You can hit it with a pretty good number of moves I think. I haven't done it in a while so I'm not sure.

Also is there a better way to do a short hop with the button because sometimes i press it down to hard and it becomes a full hop
Just don't press it hard. Practice just tapping it in training a lot, and it'll become second nature.

How do you edgehog very fast? For some characters it seems very hard for me to do, like as DK. I run off the ledge and IMMEDIATELY hold back toward the ledge, and I grab the ledge if I'm lucky. But I watch vids of people who seemingly automatically snap to the ledge when they edgehog. What are they doing that I am not?

IMHO you should add some threads to the list :
this one,
this one,
this one (or that one)
and this one.
Will look at them later/when I'm not at Uni.

You need to fastfall by hitting diagonally AWAY from the ledge.

So, if you're edgehogging the right hand side, hit the bottom-right diagonal direction.

I tend to slide from holding the direction of the ledge, and rolling the stick to the direction I need.

After seeing the amount of people watching the EVO stream, I'm sure in terms of sheer competitive community, I think Street Fighter has us beat by a long shot.

Depends on what you mean by 'biggest', I guess.

Tons of people play Smash, and in literal terms, the community is probably the largest. From a purely competitive standpoint, probably SF. Tekken never really got super huge in comparison, though MLG is apparently including T6:BR in the 2010 circuit and not SF4 (likely because of SF4 balance issues and impending release of SSF4).

It's funny when I went to a huge Smash event where they held all sorts of fighting games. The crowd of Street Figther was nuts. They were much louder than us Smashers even though we had more people. @_@

Also Nanaki my good man, what do you mean by balance issues? I heard the game was fairly balanced.

Compared to Brawl, it's extremely balanced. Sagat is a bit too good in most people's opinions, though. No bad matchups, only evens with Akuma and Dhalsim (questionable). The best player I know of plays Rufus, though, strangely enough. Kind of like the best Tekken player I know of plays Lee even though he's mid-high tier.

Street Fighter events are freaking huge, they're just not as commonplace as Smash as far as I know.
