Shaya comes from Yeshua which is one Hebrew spelling for Joshua, which was Jesus' real name. Blame the greeks for being bad at transliteration.

The name means to rescue/to deliver.

Indeed, although the original hebrewan name of Jesus / Joshua is "Yehosua" [pronounced as Yehoshua] but the prefix "Yeho" [which means "god" -> Yahweh] is often shortened into "Yo" ... typically it becomes "Jo" in germanic languages [Yehoseph becomes "Joseph" in english and german, Yo'chanan becomes "Johannes" in german and "John" in english et cetera] and "Yu" in arabian [Jesus / Joshua becomes "Yusua", Jospeh becomes "Yusuff" et cetera].

Jesus actual name was Yehosua ben Yoseph ... and "Yehoshua" means "god is savior" ... if you leave the "Yeho-" prefix out you have "-shua" and you took "Shaya" from that. Clever ^_^
