I agree with this. If you get the first hit in, get the damage, and finish the combo. It's really not worth it to do the first hit then grab, IMO. It's usually not going to give you as much damage and it won't always give you many options for a follow up combo. If you just finish the DB, you'll probably get more damage in and it's much safer. First hit of DB -> grab is pretty predictable and sometimes hard to pull off. Personal opinion, though.
DB1 to grab is quite useless ate higher percents or if you suck at grab games. But at lower % it can be quite good. If you know what your opponents reaction will be, you can get in a free hit, or another grab. Also onsome characters like MK you can DB1 to grab to Fsmash, which does more damage then finishing the combo. Use it sparingly, but don't ignore it, it can be a good technique that messes with your opponent.
DB1 to SB is sex as well.

Jab has awesome priority.
However...
Dancing Blade has TRANSCENDED priority.

Jab has better vertical range (actually it's quite superb).
Tipper'd jab has great hitstun and doesn't send opponent's far (WIN WIN).

Jab also trips opponents from 120-145%. Into magical love like fsmashes.

Jab is win. It just sucks that its soooo under rated by others.

I don't use it enough because I feel like DB is more reliable most of the time. It's good to stop aerial attacks and such, but then I get smacked in the face or grabbed because the hit stun and knockback isn't very far. I'm trying to incorporate it into my game a bit more.

How do I stop from getting shield grabbed by DK?
Space with retreating fairs/dtilt.

And shieldbreak his *** if he gets predictable with it. I used to have this problem a lot, but if you shieldbreak them once they get scared every time you play them after that, rofl

Opponents often roll behind me within grab range.
Is a DB/attack better than a grab in this situation?
I usually have trouble getting the grab. Not sure why.
Depends. Do you want to refresh your moves, and they're not quite in killing percent yet? Go for a grab and pummel. Are they at killing percents? Go for a kill move if you know it will hit. Are you not that far into the game/stock? Dancing Blade is probably your best option.

Overall, Dancing Blade is the staple, though

Thanks.

One thing I don't get is:
When do you use moves like DS/jab[?] to get the opponent away from you?
When they're being aggressive/combo-ing? Or does it have to do with proper spacing?
Or both?

Use dolphin slash to punish your opponent when they mess up their spacing. Its also good to use when someone hits your shield with a multi hit move.

Jab is used to hit your opponent when they use aerials and its a good mixup on the ground.

Dolphin slash is good as a ko move (punisher). It can also be used defensively but I would just wait until it can ko and use it once, if your not comfortable using it a lot.

Jab is offensive or defensive depending on what your opponent is doing.

why didn't the creators raise a red flag when they realized this game has so little hitstun that half of your attacks can be counter attacked after you hit.

Lol that would happen if one of three things:

1. Your follow up is predictable/sucks.
2. You don't follow up.
3. Your smash is very, very stale.

1. You the same move after another move.
2. You are an idiot.
3. You spam.

^These are things not to do.^

Remember: Mix it up, be wise, and keep things fresh.

Is there anyone here who regularly helps Marth players record replays who also has the no-trip code? I contacted a few people, but I didn't realize that the codes would desynch the replay if they were played on a code-free wii. So they couldn't record them for me.

Does anyone do things like this regularly? Or is anyone free to help?

Edit: It turns out he did have the codes. Problem solved, I think. =)

1. Pretty much anything you want, Aerial OoS, UpB OoS, Smash OoS.
2. It gives you a large range o f options and a great mixup game.
3. Ok there's different categories:

Punisher (large) - DS
Punisher (small) - DB
Punisher (aerial) - Jab

And that's the best, but don't get predictable!

Lmao yes, indeed, but I gave him the general. If you think you can time it right and incoporate it into your game, use Usmash OoS.

If your opponent is being predictable, read him and counter when you should.

Use grabs and stay on some defensive game.

if he spams, work around it and use the spam against him. GW should not be able to grab you so easily if you space your attacks well. Follow up whiffs with another, faster attack to swat him away as he rushes in to counter. Use your own grabs if he camps shield. Use your shorthop to get over his dtilt spams. doesn't marth's fsmash outrange that thing anyway?

Stay a good distance away and use the right moves, this way he can't grab you.
Also, can't just fair when he dtilts?

I don't know much about playing G&W tbh.

It's...kinda like trying to tip all your hits. I guess you could go for tippers all the time if you wanted to.
Eh.
Basically you wanna hit, but not get hit.
You gotta use Marth's range to your advantage
You can be "all up in their face", but you need to make sure you're not THAT close so that they can't retaliate.

If your fair is being shield-grabbed, you need to be much farther away, if you're still getting grabbed, do retreating fairs. If you're in the air, his dtilt is useless. Like someone said above, fair>G&W.

Also, your grabs out-range his, so, if you are auto-canceling your fair/uair/nairs you should be able to grab him before he grabs you.
