Just got 'em and boy do they S U C K! Feels like tiny monkeys are whittling away at my gums with tiny chainsaws. I feel like such a dweeb wearing them, especially cause i'm 17 and just now getting them. Meh, with any luck they'll be out in a year. Strange enough I think that girls like a man with a metal mouth o.O

I heard something from my humanities professor today. Well actually professorS. Nothing is amazing. Seriously? I think that many things can be categorized as amazing! Friends, the concept of reincarnation, Killtaculars on M.L.G. Halo 3. Sometimes it's the only way to describe something! Help me out, post what you think is amazing (and gimme some good ones) so I can tell my teacher that not only I disagree with him.

By the way, when you do get them off, listen to the orthodontist and wear your retainer. I know some people who didn't. Guess what happened to their teeth.

And amazing things? Are you sure he didn't mean anything deeper then that? Because by just saying "Nothing's amazing.", it's saying that nothing can create a big surprise or sudden wonder. So basically anything that can surprise you can be called amazing. Going by a dictionary definition by the way.

I have braces as well.

I remember the first few days that I had them... They were extreeemely irritating!
And now I actually have an orthodontist appointment tomorrow in order to take out the front wire and input a new one.

It just makes you want to rip them out, doesn't it? Well, maybe not, but get rid of them at least.

I have mine for the next year and a half, what about you?

Listen to this man. I have a friend who had braces for a few years in high school. She's a senior in college, and she just got braces put back on because her teeth shifted. I think her wisdom teeth screwed things up a bit, but wear a retainer. I've been wearing mine about 2 of every 3 nights (probably more often) since I got my braces off 6 1/2 years ago.

Holy... 6 1/2 years ago? I just felt really, really old, and I didn't like it. Getting older isn't nearly as fun as it used to be.

Wow 17, and I thought I was late,

I'm 16 and only got them in this year. They feel weird at first but after a month you barely notice them, until you eat rice and they manage to get stuck in every place under the wires.

The good thing is I didn't have to take any teeth out. *phew*

I've had em since 6th grade and I'm now in High School. I should be getting them off soon though. Whenever they tighten them your teeth might hurt for 2 or 3 days. Hopefully you won't get giant springs in your mouth like me

I got braces when I was...eleven. I'm eighteen now, and I still have the bottom teeth braces. >.> My parents did NOT get with the program after we moved to find a dentist, which was extremely aggravating. I won't complain now though, because I got the top ones off, and they are absolutely sexy.

I got a keychain caught in my braces when I was a kid, don't ask. -_- But anyways I panicked and ripped the whole set of brackets off on the bottom tryin to get the keychain off. Had to go in the next day to get them replaced lol.

I hope you start to get used to yours so they feel a bit better.

Hey man, they aren't so bad. Just a little pain for the first few days. I have a question though. Does you orthodontist do the SureSmile thing? It allows for your braces to come off sooner if you do things properly, but it also requires you to wear these computer bent wires after a certain amount of time has passed. Those hurt worse than the normal wires, and I just got mine in. Still, all you have to do is grin and bear it, and relish the idea that you'll be done with them sooner than people with normal wires. Of course, eating food can be a pain in the neck, but eh....you get nice teeth.

My braces never hurt, I had them for only a year as well. So many people get braces now that I wouldn't call anyone a dweeb for having them ever. Just have fun with it, I didn't follow any of the rules (I ate popcorn, gum, anything I wanted) and my teeth turned out fine, get a cool color and show it off. =D

They're not hot, but they're cute. I find it fairly attractive when a cute looking girl (Not hot girls, they look silly with braces, CUTE girls) has braces. It ups the cuteness. BUT ONLY WHEN THEY KEEP THEM CLEAN. God can only imagine my disgust of a girl with dirty braces. >:O

I'll be honest with you; if your orthodontist is anything like mine was, he/she is most likely lying and/or going to change his/her mind. I went for an initial evaluation and mine said that I didn't need them, but to come back in 6 months and they would make sure.

"You'd be surprised how much can change in 6 months" seemed to be a popular line at the next visit...so I got my braces in 5th grade, with the given likelihood of getting them off in 2 years.

I didn't get them off until my Freshman year of High School, shortly after which I got a standard temporary retainer and a permanent one on the bottom in the back. After telling me about 5 times that it would be my last visit, I finally got the permanent one off (and was told I didn't need to wear the temporary one any more) the day before the start of my Junior year of High School.

Also. The foods you "can't eat" are basically a conspiracy. I cannot tell you how many times I chewed gum or ate some non-allowed food, and there was never a problem. The only problem I ever experienced was when I chewed gum when I still wore the temporary retainer all day, but that just got the retainer hella disgusting and took intensive cleaning on my part. Nothing broke.

tl;dr : Braces are a mindgame and they should feel like a mindgame.

yeah, i remembered braces. i just got mine off a few months ago. i didnt really have them on for that long either. I only had them the first 2 years of high school. Honestly, the worst part for me was those spacers before the actual braces. Sure, at first braces really hurt my teeth, but after a few days, my teeth felt normal. braces werent all that bad for me. i didnt really mind them. i mean, i wanted them off, but i didnt complain everyday that i had braces. i just accepted the fact that i would have to wear braces for a while.

Tip: when/if you have to wear rubber bands, wear them, always! i did, and i got mine off like a half year earlier then i was suppose to.

and really, the only foods you absolutely cannot eat are corn on the cob, and cotton candy. i still chewed gum and had caramel constantly.
