people should read?

is it posible to just pay the venue and attend for friendlies only and not compete in the tournie? cuz i dont got $75 to spend on my first big tournament

just to be even more clear,

no matter if you get your own hotel, want to just enter singles etc. You still have to pay the full amount. We arent going to take exceptions. Lets say you pay the full amount but do not show up on days 2 or 3, you still wont get your refund. No REFUNDS what so ever. Let's say you dont show up but want your friend to take your place. Thats not going to happen, because thats like saying i dont want to show but ill let Ken take my place. Its unfair for other players. People should understand if your paying to enter, expect to play, dont expect to get a refund because of other reasons like saying there are too many good players and im wasting 75 bucks even though i won't win. Your paying 75 bucks for a chance at winning the grand pot, the experience, and the fun, what more can you ask.

You might ask why, the entire thing is a hassle with a lot of us staff having to do other stuff. We dont want everyone just comming to enter one event this is a major event. You pay one price for everything. Its pretty cheap to if you consider food for 3 days, housing at the venue, and to be able to enter all the tournaments. Your benefitting.

Why?
1) you get housing meaning you dont have to pay for a hotel , which is much more expensive then 75.
2) food for 3 days is already half what your paying to enter.
3) and to enter all the events thats 60 bucks alone if you consider 20 bucks a tournament or 15, whatever.

lets be reasonable this is how the hard facts break down to

day 1 = 25 bucks what do you get
20 bucks worth of food, venue, and tournament entry
day 2 = 25 bucks and u get the same
day 3 = 25 and the same

if you know tournaments like i do, mlg is 40 bucks to enter for 2 events and you do not get food unless your PRO top 8. Here were offering everything for 75, be happy and gracious especially if your living in california. Lots of people have to fly here. Hope that clears things up.

I also want to mention one more time.

Spectators fee is 45 bucks : spectators cannot play , but can get food for 3 days. Spectators cannot stay at the venue. Hence spectator you come to watch or cheer on your love ones.

So ill break this down also.
day 1 = 15 bucks
food and watching smash for all day
day 2 = 15 bucks and same
day 3 = same

Its well worth it to be a spectator. I also want to mention we will make a designated area for people playing in the tournament to play friendlies, spectators cannot play friendlies either. Thats why you might as well enter the tournament if you want to play because its fun and thats what its all about.

Nope its 75 or nothing. This is a major tournament. 75 bucks is already cheap for a tournament of this calibur.

hmm

whats the prize money for first, second, and third place for singles, teams, and crew.
nothings sure yet, we have to calculate our losses first to hold this event.

Losses being food, rental, car rentals and lots of other fees and trust me there are a lot. And without lots of donations this year it seems were on our own on this as well. Last year for oc2 knight damien donated 1000, and other pros donated around 700 total to help out with the late cost fees and food fees. The venue was expensive and we rented 3 huge mini vans or something like that. This year you can expect the costs to double because of high gas prices and cali living expenses which includes high food cost etc. Plus you can sleep at the venue and you can thank arash and ken for that they put out a lot of their own money to make that possible.
Afterwards we can definitely be sure of prizes.

right now all i am 80 percent sure is first place singles will bring home a trophy and something around 1200 bucks.

while we're unsure of what the prize money will be, it'll definitely be more than last year, which was $1200 for first, then 600 and 300 and etc etc

though i'm sure the more people donate, the bigger the prize pot can get:)

as far as vegetarian (and vegan) food goes, we'll make sure you all get fed well

ill say this now so people understand

Question, are we allowed to bring cameras to the event and record?
NO CAMCORDERS OF ANY SENSE ALLOWED INSIDE THE VENUE. If you want to record this event of you having fun while your in cali do it outside of the gaming area. No warnings of any sense. Just know if you try it and get caught I will personally escort you out without a refund. On the day of the event when we do sign ups I will mention this once again when your registering to ensure people that they know about this. So they dont lie about not knowing about it. This is crucial for us this year especially.

People who do not attend this event will miss out and thats their problem. I will allow pictures, but if people use video capturing to get match footage they will be escorted out without a refund and we are that serious.

If we catch people trying to record they will be kicked out of the venue, and all their matches will be forfeit.

Why do you ask we are so harsh? Simple there will be dvds made after this event. The footage that we get will be valuable and if people want to experience that they can buy the dvds just like OC2. These sales will help us out with either the money lost for getting the japanese here or the venue cost.

