Beware of F-airing defensively against Sheik and Metaknight

I basically verified what I had already posted about the lag time of a falling f-air this weekend. They are done the safest at mid-range against these characters where they can't make it to you in time. Otherwise, both of their 'dart-like' dash attacks are fast enough to tag you when you land with an f-air. Maverick Ace (Kadaj) can vouch for this because he fought my Sheik. Mew2king should also be able to vouch for this because he abuses it as well.

This was true in Melee. The key is to make them think they can dart in so you can get an easy punish. It's all spacing.

Anyway, did the MK discussion on the other thread help you out at all in the tourney this weekend?

Also Marth > Sheik in Brawl.

Yeah, it did. You guys encouraged camping heavily and I spent the entire week figuring out ways to put myself in advantageous positions without being vulnerable.

I also agree Marth > Sheik in brawl, but oddly enough you have to play against her similar to Metaknight because of her dart in game.

rofl

Thanks guys, Marth represent

Which characters did you lose too? I think we should do those characters next in the weekly discussion thread.

And I'm glad all our strats helped you. Good to know that the Marth community knows it's strategies.

I lost to m2k's metaknight 2-0 but the last game was last stock last hit

then we split the top 4 i didnt do my losers match with chillin

I had some trouble with some falcos in pools because I haven't played that much/that style often but once I figured it out it was no trouble at all. Also there was DDD who chain grabbed flawlessly on FD that beat me once, but after I figured out his style that wasn't a problem either. The main problem all day was Metaknight because it was Metaknight but besides that, Marth soundly beats most of the cast except the top tier 3.

ALMOST FORGOT

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL MARTH'S: Counterpick Norfair against DDD, he is completely defenseless against you there. He can not chain grab for long, he is a huge target, there are several platforms to you to capitalize on his massive size AND your extreme advantage below opponents, and he is far too slow to take advantage of the multi-platform stage. I destroyed an NYC DDD here 2 stock 0% who counterpicked me in the last match. It's just extremely advantageous for Marth.

Awesome stuff Neo. Good to see the information helped. I'll make sure to send you an IM later.

Also, Marth is God on Nofair against anyone that cannot fly properly.

Also, Inui should not be included in the Marth players placement along with the other Marths. It isn't fair to dedicated Marth players who go Marth the entire tournament that someone who uses Marth against people who suck, but mainly goes Snake because "Marth is too much work" (his exact words) is placed among them. Inui used Snake in pools yesterday and barely made it out getting 3rd seed. Using Marth randomly in matches when Snake is actually the one advancing you through the tournament is NOT winning with marth

Wow, everyone seems to be hating on Inui all around. My bro fought him, and said he's a better Marth than me. Since I'm the best Marth I've ever seen in person (I don't say this to suggest that I'm the best Marth ever, I just main Marth and am pretty good, and better than anyone I've watched/fought with Marth.)

I attend a few tournement, and just haven't placed extraordinary due to Metaknight. Now that I've studied how to deal with him, I might fare a little better. I've never had a problem with Snake.

That being said, if Inui is a better Marth than me so much that my bro adamantly declares it, I think he deserves some credit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Anyway, before I get too far off topic, I was gonna suggest that you could always just master ISJRing, and you'd have no landing lag on your Fairs (ROFL)
Inui is just elitist and does nothing with his time BUT play smash. He's good, though, I'll give him that
Anyways, we really need a clean cut strategy on how to beat MK and Snake, cause I'm to the point where I'm just gonna pick a secondary or two and use them to beat the two god Tier pricks.
^Marth handles Snake just fine. I usually play metaknight when I'm competing, but when I run into a Snake, I use Marth instead. That match up doesn't seem too impossible to me. Metaknight, on the other hand, will never lose to Marth. He ***** Marth in every way.
Is that why NEO beat the second best MK player on the East Coast just the other night?
Please gtfo with this stupidness ok.
Also someone who has been playing Marth for less then a month has no right to judge his match-ups.
err? Lightin up, EL. I didn't seriously mean Marth can't win (Roy_r does it all the time). Obviously the math player can win if he's skilled enough, but there's no denying that metaknight's a bad match up for Marth. Even you have acknowleged this.
Ok. But don't say MK ***** Marth. Cuz it's false.
A **** match-up is like 8/2 or worse.
This is only 6/4 which is perfectly doable.
Why do you even care lol?
You don't main Marth according to your own words.
I care because I wanna switch my main to Marth. He's a very stylish character when played with a high level of skill. A good Marth player will always look better than even the best MetaKnight player. Another thing that appeals to me is how difficult his learning curve is. He is not by any means noob friendly. I like that! That's why I posted that vid of Marth. I want to see if I have the right play style if him. If I do, I'm going to take him to next level and try to master him altogether.
So . . . supposedly everyone just doesn't like him because, like the rest of Montage, he thinks he's better than everyone else?
Understandable. I've seen, but not actually spoken to the guy.
It's only because there is no need to allow the spread of misinformation throughout the boards. The ignorance on Smashboards is already bad enough I believe. I can vouch for that as there are some things not even I know but are quite obvious to older-heads on this message board.
Blistering Speed: Grandmaster once said that MK destroys Marth and then went on to say he had only used Marth for a few weeks. So what exactly am I supposed to say to something like that?
Whoa, dude. I've won plenty of tournaments going either all or mostly Marth. I used Marth a lot just yesterday in a tournament. I just decided to use Snake in MD/VA for practice. I still actually main Marth, but I'm not dumb enough to lock myself to one character.
sorry inui lol u cant just go probably the biggest brawl tourney to date and practice with snake. We both agree its easier to win with snake. I just use marth because i have a funnier time fuking with peoples heads using him. Think its funny how neo ***** so hard when he rarely plays brawl with people. He told me most of his training b4 ch 3 was with level 9 metaknight LOL.
No one here is stupid Inui.
But we play for our honor as Marth mains and for Marth himself as well.
You play to win. So go play to win and use Snake. But don't call yourself a Marth main.
I know you personally and we both know that you won't hesitate to use Snake. So just make him your main. We both know you will after a few more months anyway. lolz.
No, I'm keeping Marth as my main. He is a lot more fun than Snake and I like Fire Emblem too much.
Meep, why NOT use a big event to practice another character? Just because I play multiple characters and try to avoid Marth's terrible matches doesn't mean I don't main him. That's like saying Lord Knight doesn't main Marth in Melee because he uses Fox for Sheik and gay stages.
well that and playing m2k a few times. If you master how to outspace metaknight the match up is a crap load easier rather than going blind into it.
to inui: I dont think ive seen u play marth once that entire tourney.
Staying ontopic to this post. Im starting to believe fast falling fair is really unsafe period to do now. Its real easy for somone to just walk up and powershield it and do as they please.
I used him in pools a few times, a few teams matches, and against LK in the bracket.
Just because I "ditched" Marth for one event does not mean I don't main him.
Just for you and NEO, I promise to go mostly Marth next time. :)
lvl 9 isnt bad to practice on. Just dont edge guard it as it has almost the same predictable way of recovering otherwise they rarely have any bad habits if u try to fight them normally. its crucial to practice spacing with marth as he is possibly the most safest character to play in close quarters.
