A lot of Smash characters were added due to requests from their creators - I wonder what would happen if a game dev or CEO with connections to Sakurai (specifically one who isn't repped in Smash already) asked for a character they didn't create or own? Like if Toby Fox said "don't put in a Sans costume, put in a Kumatora costume instead" during his visit to Sakurai's for example. Would Sakurai/Nintendo try to persuade (or even blackmail) them into allowing their own character? Would they completely ignore the request? Would they openly say that the character/costume was chosen by that person when they get in?

I think a TV adaptation of Smash would need to be a comedy - whether it'd be an action-comedy or just a full on sitcom I don't know, but these characters were never meant to go together so there's really no option but to play off of that awkward unfamiliarity the characters would have to one another's tones and customs.

As somebody from Britain, I can say that if Nintendo wanted a Smash pick to appeal to Bri'ish audiences, (like Terry does to Latinos, Banjo does to yanks, and everyone else does for Japan) Crash Bandicoot is the ideal choice - though some kind of microcomputer rep (be it a fighter, stage, whatever) would also draw a lot of attention here too.