Since nobody in this community wants to help with donations we are under the gun this year with less donations than oc2. Ive constantly asked and been ridiculed and apparently nobody cares except for themselves with the exception with a few who has donated. Atleast from dvd sales we can in return make back our loss, believe it or not. 3 months prior to this event ive been trying to find methods of getting donations in advance and all has failed. Currently i believe with all the donations gathered till the day of the event its going to be under 900 bucks, which doesnt even cover bombsoldiers ticket. Even though the community doesn't care about the japanese its them that make the oc even more special and expanding this game further over seas making it grow. If people dont understand this thats how it is. If you dont care for the japanese thats how it is. However, were going to help them get here and were going to need help from the dvds to do so or donations. I'm tired of all the excuses of why people do not want to donate, so i gave up trying to ask. Ill take what i can. I know for a fact because of this we lost many great pros who were going to show but lacked the money. Just my 2 cents.

hope this answers your question, not to be mean or anything in my post. Just how its going to work.

people should thank arash for the rides. he does that the most and hes a big part to this staff.

However, when it comes to food, you should tip your hats off to my sister. Shes the one whos bringing all the vegens what they want. Lettuce.

I wanted to add food this year is going to be awesome. I think were doing Barbeque hawaiian style for all the smashers. The only complaint were probably only get for food is from the hawaiians comming. They are going to say "**** this is hawaiian food, doesnt taste anything like the stuff we eat in hawaii." We going all out =). You wont get nasty hot dogs ill assure you of that.

If there's a Chipotle Mexican Grill nearby, I'm all for this.

I'll probably end up going if there's not one anyway ;)

No worries Manacloud. I'm sure you'll do us "Hawaiians" justice. lolz Either way, you and the rest of the staff are doing all of the work with the buying and preparing of the food. I organize pretty much all of the smashfests on Hawaii and I understand how much of a hassle feeding everyone is. I lose an average of 20-40 dollars per fest. T_T So I really appreciate the fact that we are gonna be fed everyday. I don't mind if it's Hawaiian, Japanese, American, Mexican or whatever! Either way I'll eat pretty much anything. Except for the vegetarian stuff....I needz my MEAT! XD

ive mentioned this many times, if you donate the money is going to the japanese or the venue. meaning your money will still go back to you because your getting free housing at the venue which is extra pay on our part. Not to mention electricity/air conditioning. Your money is going towards a good deed. If we went through all this trouble of bringing the people of the smash community oc3 why would we try to rip them off and take their donations for ourselves? Weve spent lots of money already on the venue and extra just to let people sleep there and weve spent our own money on the japanese tickets. The least people could do is help out with donations.

I would also like to take a moment to remind everyone that in order for the tournament to run smoothly, we need Tv's, Cubes, vcr's, chairs, tables, exc. This is crucial! As Mana has already said, we want a "Friendles Zone" where there is no tourney play, only friendlies... but that is only possible if we have tv's and stuff! You can help by going to This Thread or by PMing myself, mana, ken, or arash if you can bring something to contribute to OC3. Anything will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

good question drephen,

I believe that we get the venue thursday night. Not 100 percent sure but ill ask ken. Thats the night were going to set up the venue so it will be ready friday. Im not sure if we are letting people stay there but things like this usually happen and we end up letting people stay over anyways. As for sunday night I think we get till before monday morning to clear out the warehouse of our stuff so I dont know if we are going to let people sleep over there but we will see.

Nothing is 100 percent sure and if your planning to stay anyways I say ask someone from so cal. I know a lot of people are planning to make evo west so its better to find someone from so cal willing to house you in advance before and after the event. So cal has around 150 smashers im sure someone can house someone. This is the time to ask I think.

As for the bbq everyone get ready i think its actually happening this year. I hope everyone likes ribeye.

That's cause Hawaiians go make any kine. XD

I wonder what the parking situation will be for the venue. I can't wait to see the actual daily schedule with all the times and stuff. Getting more and more excited.

New Mexico!? Holy shnap! I was just there in March! lolz If it is in New Mexico I know where to find a hotel. = w = (Assuming that it is indeed in New Mexico)

Edit: I just read Simnas question below and that is an excellent one. I would love to take home some friendly matches against pro player. I mean I'll probably get beat bad but it's the experience and fun factor. I'm not gonna ask that they go on the DVD or anything, but just for a keepsake?

rofl, santa fe SPRINGS, which is indeed in socal, but tbh i've never heard of it myself until 3 months ago

we will have a grill this time, so korean bbq isn't out of the question:)

housing will go through to sunday as well, the thing is we need to clear the venue by like 6AM monday so it'll be plenty of time to sort things out and get people where they need to be

and @ simna, assuming we get like 10-15 VCRs, we could have a request list of sorts where if it's not like the final 10 matches you can still get your match on tape... i'm open to ideas on this one

a month and a half left by the way!
