Actually there is risk, at least involving the HomeBrew Browser.

I'd just stick with the guide and not download any emulators the Browser has to offer. That COULD be risky.

Here's the details on the L Canceling code:

-Anytime, if you press R, it will start a timer that lasts exactly 7 frames.
-If you land(attacking) while that timer is active, for every frame of the landing animation, 1 will get added(doubling it)
-The moment you press R, it will start another timer for exactly 30 frames that will disallow you to use the R cancel again until it reaches 0
-If the game speed is modified at all, the timers will adjust accordingly

I tried to follow the specifications you guys set up and that was the result. I don't think I made any mistakes.

Oh, and I tested both codes again with IC, they seem to work fine(brawl and training) so maybe you have one of the older codes enabled as well?
Wouldn't that include B moves also?

The only Problem I have with the S-Cancel code is that it might give Snake too much of a boost. When you are low to the ground you can nair into a grab every time and his dair works pretty well too. If we go for zero lag Smooth Landings like in 64 there might be a similar problem with Snake. Other than that it works great even though I am not a fan of waiting for the shield to drop I can bear with it.
Don't worry about it, if you're going to play with S-cancel and WD, snake will face some trouble. He will only be able to air dodge once, and that's a killer, since you air dodge (or use an aerial or b move) to cancel the cypher.Even if you cancel the cypher with a grenade or an bair/uair, snake still has to recover high to be relatively safe, thus making it easy to punish him when he is going down, as he can airdodge only once. So, being able to only air dodge once would make snake's recovery a LOT more gimpable and maybe make up for the s-cancelled nair/dair or even bair.

You make some good points. thats what I hope it will turn out, and if something turns out broken we can just patch it like MMORPGs do.

Yeah. :] Being in control of our community is the biggest thing here. We can fix just about anything we want to.

Giving Snake lagless aerials isn't enough to make him broken, IMO. I mean; you think of Snake's power, the range on his tilts, and then you take away the lag and give him the ability to wavedash, and you want to go cry to your mother and tell her that your life is terrible because Snake can WD and LCancel, but. It's not bad when you play an actual match, as opposed to writing it down on paper.

Theorycraft is theorycraft.

Emulators as far as I know have no risk, either. Anything you can download with the Homebrew Browser is safe. Anything that would be put into the "apps" folder as far as I know is safe. What ISN'T safe is messing with .wad files and screwing with your Wii's system files. Now, you can download .wad managers and installers from the Homebrew Browser, but they are safe unless you actually USE them to install the *illegal* .wad files.

Just don't get into anything illegal and you'll be safe.

I find it funny how easy S canceling is. All you have to do is hold the L button down and have fun with sh aerials.
Im a little confused, is there an improved version on the true l cancel floating around somewhere?

well i know about two forms of l canceling but I hear the true one is not as good as S canceling. But from reading some posts it seems like there is an updated better version of the L cancel though I may be wrong which is why I am asking. S canceling is a good sub for now but I want to know if there has been any progress in having a true l cancel without shields and proper timings.

I ask this because there doesnt appear to be anything describing the true l cancel as vers 2 or something

EDIT: I see the difference in the timings and see why its a little harder. I hope it gets fixed like melee. I wish I knew what had to be done to fix it but it seems like a quick fix. I also think that atm a 64 style l cancel of lag is better in relation to the little hitstun for now. Either way, thanks for making this possible!

I agree. S-canceling seems to be better until a hitstun code is released. (: The extra speed makes up for the small time you would be allowed to follow up with combos. However, hitstun + S-canceling would be ridiculous. SSB64 all over again.

A lot of people will want to use that one until we get hitstun. Some characters need their horizontal jump speed increased too. *cough*Falcon*cough*

OMG I just had the most AMAZING matches today with my friend with S-Canceling. Holy hell, the game feels so much more combo filled!

DK is a BEAST with this, he can do WOP of Bairs, seriously! Double Bair, S-Cancel, jump again repeat the double Bair. And Ike's Dair is too good... Link becomes EXTRA good with this shiz.

I will try to get vids of our best matches because OMG, this + WD'ing = epic win.

Sounds cool, you wanna play a few matches later? PM me if you do. I have a 0 to 40% combo with Ike.

Hearing about people's success is getting me really excited. *__*

Edit: I'm up for some matches later if you guys wanna play. I have Falco400 registered already. Is it possible to have 3 people playing, but rotate so only 2 people are playing? I'm not familiar with the online features.

Ganon is also much faster. I feel as if Pit has gotten slower :(
IMO i feel that regardless of the further hacks like hitstun, Brawl needs 64 style L cancel as far as activation. The timing should be closer to the ground and you cant "miss" an l cancel by pressing it early. (was that even possible to miss an l cancel in melee because you pressed it too early similar to teching?) My reason is because brawl is similar to 64 as far as when you hit someone, the game slows down significantly which can throw your timing off even if you are expecting it.

However, hitstun + S-canceling would be ridiculous. SSB64 all over again.
i wouldnt mind ;) at least it will be a better version with better defensive game!

ok didnt know that. My l canceling must have been spot on...or I thought something else caused me to miss. Im torn between the two. S canceling would be perfect if you couldnt buffer s cancels by holding down the shield and also if it reset all lag from all aerials to like 2 frames of recovery instead of the shield popping up.

The "true" l cancel has a weird timing like you cant be early or late before hitting the ground (XXXXLcancelXXXGround) and atm the lag isnt reduced enough for the amt of hitstun. I guess I lean towards S cancel for now.

I prefer the other L-cancelling code. The timing is a little different than Melee, but it still feels more natural than S-cancelling does.
